[Issue 56] The Mid Ranker's Handbook: Product Kits

Mini Contest:

I have bought many kits : Anaconda, Simoom, Stinger, Firewall and will buy more  :)

But Today ill talk about The Firewall kit.

It is "the" most powerful kit For this rank.

Talking about Fire, It is really a good turret which can easily clean up enemies.(As most of them go with light and medium hulls at this rank). Hunter is also a good hull as you have a bit of armor and also speed which is good for Firewall. Also, you dont need to use supplies to become OP. Thats a fact other kits like Simoom, Anaconda, Stinger etc need supplies to be OP.

Also the paint Hohlama is cool and the module is not that good as it is rarely used my other tankers.

That was my entry for the contest B)

                                                                                   My Personal Experience

I zoomed across the massive battlefield with the crimson flag of my enemies held above my tank. I had double speed equipped and was steady approaching our flag zone. But as I neared the final stretch I was struck by a torrent of bullets that seemed never to cease and my tank veered off coarse. The weapon was tearing me apart and I knew I wouldn't make it to our flag in time. I took one final glance at my assailant; an M2 Vulcan mounted on the towering Dictator M2.

Vulcan M2 is currently my primary weapon and has been since ranking up to Second Lieutenant. I have lots of experience using Dictator with Vulcan so I hope this kit review proves to be beneficial to you.

Vulcan M2

Pros:

  • Unlimited firing
  • Unlocked at a low rank
  • Capable of taking down an M1 Dictator in its clip
  • Good damage at medium ranges
  • One of the cheapest M2s
  • Not many tankers have protection modules against it
  • Knock-back force capable of flipping hornets and wasps if timed correctly
  • Excellent accuracy and auto aim

Cons:

  • Considerably less damage at farther distances
  • Draws a lot of attention to yourself
  • The rotation speed slows greatly when firing
  • Barrels take time to start spinning, thus having a delayed reaction time
  • Performs poorly at close ranges
  • Self heating when firing for too long can cause you to severely damage or even destroy your tank

Vulcan is in my opinion, the most underrated turret in the game. The pros outweigh the cons and this turret ends up being extremely over powered. Vulcan works best with heavy hulls do to the self damage over time.

This kit comes with the beloved dictator M2, the tallest hull in the game. The health at M2 is decent but not great (equivalent to the lighter viking M2). The height paired with Vulcan gives it a slightly better angle of fire but also makes you an easier target. Dictator is probably the most conspicuous of hulls, and paired with Vulcan makes it really stand out in battles and easily noticed by the enemy. For these reasons, Dictator may not be the best of hulls to pair with Vulcan.

The paint that this kit comes with resembles the scales of an python with aesthetically pleasing patterns along it.

The protection module however, is slightly disappointing. It's protection against freeze and shaft is not very useful due to the fact that they are one of the least common turrets in the game.

Ratings:

Vulcan M2- 8.5/10

Dictator M2- 6/10

Python paint- 9/10

Protection module- 3/10

Overall summary and rating:

This kit is unlocked at a low rank and comes with a strong turret and hull, a nice paint, and a poor protection module. The combo is fair though has some minor issues due to its size and height. With all these factors accounted for, my final rating of this kit is a respectable 7/10.

497 words, Thanks for reading and good luck to those who are participating in this competition! :)

Hello,

Simoom_kit.png

and welcome tankers to my first kit review. This is only the second kit I have bought so far in TO, my first being Firefly. To be fair; I bought this kit while the modules update was being introduced and kits had wildly varying prices. I bought mine for 109,000 crystals without any protective module or paint, therefore I won't include them in the review. So, I basically got Dictator M2 free as Thunder costs the same. That aside, let's have a look at the kit.

It contains:

Thunder M2

Dictator M2

Sandstone

Kodiak T-D M2

It costs 164,065 Crystals and is available from  Third Lieutenant to  Captain.

The main reason I purchased Simoom was to replace my ageing M1 Viking and also, my Railgun, I also have a significant interest in parkour and Thunder is the best turret for that. I don't actually use the combo together very often, usually, I have Thunder with Wasp, and Dictator with Twins, thus; I only have an average of 26 hours experience across the kits components.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

So let's have a look at the pros and cons of the individual components.

