The Forum's Condition

2. New players need to join the forum

And yet the minimum rank for basic posting rights/privileges keeps on rising by the year. If you want new players to join it has to be encouraged, but this only makes it harder for "new players" to join.

This is "Off-Topic"...Why can't we just be friends?xku0wn.gif

P.S.

Spam, flood and hate, etc., is bad...Enforcement is the issue. However, this is also a gaming forum, and Off-Topic is for humorous, as well as serious topics. And some time, even a bit of humor in a serious topic, as long as it doesn't sidetrack the thread, can stimulate conversation, just as in real life. We cannot become robots, fearful of making topics. We are here to have fun and enlightenment..."Yeah!" :)

Sorry for the double post here.

This problem is more broad (in my mind) than just keeping the forum alive. It has to do with keeping the game alive. It is no big secret that, on normal days, servers are becoming less and less populous. I know that, last year, I could find plenty of games after 11 pm EST, but now, a year later, and the only games at that time are lopsided (no exaggeration here).

The game and the forum are pretty connected. For the number of new players coming into the forum to go up, the number of people going into the game has to go up (see my post above).

True, but that is a whole different "problem" alltogether, very little to do with what i addressed on my post.

The original post suggests marketing, which i ignored, it didn't connect with the main theme of the post well. here are my thoughts on it.

If i was to try making tanki popular i would try to step the gameplay and graphics up, maybe even start a whole new game together... oh wait, that is actually happening. The product that tanki was isn't the product it is now, standars are higher even for an online game.

You addres Tx yourself, but say: "advertising for TO today would mean more transfer players over to TX." Which is not how it works... what if they don't take the bait, and dislike tanki? Is it likely that they will try Tx later? And moreover, why put money in advertising an old product in the 1st place, when you have something that will sell better coming up? For better incom? The number of new players buying wouldn't be high, and tanki is really good at milking the old buyers. +On a server, moderation and development level new players cost, it's ideal to have servers like en2 and ru servers that are full of buyers, instead of having all servers full with little more buyers, when you are prepping for a new game alltogether.

I wouldn't worry about advertising, there are people paid for doing it working for tanki. And from my observation they aren't ducking up atm. so i'd just let them do their thing with Tx, and leave normal tanki unadvertised.

we understand your issues and the sad part is that there is trolls / issues on other games .. this is now gotten to be the normal thing.. players joke around ..its there way to let of steam / anger after a hard day in the real world .. and if not that its also a way to joke around and be there self's with other people in other parts of the world..

this issue should be addressed more to tanki on line for them to look into ways of changing on how many threads a player can open or even titles having to be a certain length ..

we know either way that it gets changed there will be and all ways are ways to get around things .. say you limited how many posts or threads they can open all the player has to  do is open up new accounts .. ( which most of us do have more then one ) and for the length of the title for post well all they have to do is make it longer .. so really is there ways to change it maybe . if you want to get a good debated  going then create a good topic that can be debated about.. this is all i have to say..

Just kidding, there a lot of spammers on potd. People who dont really spam as such, but post a lot of useless stuff. Its photo of the day, not how many battles screenshots do you have of the day.

Well.... There's a lack of players willing to have serious discussion about the topics in question. One thing that does come to my attention now, though, is that there always has been off topic discussion in every topic. So why is this suddenly becoming an issue now?

Because users are getting tired of seeing the amount of spam posted everyday. You do not imagine the amount of reports we receive from users complaining because their topic was ruined by other users.

You do not know how many posts we have hidden and how many users have been warned and banned in the past due to the fact that they purposedly ruined other topics with spam, slander, flaming, provocation, etc..

Users reached their tolerance limit and they have the complete right to cry out loud against other users ruining this Forum.

We, Helpers, are trying our best everyday to keep this Forum alive.

So are we. I never wanted to see the forum turn out the way it has. I do know how much workload you people have and I also have an idea of the mountain of reports you get everyday.. XD. Though I wonder, I don't see this problem being such a big issue in most other forums. Maybe the fact that the average age of Tanki forum user is quite less has got something to do with it. In any case, banning those who post off topic stuff is not going to be a long term solution. (Of course, online trolls deliberately trying to cause flood, flaming, etc are an exception. Imo, they deserve a forever ban from the forum) Come to think of it, this forum doesn't have a huge amount of active users and hence it shouldn't be a surprise if most of the posts belong to the same few players. (Yeah...anyone Remember me from last year? 100+ posts a day... Beat that! :p) Of course, this doesn't mean that flooding should be tolerated. But, upto a reasonable extent, I don't really have a problem with people posting memes or gif's or some any other off topic stuff in a thread that has already exceeded it's average lifespan. (Yeah... In a small community like ours, no single off topic thread lasts longer than a few months. After all... How long will the same people discuss the same topic?) Edited by beaku

As of now, I didn't read what all is going on in the comments to this topic, so, this'll be like the first reply

Fen-Harel, I agree with what you said there; but I'll object some things...

Agreed that many topics get diverted from the title, and sometimes even drift to irrelevant/useless discussion..but that isn't 100% true...some topics themselves are of no/minimal use, and conversation, if continued according to title, would soon die, and be of no use in history...

