Deep thoughts

Welcome!

This is an idea I've had for a while now, every week I'll post a new question that provokes deep thought and a well-put response and have a discussion.

All ideas and responses are accepted as long as they stay on-topic with our discussion, but I have to ask that you write it in decent English. no txt speek or 1337 plz

Ready?

Starting off, y'know that theory that every choice you make affects the universe and creates alternate universes for each possible outcome?

My question is, do you think EVERY person has a part in it, or would it JUST be specific people? For example, we always have an alternate reality where (Just for example) Germany won the second world war and took over the world, but do you think only key figures during that time had an effect or everyone played a part?

Discuss below.

What if we are all in a dream as children, not remembering anything when we wake up, and we go through this exact life in a loop on constant dreams.

...Uh?

I'm not sure how to reply?

Our discussion for this week is clearly written above.

Oh, so THAT is how it works...

Meh, parallel universes are not as interesting as a slight change in the time continuum. The further back you go, the "stranger" the current "reality" becomes. And only you know the difference.

Interesting, what if only certain events or decisions change the timeline?

Is that a plausible explanation?

No, every change has some consequence. If you were to change something 30 minutes in the past, it would have a lesser impact than 30 years in the past, by which time decisions would have compounded. All changes in the timeline cause slight changes or ripples, the further back, the greater the ripple.

Huh.

But what if we were to bring about catastrophic changes to the entire world?

Bigger changes will have bigger impacts, but a change the same size, but further back in time, will have a larger impact than one more recent

What if the universe is an expermient for a Chemistry class?

wooooooooooooooooahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. That would be a pretty successful result then.

I've always had a suspicion time is just a concept created by humans to have a better understanding of the universe.

If so how would we even manipulate it?

It clearly hasn't been recorded since the early days of the Earth, the mayans being one of the first to create a rudimentary calendar system.

If that is true, I think time travel would be impossible because we would be tampering with something we can't even begin to understand.

exactly. You can not mess around with what you don't understand. Besides, no one has yet to figure out the Space-Time continuum.

It clearly hasn't been recorded since the early days of the Earth, the mayans being one of the first to create a rudimentary calendar system.

I've had the suspicion that:

Time is measured by change, basicly time is just the human way of putting the changes of form in a fancy line. However the actual "time" is just in perception, in actuality there is just change, and the change in our minds we just happen to label time.

So in conclusion every change of form that happens is it's own "time".

Also reinforced by the fact, that we tend to think of time in context of happening, for example the changes in our body, or the progress in certain area of life are how we measure the that time has passed. On the perception of an alien that processes data 100 times faster than man, the "time" is significantly slower.

But there are undefined words there; where are the limits of "me" the perciever and is there even a static state of existance, where we can say that time doesn't pass... afterall atleast the physical world is constantly in conversation with itself, and change always happens, when there is comparasion to something other that is, or something that was (or as i would say something that is, but we labeled as something that was  ).

This is really getting out of hand.

Furthermore i don't think universe can be explained with english, maybe with numbers or within ones experience or maybe even thoughts....

But not just straight up basic lanquge. This is why i usually avoid talking about deep things... it just turns out weard :P

I think everyone has an effect on it. This creates an UNFATHOMABLE amount of possible universes. However I like to imagine everyone haveing their own parallel universes. (its such a great feeling to think of yourself so utterly insignificant to everything and everyone)
