- Articles should be at least 400 words in length.

Shorter articles may be approved at our discretion as long as the short length is justified by the article type and content e.g. short stories, poems etc.

 

- Articles must be in understandable English.

This doesn't mean the grammar has to be perfect - only that the article is readable. However, if the grammar is bad enough to impede normal reading, the article won't be approved.

 

- Do not plagiarize any content!

Topics posted with content that has been copied by the user with the obvious intention of making it appear as their own work will not be approved! This includes content from the TO Forum and anywhere else.

 

- Article should be original.

Articles shouldn't be dull and obvious. If you're writing a guide on a specific hull, don't simply copy and paste its stats from the wiki and add a paragraph of well-known facts. That isn't what we're looking for. Be original!

 

We recommend that you work on your article in a separate text document or using the forum's private PM feature. Here are some tips on how to write up a good article before you click the post button:

- Format the article properly.

Make use of a suitable and relevant topic title, and use paragraphs properly to make sure your text is structured so that it's easy for other people to read! Don't use an unsuitable topic title, cursive fonts or overly bright colours or we will change it.

 

- Make use of images.

Most good articles have illustrations or visuals of some sort. There doesn't have to be too many. One or two will often do the trick and be better than just having a big text wall.

 

- Proofread and edit your work.

Self-editing is always a good idea, so that you can make sure you've avoided grammar errors as well as going back and perfecting the general structure and content of the article once it's finished.

- Font choices, sizes and colors have now been restricted.

From now on, Trebuchet MS and size 14 are the default choices of font and size your article should be constructed using. You are free to use any color in your article's main body of text as long as it is easier to read and doesn't hurt the eyes. However, this doesn't mean that there has been a complete restriction on other fonts, no. You can use other fonts for headings and sub-headings, basically something professional like Georgia, Lucida Sans Unicode, Tahoma and so on. Additionally, you should refrain from using default font and size as well as drowning your article's text in rainbow colors as it only makes the work of the helper harder. Note: This doesn't mean that you can't use other fonts, like for example Courier New, which is a popular one when it comes to something related to robotics, waveforms of voices, timelines in stories and so on - but I'd highly recommend keeping those to a minimal too.

 

- Restrictions regarding certain type of media.

Pictures smaller in size can be pasted in an article without any concern. However, larger pictures, for example, any sort of wallpaper pictures, vertically-long comics, posters and other images (for example, memes) need to be in a spoiler. Additionally, all GIFs must also be placed in a spoiler. This is because the page loads a lot smoother when huge files like these load themselves out quietly in a spoiler rather than in the open with the rest of the page.

Additionally, posting ineligible and advertising topics successively may also lead to a warning, or a ban if the violator continues to do so.
