There is player with nickname (just an example) "Mynicknameisverylong". This player is inactive since rebalance. Then someone else decide to create account with that nick (that player is inactive, so the nick is free). So new account named "Mynicknameisverylong". The old inactive account should be renamed to "r_Mynicknameisverylong", but there is problem, nickname cannot be longer than 20 letters, while "r_Mynicknameisverylong" has 22. I hope you understand now :)

I have a question. There is max length of nick: 20. So what if someone decides to take such a long nickname, already used by another player. What will be the old, inactive player renamed to? (Obviously the "add prefix r_" or numbers doesn't work, as the nick can't be longer) I'm pretty interested :ph34r:

This is a sad state of the game where a players past gets erased, as in the case of Almighty010 losing the nickname, getting removed for friend lists, and all of his posts in forum linked from his profile like he never existed.

• Once a nickname is changed due to inactivity, it is not removed from the Friends' lists of other users, the same thing happen when you change your nickname manually
• Users' posts are forever linked to their profiles, no matter of their nicknames' change

First English Community Manager "Bruce Lunga's" screen namehas been renamed to @r_almighty010.

Extremely disappointed to witness this!

We are all aware (at least oldest users and Helpers like me) who Bruce was, but there are specific reasons for him not getting the Medal of Merit, it is not given as easily as you may think :)

 

Anyways, he is an user now, so if he went inactive like anyone could, another user had the right to claim his nickname :)

*His contribution to tanki  was immense, he pioneered or helped  to develop successful features like VLog (Almighty01 version) = V-Log (Semyon Kirov version) and Tanki newspaper, He was the one who came up with now famous phrase "Hello Tankers" (Semyon used this phrase in all of  of his V-Logs) ... I am not going to get into an argument with you on whether he deserves a "Medal of Merit" or not, but in my mind History makes us who we are and tanki has decided to ~( two words - self censored)~ history as they wish, so who am I to tell them what to do!? ;)

I'm sorry for the outburst, I couldn't believe someone would, or could take Bruce's name in game. I looked through my friends list and didn't see his name there anymore and followed by checking forum, and saw the vandalism of his nickname, I would also point out that the forum has time and time again purposefully made viewing users historical topics and posts very difficult to find. 

I'll take leave of this forum again... I forgot why I left this so called community.

Have fun with your target audience of 12-18 yr olds.

At your rank you have to play within 160 days.  Perhaps if you talk privately to Cedric Debono and clearly, factually and politely plead you case.  State what you problem is.  I can not promise he can do anything but he may be sympathetic if someone has a genuine problem.  If it is a case of not having a PC because it is broken, perhaps even if you could just log on and play a game or two with a friends or family PC with in the time frame. Remember to clear the memory of your log in details if you cannot implicitly trust the owner, maybe do it anyway. Then that might get you through until you can do something to improve your situation.

 

The other thing to have a think about, is the nick name that important to you?  Would having and r prefix attached to your nickname be that bad?  If Tanki is for you, why not sign up and purchase something useful because that would give you 3 years grace.  Any way good luck with your endevers.

The saving grace for any purchaser is the 3 year safety net.  Anyone with planned long term absence would be best advised to make at leaste one purchase before going on a Long Trip, University or Military Service.

Two wrongs don't make it correct.

 

For like-minded people, who disagree with what tanki had done, your idea only make it worse, not only we lost an obvious right we entitled to, but also with your suggestion  players might be encouraged to pay, to keep their screen names.

 

Tanki devs are acting like a bunch of old soviet peopel who doesn't understand a thing in the new world they are living in and your innocent suggestion might encourage not only minors among us but also Devs to ignore moral conduct.

I have discussed the morality of the situation concerning nicknames earlier.  We have passed that.  Here, I am offering suggestions to people, that are concerned about their particular situation because I like to help people.  Tanki are very unlikely to rescind this nickname plan of theirs because they have shown no evidence of ever rescinding any changes that they have made, no matter what the morality or number of protests. If someone can take a legal view and put it into action, then that might be different.  That is unlikely to happen but not impossible.  My view is that one has to make the best of things or be for ever moaning and gowning about things that we can not change. That is not helpful or healthy.   I have a pragmatic view on this.

guys remember tanki is a game company ..

 

if you go to any company with games most or all have started to go this way ..this is the way of the future ..to pay for games its no different if you went to a store and bought a game.. its the same, almost the only thing is that in the computer world you don't fully own it ...like if it was from the store.

 

.if you go to steam ..you will see how they sell games for you to buy and use freely but you never own the game ..