Thunder M2.

PROS:

Very close damage rate as its M3 equivalent. (15% less)

Highest recoil of any weapon. (Excellent for parkour)

Relatively fast rotational speed compared to Railgun.

'Jump effect' can be used to destabilize enemies.

Can self-right medium hulls, -in this case- Dictator.

CONS:

Self-damage.

Makes light hulls unstable due to high recoil.

Expensive.

Requires three shots to destroy an equivalent Wasp or Hornet.

Dictator M2.

PROS:

Excellent for Goldboxes.

Effective parkour ramp.

CONS:

Slowest medium hull.

Awkward to maneuver in tight spaces.

Height means that rocks don't provide particularly effective cover. (Notably in Monte Carlo)

Sandstone.

PROS:

Effective camouflage in Desert themed maps.

CONS:

-none-

KODIAK T-D M2 (These are not from my experience)

PROS:

Protection against Thunder,  therefore almost eliminating self-damage.

CONS:

-none-

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Conclusion:

I purchased the kit at  Captain for 109K, which is what I was going to get Thunder M2 for -that is an absolute bargain- otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. Anyone who can afford to purchase it at Third Lieutenant should do so. As you get to Captain however, I suggest you look into kits such as Minotaur, Jam and Annihilator , the latter applies unless you enjoy parkour as much as I do. Annihilator is extremely expensive though Viking M2 will serve you much better into the future. All in all, I think Simoom is excellent as a garage, not a kit, by this I mean, using Thunder with Wasp, Dictator with Twins/Ricochet, Sandstone with anything. Only use the kit together when gold hunting, speaking of that, the first battle I entered with Simoom, I caught a Gold. :D That is the only memorable battle I have with this kit.

Thanks for reading!

See YOU in battle!

Is it OK if I post this in the amatur writing section as well?

If I save up, say, 230,000 crystals with M0s by the time I reach Captain, would you guys recommend me buying Northerner, Glaze, or Annihilator? I have about the same level of skill on these turrets, so it doesn't really matter which one I pick. I only want to know which one will last until I can get Man O' War.

Thx!

Beware!

Boar Kit!

Now let's start out topic about Boar Kit. Boar kit consists of Dictator m2, Ricochet m2, Sandstone and a Module. First, let's look on how effective Boar kit can be. Boar kit can be utilised to it's maximum in Medium-Long range map's rather than small maps. I wouldn't say that it is not good in small map's, but according to me and most of the people, it's better in Medium-Larger maps THAN smaller maps. Ok, so now get into the main content. First:

1) Ricochet: Ricochet unlocks at the rank of first lieutenant. This turret is a good upgrade from it's m1 version and the most noticable update is that, it looks more beautiful now. :P So, coming to the point it's advantages are:

  • An effective range, larger than twins but is not so big. It can still be used in large maps upto some good extent of power.
  • Ricochet projectiles move faster than twins projectiles.
  • Ability to attack people who are hiding in your range. Ie: You can use the bouncing power of the projectiles to attack people who are hiding. Especially beneath a ramp or a bridge.
  • Knockback force/Impact Force. Yes, you can easily knock out enemies' aim by just shooting onto the edge of their hull.

Ok so, ricochet has got a lot of advantages, but this article isn't dedicated only to it. :P So, let's get moving into our second topic:

2) Dictator: Dictator also unlocks at the rank of First Lieutenant. Not a huge update form it's M1 version. The major advantages of this hull are:

  • This hull has got the greatest height in this game. Which mean's that, it is easy to catch gold boxes with Dictator, rather than with viking.
  • Another good thing about this hull is it's weight. It has got more weight than any of the other medium hulls!

