An Intelligent Approach to Tackle LAGS!

Hello Tankers!
Recently I was asked with an interesting question, 'Which element of Tanki Online do you detest the most?'
and my answer to this was 'Oh those NOOB Hy6 buyers below my rank who have OP M3 kits and drug nonstop and raid my battles!' 'LAGS!!'

Therefore I tried to investigate and analyze how and why do lags occur instead of hurling pointless insults at Tanki Administration when there are certain obvious mistakes that we tankers make which causes a wide array of problems to many thousands of other tankers.
Moving on to my analysis;-

What are The Different Types of LAGS!?

The two types of lags are -

1. FPS Lags
2. PING Lags

Q1. What is an FPS(Frames Per Second) lag?

Ans1. FPS lags happen when your computer/laptop isn't good enough to run Tanki optimally and it is often experienced by players when they are playing on large maps. Your gaming experience isn't going to be great when your FPS is 20 or below.
Now for those of you who do not have a good PC/Laptop, I suggest you go to your settings and uncheck the following boxes:-

1. Mip Mapping ( You may have some problems playing without this initially but It should only take 15-20 minutes to get used to it. Though I suggest you switch it back on for any photo-shoot if you are the photographer)

2. Show Skybox ( It actually helps me play better when this is turned off. Though I suggest you switch it back on for any photo-shoot if you are the photographer)

3. Any other boxes related to graphics ( Soft particles, Dynamic lighting etc.)

Q2. What is a PING Lag?

Ans2. Ping lag is the lag caused if your internet speed (or download speed) is slow. I suggest you to not download anything while playing, load a video or do anything that may slow down your internet speed while playing.

A ping higher than 150 will affect your gameplay.

Another Important reason why PING lags occur when we play is due to the fact that many players end up crowding a handful of servers causing them to get overloaded with players which often results in them crashing.

Q3. Now how do we solve the above mentioned problem?

Ans3. The solution is simple but not very easy, it will only get better if there is more awareness among players. The busiest of EN servers is EN2 followed by EN3 but neither of them are flooded except during events
The busiest servers of the game are the first five RU servers out of which RU1, the home for XP/BP battles is also notorious for crashing quite often. Some of us have also experienced some terrible crashes during events which have resulted in us losing millions of crystals in battle fund and instances of players earning 20k crystals after joining an empty 'High Fund' battle (and playing for 10 minutes) which was close to getting over but players getting kicked from the server due to the crash, and this in my opinion isn't very healthy for the GAME BALANCE.

Since it is a known fact that Tanki wouldn't be launching 2 servers dedicated to XP/BP battles, It is up to the players to show some organization. You may have noticed that the only server that is always empty and somewhat empty even during the biggest events is EN1. The reason behind this is simple generalissimos, upon entering the game are by default directed to EN1 and they leave that server since nothing is ever happening there and they either come to EN2 to play with lower ranks(I don't see any problem with that ) Or they go to RU1 to play format battles.

My suggestion is that from now on, all the players of the EN community should try to organize format battles in EN1 instead of flocking to RU1. This helps in decongesting RU1 and at the same time it stops generalissimos from entering EN2 to find a suitable battle( nothing wrong with gissmos in EN2 but it stops the complaints of other people of generalissimos playing in EN2)

Getting EN players to play format battles in EN1 should therefore have a lot of advantages and should reduce the server load on RU1.

Please leave any comment/suggestion you may have in mind that should help in dealing with such issues.

Thank you for reading this entire wall of text :)

You could've just said that en players play formats on en1, no need for the text wall

Well then nobody reads the post. I am also highlighting other problems that get overlooked.

Also, not everyone knows the best ways to deal with lags, and if you opened the spoiler I have requested any mod that comes across it to edit it in the best possible manner or move it to problems and solutions depending on where this topic would be more relevant.

It's a suggestion after all.

Great suggestion about shifting players from RU1 to EN1 for format battles but the problem is HOW are the EN players are gonna be encouraged to go to EN1 for format battles? This will be very challenging especially when a small percentage of players actually go to the forum plus the lack of any good battles on that server is a huge hindrance in getting players to play on that server.

You are being less than honest about the causes of latency. The EU servers will try to balance the access speeds of all the players so the wider the discrepancy between signal distance/quality, the worse the problem of lag/latency. Answer - reduce the distance of the signals. Kick out the Russians and stop biasing the EU servers to suit them. And don't say it doesn't happen - we can all see it occurring every time they swap the EU servers. Keep the EU servers for the EU players and the RU servers for the Russians. problem solved. Only Tanki won't do that because they want to soak the Russians for as much cash as they can and feeding them the EU players (who have much higher purchase costs and much less experience than most of the Russian players) means that the Russians have an easier game and the EU players have to stuff cash into Tanki to stand any chance of playing on a level playing field (and even then not much).

So get used to the lag. Some of what is written above may help some EU players a little but the real cause will never be addressed - EU players are being screwed over and Tanki could care less.

I appreciate your hard work. But I'm afraid there is no need for this:

Original topic: How To Mitigate Lags

Oh.. Well I didn't know that article existed or I forgot about it.

Anyways I read through it and that article is stressing upon what to do when you have lag issues. I am suggesting methods on how to minimize or avoid lags in the 1st place, therefore I feel they are both quite different which have similar topic titles.

RU1 crashes the most because players use Battle links as a means of gaining entry into RU1 even once it's packed. Now even if you live in South Korea or if you're playing from the Tanki headquarters, you shouldn't expect a good experience when there are so many players in 1 server, good internet speed won't matter under such circumstances.

This is precisely why I am laying emphasis to the fact that there should be format battles in EN1 as it would:-

1. Help to decongest RU1

2. Give EN1 the much needed life so that generalissimos have something to do in that server.

3. It would stop a lot of people from complaining about the fact that gissmos flood EN2 and there would no longer exist stupid petitions to ban gissmos from entering EN2

thank you, my aim is to make people aware. I totally agree that even EN4,3,2 Also crash but a lot less in comparison to RU1.

Also I have never heard of EN1 crashing and it's never more than half hull even during the biggest events when there have been 120k players online.

GJ, for teaching us what is ping and fps lol

And that's why this section of the forum is flooded with topics like "my fps is too low!! Help!" While they're playing on the highest possible graphics settings.

Also I think you have overlooked the point that I am trying to shift some XP/BP battles to EN1, and in my opinion that suggestion has never been made before.

Therefore if you know how to deal with lag, that's very good for you. Just don't throw a tantrum when you play for hours and lose thousands of crystals after getting lagged out of a battle due to server crash.

Or when the server can't handle all the tanks it is taking on, and relegates some IPs to 1/3 speed. For most data packets, this is a negligible problem, but for real-time games, it is the kiss of death.

I usually have a frame rate of 25, and on EVERY server today it is always less than 16, as low as 8 or 9. :o

Let's not say "your PC isn't fast enough" or "your connection isn't fast enough" because they usually ARE, and it's the unreliable server programming that lets FPS drop and PING skyrocket with no rhyme or reason. I mean, the devs admitted as much last month. When they plan to get off their rumps and do something about it is anyone's guess.

Since the devs won't dedicate servers for XP/BP, I feel it makes sense for players to show some organization amongst themselves
