Crystals distribution winners -vs- loosers

Recommended Posts

I played a 60 minute game of Noise CTF. There was one person on the blue team who obtained 3,000 points, and every other person on that team got less than 1,000 points. I on the red team, obtained 1,200 along with another person. Every other person on my team got close to that amount. The blue team won by a substantial amount, and that one player who got 3,000 points on the blue team earned close to 2,000 crystals. I and the other person who got 1,200 points on the red team earned close to 300 crystals. My idea for an addition is that who is the winner and who is the loser of a match should not put such a substantial weight on the distribution of crystals at the end of a match. I agree that it should a little bit but not this much.

If a game has as large of a gap as you said that game was, there will be a large gap in the distribution of crystals. However, if the score had been close, your team would have earned some more crystals and theirs a bit fewer. The other factor determining crystal distribution is score in comparison to your team. If you are close to everyone on your team, you will get similar crystals. If someone has a substantially higher score than the rest of their team, they will get a substantially higher amount of crystals.

This game is an extreme case, where a team won by a lot (thus getting a large portion of the fund), and the first place player had a large lead among the team (thus gaining a large portion of his or her team's fund).

On your team, since there was a large score gap, your team got much less of the fund. And since your team all had similar scores, you got similar crystals.

Think about it. If a player had a score that is 1k over the rest of that player's team (in a 1 hr game), and they won, then that player HAD to be carrying the win. Since they carried the win, they deserve a large chunk of crystals.

Also, battle funds do get higher at higher ranks. Do not expect to be earning crystals similar to your score until the rank of major or so.

Declined

One or two years ago there was an update that made fund distribution very generous for losers and less experienced players. Before that update if you were to lose with a flag score of something like 50-49, the first player on the winning team would get more than double the crystals of the first player on the red team even if they had similar scores, despite the tiny flag difference.

And if there was a very fair game and the score was 0-0 the whole game, but one team managed to cap one flag in the last second, the losing team would get zero crystals. Nothing. Even if their personal score in the battle was 10x of the players in the winning team.

And even within the team usually the first 2 or 3 players would get about 85% of the battle fund, because the fund distribution was decided by a quadratic formula.

However, after the update (i.e. nowadays) three major changes happened:

  • The losing team gets at least 20% of fund, even if they scored no flags/control points/kills
  • The losing team gets up to 40% of the fund if the score difference is small
  • The fund distribution is linear, meaning that you get the same exp/crystal ratio as anyone else in your team, regardless of score.

With that in mind, the amount of crystals the losing team gets can't get any fairer than what it already is. In your example the blue player with 3000 points worked hard to get so many points and he brought victory to his team, so it's completely fair that he gets a lot more crystals than players in your team, who got less points and didn't even win. The fund distribution will not change any more in favour of the losing team.

Everyone has had that time when they do all the hard work in a useless team, but then they lose and get the worst amount of crystals possible. Even if they work hard and get the highest score in the game, they get crystals that match the opponent with a score 5x worse. It really does piss me off and it's really unfair.

Above is a screenshot of an unfair battle fund. My team was absolutely bullcrap, even swear words couldn't describe most of them - half of them don't even know how to turn their turret.

I think we need to reward the players more who actually do some work for the losing team, as it discourages many good players. We know that the enemy team won, so they do deserve more crystals, but is it really fair to give them over 3x more?