Griffon T-C M2: This module gives us protection against Railgun, Shaft and Vulcun. This module is ideal for Long range battles.

let's move towards how to use this Effectivly:

  1. Make sure that you have micro upgraded Dictator ATLEAST 7-10 times before bringing it upon battlefield. Or else, Viking will surely overpower Dictator.
  2. Use Ricochet's energy efficiently. Yes, you've heard it correct, as you may know, ricochet's energy pool is a good one, but if you keep on pressing space without any gap, the energy pool recharges slowly and thus, leads to less amount of damage dealt. So, I would advice you not to keep on pressing space, especially if the reload bar is in it's Zero position.
  3. Use Ricochet's bouncing projectiles with dictator's height in-order to get maximum power. Using dictator's height, you can easily target enemies above you.
  4. Play in long range map's because the first reason is that, the module that comes along with this kit is perfect for long range battle's, thus making you powerful in those battles!

That's all guys! Good Luck!

In word it is 489 words and in Word counter it is 488 words. :) PS: This isn't final. Please don't judge this one, I've gotta make a lot of changes, ok? If not, then please delete this post. I wanted to write more, but the 500 word limit couldn't didn't allow me! :( I had decided to write Disadvantages, how to use effectivly etc but.. :( Anyway's good Luck for all the other participants. :) Thanks for this wonderful contest! :P  Btw, Zen, I don't think the module you suggested on your front page is there in the wiki.. I couldn't find it... Also, In the product kit's page too, there is not such module..

My submission: (sorry, I was in a hurry)

I bought Voltage kit.

The 60 supplies each it came with helped a LOT. Without double damage, it is in trouble. Works best in Cross or Aleksandrovsk, actually.

The dictator hitbox is very helpful for catching boxes, and the protection module has good twins and isida protection for the rank. Isida and Twins are common M1s. Also, in Noise, there is a good blue team sniping position aiming at an angle up from the flag.

Railgun M2: Needs MU-es to be effective, can not one-shot M1 hornets like M1 to M0 can.

Dictator M2: Good health for the rank, a bit awkward and pushing power is low.

Electra: Beautiful.

Grizzly T-D M2: Smoky protection useful at higher ranks.

In my opinion, it is better to buy a different turret on your dictator than Railgun.

I'm fine with it taking years, but... I'll probably just buy a cheap M1 kit, like Vampire.

I've been debating with myself on whether I should get firewall or glaze ever since WO5.  This is a really good article, but it hasn't helped me much seeing as how it ranked both of them the same (7.5). I'm leaning towards firewall right now since its Tanker's Day and I can get it with a bigger discount ,but I'm still undecided. Will it be worth it? someone help!

Maybe the reviews will help? Several kits are bound to get the same rating because of the short scale.

Please note -

It appears that a few of the product kits have different modules now. Updating the article accordingly may take quite some time because I will have to rewrite parts of the reviews.

Zenith101, will you create more contests like this one? By that I mean ones that can only be entered if the tanker is a mid rank. These competitions are really fun and that's why I was asking.

Contest Entry:

Not a kit owner myself, so I will discuss a kit available at the time of writing: Northerner. This kit is the epitome of efficiency in terms of dealing consistent damage and moderate tanking.

Starting out with the gun, Smoky M2, a great single target gun that relies on quick, intense action, winning most duels at medium ranges. Smoky is great to be upgraded in an earlier rank as it is scary how much damage it deals. The M2 upgrade renders M1 obsolete with its minimal damage higher than the maximum damage of M1. In a TDM/DM, it is crucial the Smoky can score kills with the least amount of shots as well as the increased ability to "last hit" kills from other players. In a CTF/CP game, Smoky does not bring utility like Freeze or AOE damage like Thunder, so M2 upgrade is a must. 25 damage shot tickles; 40 damage shot hurts, not to mention the 75 damage crit.

However, the hull and module combination is the real reason why this kit is effective. With Viking being one of the heaviest hull in the game, it prevents the player to be knocked off aim at medium range by Wet Noodles (Railgun), Fireworks(Thunder), and Fruit Candies (Ricochets). The nice amounts of HP also means it is impossible for guns such as Spray Painter (Hammer) to play the DPS game against the Northerner. The module combination with the kit is simply disgusting. By blocking 25% of Thunder damage, it gives Northerner edge when attacking the base in maps such as Silence where the enemies gets to free hit you until you get to their face. 25% against enemy Tickler Beam (Isida) will make sure the enemies have an "electrifying" experience as they respawn. 25% against Wet Noodle Mk2 (Shaft) blocks one way of counter play against this kit that is long range sniping. Not enough? Click the "1" and only call-your-local-healer button and keep going. (Did I mention this kit is ridiculous supplies?)

