[Forum] What do you think it would be like if just about every topic wasn't locked instantly?

Recommended Posts

I remember a time in 2012 when there was barely any moderation and everyone had a good time. Now all we have are generic "question topics" which have a question in the title, and players share an obvious response. There are also topics spilled in from the "Game Discussion" because topics about the game apparently don't belong there.

I made a topic in early 2013, it went on for a good while. I recreate the same one in 2015 and it gets put away within in an hour, luckily the admins later unlocked it as per my request so it can die the normal way.

Now watch this one go away too because of the state of this place, no wonder this place has been dead for the past 3 years. And while this topic is still up, say what you want.

Man, you have some nerve, posting this topic..... <_<

Get ready for some long bans......

But yea, I agree with you, topic moderation has gotten WAY too strict; I mean, it's just a game; as long as the topic doesn't break any rules, why should the mods close them? But they close them, saying that "this topic is uselesss, or please read the rules, or please discuss this here, and all sorts of other stuff...... -_-

I just wish everything was they way it was.................way back when I first started tanki in 2013...... <_<

The forums has no policy against me logging on another account and doing the same.

I've accumulated a healthy number of accounts during my long time on this game.

I don't expect this topic to be around when I wake up, I'm even surprised it lasted this long.

Lots of intelligent, fun and interesting people have stopped posting or left - and have largely been replaced by less intelligent, fun and interesting people. As a result, those three qualities are much rarer on the forum than they used to be. The proper EN social community really takes place on Skype now, and has been that way for a long time.

Hmmm.. This topic reminds me of something... Our EN community hasn't been performing well.

Check this video out, I totally agree with this guy

Hi,

1st off, I won't deny there's some truth in there with the forum not yielding enough "interesting topics".  That's something I've been looking into lately and its not unlikely that we'll see some changes happening to the forum later down the line to boost that aspect.

However, I do have to point out that there are some things which some of you seem to not grasp.

  1. Interesting topics are not 1 liners !  And there's a lot of people who make topics with 1 line of text and deem it interesting.  They're not.  We'd love you people to be more like old forumers were : come up with original ideas , put some time and work into the content before posting and ensure you maintain the thread discussion and interaction with other forumers once the topic is posted.

  2. Moderation is indispensable.  Back to those years you mention there was surely more liberty and many abused it and that's what prompted the administration to close in more all that with stricter moderation.  You say people leaving now cause they aren't allowed to post freely.  But you forget that back then many left as well cause the forum became a place for very uninteresting jibber jabber as it was highjacked by a bunch of trolls who'd highjack all good topics, derail the conversation and make that become their instant messaging service.

  3. If you found your topic was closed, you can always pm the mod and ask him for the reason.  Work on it and and make the topic better and you can be sure when you post it again it won't be closed.

  4. The rules are here and are not going anywhere.  Neither are moderators.  If you want your topic to live then learn how to make them within the rules and not some petty rule-infringing, attention-seeking, post-count boosting activity.

With the above said I would like to get back to the 1st point of "interesting topics"

I'm all ears on this and would love to see your suggestions as to what could be nice topics to have on the forum.  I acknowledge that not all here may have the necessary writing or creative skills to make good appealing topics, but that doesn't mean we can't have someone else develop on good ideas posted by others.

We definitely can work on something there with everyone as a community and not wait for developers or someone in the games company to lift a finger for us to progress.  So please, post your ideas here, lets hear them

Dude, if you want to post something like this - Take off ~mod edit: strong statements~ If you want to argue about why your post got removed then use PM, I_F is one of Admins who are surprisingly active and will answer in 10-20 minutes.

As time went by, our community got bigger and bigger. More and more players registered on the forum as time passed by, the forum started attaining more activity, more topics, posts, comments etc.

Similarly, to cover a larger amount of players' rights and obligations and to provide basic principles for all in order to persue discipline more rules were created. These rules were created so that we'd not be facing a troubled forum in the future, to avoid peer randomness and lack of informative threads in the forum. It was done to innovate players to the correct way of use of topics, replies and all forum features.

Players still avoid reading section rules, we still see many threads around which aren't appropriate for the forum. Questions, random topics, topics for pictures etc is an everyday thing for forum mods. To maintain a clean and disciplined forum, we take appropriate measures - may it be locking, merging, moving and whatnot.

You see, we don't lock topics for any personal reason. Our duty asks us to mainain order throughout the forum. We perform our duty by following all rules specified to us and take actions accordingly, nothing is done without a pensive moment of consideration in this forum when it comes to forum moderators - I can tell from my 2 years of experience. Even if something goes wrong, it is corrected almost immediately.

Alongside that, we're always here to talk matters out. Just like how the admin resolved the issue after hearing what you had to say. :)

You know, what you imply here and what that topic is are 2 different things.  In your mind you see it as 1, but for the rest of the world we sadly don't share the comfort of being in your mind and seeing these 2 things as 1.

To answer your question, yes cooking topic, why not, as long as its good and made in off-topic section, that's the reason we have such a section.  We even had tanki themed cooking contests in the past.  So I'm all for a cooking topic.  In fact you'll be surprised but cooking is that 1 thing most chat mods never stop speaking about and every now and then various helpers from various groups just love to talk food.

But this?

I wished I had the voice and accent of GradeA UnderA just to tell you

Grade.PNGwho do you think you're kidding mate?

That ain't no cooking topic !  Its just an excuse to milk a cow and further justify it by 9 extra steps !

I agree with Davel about Issho's signature. YOu know how it feels when there is a bright signature in the middle of the dark forum background :D

I just removed my signatures

Anyways, those were not "official signatures", as you may know — official signatures are those found under @Cedric Debono's posts, for example.

Took me a while to find it in this section, oh well.

All I want is for the Tanki forum administration team to look at how a few other (active) forums are run and the content that's allowed on them and take them as an example.

One of the common things I see everywhere is that simple "spam" topics with no topic to discuss at all are not removed, but left alone to die like a post should. It should only be considered spam if there are multiple useless topics by the same person at once with a similar/identical message ruining the experience for others. A pointless topic doesn't harm anyone now, does it?

Lots of intelligent, fun and interesting people have stopped posting or left

And I wonder why...

The great posters I remember never announced their departure in a topic, but by private messages (cheap_plastic_flower, Contaminated, etc.) so reasons can be mixed. But the time they left was usually after getting their posts removed/locked that would have been perfectly fine when they had originally joined. Here we have the case of cheap_plastic_flower in late 2013 where everyone including some team members were having fun with a joke, everyone knew wasn't real, but for some reason it isn't allowed? He's done worse things in the past but those topics were never locked/moderated. A few days after that he went offline for about 2 years 1/2 before coming back to make 1 post... and has since left again probably seeing nothing has changed.

Players usually safely express their opinion by pressing the "Like This" button as you can't get banned for agreeing with someone's opinion. The fear of the moderation team has stopped creative/funny/original content as it has appeared as unwelcome for a now long while in the community's eyes. I don't know how you can eliminate that fear as I am only one person of this community who wants change, but many others do too and they're too afraid to say anything, (that is, unless you want fear).

I got no idea what happened in the summer of 2013, but since then this place has been run like Russia, and we know how no one likes that. Just straight up ask the community what they think could be improved on, there is always room for improvement if you view this place as perfect already.

By the way, since this topic is now in this section do you mind to edit the title to something describing the problem a little better so players understand what the topic's about?

The moderators know how to kill a topic - move it where no on will see it. It's the next best thing to deleting the topic itself.

All I want at this point is a safe way for players to give their opinion on the moderation team, because you can't criticize them without your voice being taken away.