For example(as you took it): the How tall are you topic...what would you do of the height of anyone on earth? Moreover, if you follow the title, you are never required to post more than once on the topic..

So what's the outcome of the topic? No fun, no useful info, no interesting things, nothing....in such cases, isn't it better that if the discussion is somewhat drifted to a good discussion, that might bring any interest for anyone? Like, for ex, if the discussion continues on the topic between only two persons, but the discussion is going good that it makes them great friends, isn't it good? The brotherhood increases...

So, to conclude, I would say that drifting the discussion isn't bad unless it is of some use, or brings fun, or is of interest to anyone...

(We don't want a staunch strict on-topic and boring forum, do we?)

I just thought one thing when you said 'new forumers'...a new guy to forum wouldn't quickly grab what's going on with forum if he read all posts...

But then I realised, a NEW guy won't bother reading posts....and those who read the thick overview of the forum, gonna find it good...and for those who MIGHT read in the thin lines, will soon get friendly with how it all goes...

Please correct me if I just said anything wrong anywhere.. ^_^

now let's read the posts, and know what's going on in THIS topic :P

We were all new at some point, just look back to that time and ask yourself if you did look and read over the post before replying.

I don't know if I did or not it was so long ago, so I'm asking anyone who does remember to go check that.

Neither do I exactly remember if I read or not...it has been very long...:p

But what I can remember, I didn't...

And BTW, I already said that many do not read before replying, but still, there are some who do...and the case is more or less similar with everyone, as explained earlier..;)

On Fen's behalf, I've requested that the Forum Moderators remove all off-topic posts once again. If you want to discuss Moderators or their actions, contact their respective Admins. This will allow for much more constructive discussion via the suitable method of communication.

This topic is intended to stay open, to allow for discussions about the issue of irrelevant posts and the general condition of the Off-Topic Discussion section, but for nothing else! Please don't make the irony of this topic so obvious, guys!

And, well done to all those who've contributed thoughtful and relevant posts on having a serious discussion about the matter ^_^

as we have said before no matter how we feel or what we post .. most of the post are and will be remove ..

this is why we are individuals stating our views on how we see it...

we all know that things are not working in the forum between mods and players .

i  have no intentions of provoking anyone .. i'm only telling it as i see it...

like i have said all a long i agree to some of this and then not to other parts .. we all post topics to keep communications open with in the forum .. it might seem to be dumb to some but to others it's a way to have fun.. we are not all adults here ,there is and have always been younger players here .. so we do need to humor all ages regardless what the topics are.. if you do have something for a good topic i would love to debate on it ..as a mom i see the world from so many different angles .... for me this topic is part of the work field and you can't please everyone in the job.. you will have issues no matter what place your job is .. this is and always will be why we are human.. no two human can or will ever think the same..

Any sort of ideas for improvement you may have will be greatly appreciated not only by me, but by all players who want this forum to go in the right direction and surely the Tanki crew as well.

I think we've done enough debating for now, we won't fix our problems by talking about them, all day. Now let's start working to some solutions to the problems that have come up throughout our talks.

I think a safe place to start would be asking ourselves, 'What is spam/flood?' Saying either of those words could mean quite a few things, and is still a broad category to define forum posts. We need to draw the line somewhere between spam, and acceptable posts in the Off-Topic section.

I'll start by saying 'Off-Topic' doesn't mean No-Topic, and if posts have nothing to discuss, it's clearly spam/flood.

Even if it's not apparent what the topic is, there's still something to talk about if there's work put into the making of it. As long as there's something to talk about, it should be fine.

I find it incredibly ironic that you posted here a minute after you had created a topic called 'Make up reasons why the sky is blue', which seems rather pointless and a bit of a waste of space...

ok im not defending anyone on this..

but what players are now doing is just making topics just to keep the forum alive.. all the good topics have been used over the years.. or we are no longer allowed to use it cause they get blocked or closed... also some we can't use due to religion reasons ..

we need to make topics for all to enjoy not just one age group... we are all different ages here , which you guys know..

its hard to make topics when you can't talk about games / limited in the personal topics due to privacy act / until someone comes up with a topic that all can take place in... we will continue to see these topics...

we all understand your frustrations .. but there is limited ideas on how to make this work for now..

i did have a idea in the past of how to improve the v-logs and it got  move to idea's and suggestions where most players have no idea about it there.. this is also a issue for us players what you feel is not appropriate in one section you move to another one where no one can see it/ unless they use that topic area...

we also are fed up

we all need to come to agreement on how too work together and not have these issues ..

here is an idea for the mods to maybe help get more players involved in the forum

like to make a video for the v-log on how to use the forum and where the rules are and stuff .. do  it in small 1-2 minute videos ...so new players can join ..they might have new ideas to add to the chat rooms..

start with the opening of the forum and location of rules.. then each week or every two weeks or so.. make a video for v-log and do each section , also add in sections that some of us have no clue about ,, and yes there is area in the forum i still have not used .. this way you get new fresh ideas coming in to change the forum..

this  is only a idea its fully up to the mods if they wish to take on this project .. another section in tanki will be getting one done in time..