And this brings us to the final question. How to counter play against this kit? As a believer in "non-kit-owning-since-the-paints-suck," the easiest ways to turn Northerner into a Baby Seal is the following:

1) Never engage head on. Have your mothers told you not to have a fist fight against school bullies? Same deal here. Don't fight muscle against the WWE superstar that is Northerner.

2) Make friends. Have your mothers told you not to have a fist fight against school bullies? You can if you out number them. Smoky only hits one target, take advantage of that.

3) flank, Flank, FLANK. A Charizard (Firebird) or Crystal Maiden (Freeze) flank attack can do wonders.

4) Don't bother using Mammoth. The Smoky explosion sound will send you to your psychologist.

So there you have it, my evaluation of Northerner: a strong and worth owning kit with limited yet still possible counter play.

Yeah, a similar contest was also present in the first edition of the handbook. Both of them were created by @GoldRock and yeah, these ones may feature again. :)

The day I waited for soo long finally came.I had been waiting eagerly to buy my favourite kit,JAM KIT,I HAVE heard all around tankers saying dictator is best for gold..so it developed a sense of love for dictator in my heart-finally the day I got jam kit..My first battle with this kit was polygon cp.Using lots of drugs,I finally reached first positions suddenly someone dropped gold box.Everyone rushing towards it like wild dogs to a single bone, thrashing each others, killing each others but somehow I managed to reach a safe spot to directly jump to gold.I could see Gold box in front of me landing like a leaf falling from tree.I hurled towards it,when a railgun shot me and I flipped but as dictator is know for it's gigantic height I Got the Gold Box.Everyone started calling me hacker and cheater but all I knew was just a real luck and a best kit for gold hunters. Finally I finished first and left the battle with 5k fund

When I read Zenith101’s handbook, I was too low a rank to type an entry. Luckily, I ranked up right before the deadline. I am saving up for the Tornado Kit, and so do not yet have any m2s. However, I have faced several m2s on the battlefield, and so would like to write about some turret-hull combinations -and the techniques I use with them- that have worked for me when facing the m2s.

Hammer/Hunter:

Hammer is always a good way to go when you’re facing an m2 kit with a light or even medium hull. It can cause pretty significant damage, and quickly too, if you use it properly. However, Hammer has one flaw: reload. I’ve died several times fighting an m2 kit with hammer because it was not fully loaded. Luckily, there is a potential solution to that problem: Hunter. Hunter has enough speed to move around effectively, but also enough health to protect Hammer against the attacks of enemies. I recommend this combination for defense in team battles.

Freeze/Hornet: I love Freeze, and it’s truly advantageous when you’re battling in ranks with players that have much better equipment than you. I often use it with hornet, because it gives you sufficient speed, but also enough health to hold up against an enemy if they do damage to you. However, it requires skill to use this combination without getting yourself destroyed in the process. My advice is: whatever you do, do not go for the enemy head-on. Creep up from behind, start shooting when you are close enough (if you start shooting too early on the enemy will know you’re there and kill you before you can completely freeze it), and then turn around the enemy so his/her turret is facing away from you.

Railgun/Dictator:

Railgun is my favourite turret, and one of the few things that can be effective against the m2s. I’ve noticed it’s incredibly effective against short ranged m2 turrets in long ranged battles (i.e. Madness). Railgun goes very well with Dictator, because you can peek out from behind a wall and snipe without exposing yourself at all.

Smoky/Wasp:

Smoky is an outstanding gun against m2 kits such as the Mosquito kit (a long range turret combined with a light hull), though it takes timing and coordination. I like to use it with Wasp, so you have around the same speed and agility as your enemy. The technique I find helpful in these situations is to shoot the enemy right before they shoot you, so as to throw off their aim. However, there are two things required for you to make this work: firstly, you need to shoot just in time, and secondly, you must shoot the side of the enemy’s hull. If you shoot the middle of the hull you probably won’t throw off their aim.

Thank you so much for letting me participate!

I used exactly 493 words.
