Quickly switch teams in a battle

Recommended Posts

It would be nice to see a feature in the Team modes that would allow a player to quickly change sides when the battle is unbalanced.  For example:  The BLUE team has 10 players and the RED has two and the end of round early clock steps in counting backwards from :30.

If I wanted to be noble and defect to the weaker side.  I have to click close, click understanding that I am giving up battlefunds, then wait for the lobby, then click on the weaker side's join button, then wait to spawn in battle.  By this time it is quite possible for the battle in progress to end and guess what... I am in a new battle grossly out numbered because the remaining players of the weaker team left.

What do you think?

Duplicate topic: Idea for swapping team

Developers are planning to add the ability to exit a battle and enter the other team without losing your score, but I'm not sure about a quick "switch" button from inside the battle. Good idea.

Probably should be added! i earn alot of score, all enemys leave and i have to ruin my score to keep battle alive.

It should cost 100 score or something like so. Maybe aviable only once or twice in a battle so noone spams it?

#1. A player can switch to the other team in battle when there are less players on that team, but cannot do it from less player team to more player team. This is to balance teams in game.

Players quit the battle to come back as another team when the game is not balanced. Instead of quitting and coming back OR ending the round early, being able to switch teams in battle will make the game much more enjoyable, balanced, effective.

#2. While in battle, when we click 'battle' or 'garage', it should go to the according pages right away instead of the small pop up window that says 'Do you want to stay in the battle while you visit ....' . It is an unnecessary step that arises from game design but not useful for game players.

Rather, by default, players stay in the battle while they visit 'battle' or 'garage', which is done with 1 click without the small pop up window,  and if they want to quit battle then they simply join another battle. OR if they are in garage then they can simply click the quit battle button. It will save 50% of time, since all the players who wish to stay in battle while visiting other pages will do so with just 1 click, and other players who wish to quit and visit other pages will have to take two steps anyways.

Thank you, I hope it helps.

Next time, please create a topic for each idea.

#1, what do you mean? Unless team balancing is off, there is no way for players to join a team that already has more members than the other team.

#2, I'd like to start by saying (with all due respect) that you shouldn't assume things out of nowhere. Unless you somehow have statistics regarding that pop-up or you have done research, polls or you've asked a considerable amount of players, you can't just say "It is an unnecessary step that arises from game design but not useful for game players.". I, for one, find it a great feature. It prevents you from accidentally clicking on things and wasting time. Moreover, you can simply click on Battles or Garage then press "Enter" on your keyboard to instantly access it.

Regarding #1, I meant there is no way for a player to swtich to the other team while in battle when the other team is outnumbered and the teams are unbalanced. Either player has to wait for the round to end, or quit the battle and come back as another team. As in the image(http://uploadpie.com/jCqD6), if I wanted to switch to Blue, I have to quit the battle and come back. It would be great if there was a 'switch' button that I could click on and respawn as Blue right away. Of course I won't be able to switch back to Red since there are more players in Red than Blue. Thanks.

Regarding #2, I made the assumption simply borrowing Steve Pinker's assumption in linguistics where you find a sentence grammatically odd in a sentence in your native language, then other native speakers would find it as such as well. I thought getting rid of the pop up will save a lot of time switching back and forth from garage and battles. But if the pop up has other functionalities I am unaware of or the majority of other players don't mind clicking twice, then this suggestion has no place in the game. Thanks.

But I don't see the advantages of such idea? You'll simply save a few seconds doing so. Of course if you're suggesting that if you had score the score would switch with you, but that's simply impossible.

You're correct, it would save a few seconds but the other functionalities that it has makes the few seconds worth it. And as I said, when you click on battles or garage simply press "Enter" on your keyboard instead of using your mouse to press Yes.

The advantages I can see so far are: #1 Players can enjoy balanced game play instantly without any hindrance when unbalanced, (it saves one-sided boring match of many minutes) #2 The 'Switch' button encourages players to switch teams to balance the team and gives them the awareness they can balance things themselves, #3 Help out the enemy player who's been a good sport fighting outnumbered so far #4 Gives players more freedom and perceived control over what kind of game experience they will have.

If there are other advantages I cannot see yet, please let me konw.

I don't know why keeping the score when switching is impossible, whether it's from programming or not, if it truly is impossible then it is a shame.

These are just my suggestions and thoughts to give the game new edge or possibilities. Thanks :)

So while the "end the battle early" is nice and prevents total abuse, it would be nice for players to be able to switch teams and not loose individual battle points towards crystal distribution at end of round.  This way when an opposing team is down at 4-5 players vs 8-10 a player who has already built up quite a bit of XP would be able to change to the other side, helping to balance the team, and not loose everything he/she has worked for in that battle.

Also on team games, even when there is an even number of players, shuffle the teams and perhaps balance by rank.  After a round is started and a player joins, put them on the team with least players as is currently done.  If the teams are even in numbers, just randomly assign the player.

Implemented across all game types the ability to disconnect from a battle and rejoin it and retain earned XP in that round would even help those of us with poor connections and too many family members streaming netflix...

The topic was in an Under Review designation.  I was just curious if it is something that may come to light or just fade away.

Well, like I said in the first post, developers are planning to make it so that you can leave the battle and come back without losing your score. So I assume that will allow you to safely switch teams as well. I doubt that they will add an actual button to switch teams directly, but you never know...

Why? Quake/QuakeWorld/etc. all did it 20 years ago.  The concept is simple.  The coding would be relatively simple, maybe more work depending on how the current code works.

When a game is going to be terminated... seconds count.  Besides, in most cases I am in the lead of my team when it goes into an unbalanced state and usually I am the one that switches sides.

I think I may have gotten a better way to handle the unbalanced teams.

Let's say that red team is losing and outnumbered heavily by blue team.

So what if we put in a feature where players on the winning team can go to the losing team by having a notification icon, when they click it, a pop-up appears saying "would you like to join the other team?" And three buttons that say "yes,no,close",

if The player clicked yes, they will be automatically set to self destruct and then they are on the other team(and they should be allowed to keep their score they got from the first team)

And it should also balance out different modification levels on each team so that there won't be battles where one team has a huge advantage because there will be players who have equipment with higher modification level at their rank than the average player.

Don't know if this'll work, it needs work, that's for sure, any additions?

Special button? Hmm.

Takes about 10sec over all:

  • Be in the battle and decide to switch
  • in your battle click in the [battles] button
  • in the Lobby click on the [Play] button for the other team or [continue] for your current team
  • enjoy

Are 10sec truely too long?
