Hey tankers! In this article, I will give you comprehensive description about an endangered format, which was once very famous and widely played. Without any further adjournment, let's get started.

Before kick-starting into the guide, let's learn a few things about Light Format.

Battle Parameters

The parameters of a Light Format battle is as follows.

- Mode: CTF
- Battle Timer: 12m (10m battle time, 2m preparation time)
- Flag Timer = -
- Pro Battle: ON
- Upgrades: OFF
- Weapons Change: ON
- Bonus Boxes: ON
- Gold box : OFF
- Supplies: OFF
- Private Battle: ON
- Auto Balance: OFF
- Auto Finish: OFF
- Friendly Fire: ON*

* Unfortunately, this parameter was removed in the last update.

Maps

All the tournaments of Light Format are usually played in the following maps.

- Barda
- Bridges
- Kungur
- Parma
- Red Alert
- Tribute
- Forest

Equipment

All turrets must be Railgun, with the exception of one Smoky per team. Smoky must ONLY be mounted on light hulls, usually being mounted on Hornet. All hulls must be Hornet or Hunter, with the exception of one Viking and one Wasp per team, though the use of Viking in quite rare after the re-balance.

Paints

Paints also add a strategic element to a battle, especially in the field of defense. The following paints are considered as the most efficient for Light Format.

- Tundra
Tundra provides a good amount of protection against Railgun and a decent rate of protection against Smoky. It is is usually used by a Railgun+Hunter player.

- Digital
Digital provides an average amount of protection against smoky and much better against Railgun. It's texture helps the tank to blend in the vegetation. Even Digital is usually used by a Railgun+Hunter player.

- Savanna
Savanna provides a decent amount of protection against both Smoky and Railgun. It's texture helps in camouflage which makes the tank harder to spot. Savannah is usually used by a Railgun+Hunter player.

- Prodigi
Prodigy provides a whopping 46 points of protection against Railgun. A Railgun+Hunter player with prodigy is more than enough to put your opponents down.

- Needle
Last but not the least, Needle, provides a remarkable 48 points protection against Smoky. It is usually used by XP, BP and Smoky+Hornet/Wasp players.

The Host

Have you ever heard of Star Ladder? At least, most of you did. It was a company which signed to host Light Format tournaments of Tanki Online in the past. That is probably the reason why Light Format is also referred as SL Format.

The Guide

1. Join A Clan

Joining a Light Format clan is a fundamental and basic requirement. It provides an opportunity to learn more about Light Format and to put your theoretical knowledge into practice.

2. Choose Your Equipment

There are basically four combos you can choose between:

  • XP
  • BP
  • Railgun + Hunter
  • Smoky + Hornet/Wasp

Each combo has It's own significance, I will take up this topic in detail in my upcoming Issues.

Paints:

The total protection to be used by a team against Railgun must NOT exceed 100 points, on the other hand, the protection against smoky is NOT limited. I believe that the following combination is efficient.

Smoky + Hornet + Needle
Railgun + Hornet + Needle
Railgun + Wasp + Needle
Railgun + Hunter + Tundra
Railgun + Hunter + Savanna
Railgun + Hunter + Prodigy

The above combination provides a Brobdingnagian 97 points protection against Railgun and 195 points protection against Smoky. That's just perfect to steal your opponent's glory.

3. Train Hard

Once You choose what your equipment would be, train regularly.Get proper exposure by participating in Light Format tournaments with your team. Learn about strategies. Practice makes a tank perfect, that's what old rusty tanks suggest.

4. Maps And Choosing The Right Route

Maps are whole worlds created and brought to life by artists and mapmakers. Learn about different maps and develop strategies. I would suggest Red Alert and Parma for beginners as they involve diverse and challenging gameplay.
Choosing the right route to penetrate into the enemy base is another major factor which effects the gameplay. The right or to be more precise, correct route refers to the way which gives you more access to the bonus supply boxes. Hence, you will reach the enemy base with a bunch of power ups which is very beneficial.

5. Learn To Control Bonus Boxes

An interesting fact about the Bonus Boxes is that they fall at the average of every 2 minutes after getting picked up. This is an important difference because it allows additional strategy with timing of the bonus boxes. So, keep an eye on the time of every possible pick up.

6.Choosing Your Bonus Box

This is an other important factor with is ignored by majority of the players. Check your team mates and make sure the Bonus Box is picked up by the person who actually needs it.

7. Team Work and Establishing Voice Communication

Team work is very important: Passing flags, making strategies work etc. A team can do it's best with good communication among the players as it gives rice to additional strategic game play. A team with voice communication is obviously strong in terms of team work and stability. The most widely used applications for voice communication are Skype and Team Speak.

Ask The Community

Now we will be talking to few well-known Light Format players, they are going to share their opinion about Light Format.

: I believe that, Light Format is one of the most complicated formats, known for it's strategic and intelligent gameplay. It can only be mastered by great potential and hard work. First, learn about your team, their pros and cons and help them to get better. This would automatically lead to better stability and performance of the team.

: To me Light Format is a great format, consisting of purely skill and teamwork. It was once a great format, which was played lots, but as time passes light format is slowly fading away.

: Light format is the best thing I've ever had in my Tanki online career.I have participated in Am series which was hosted by Star ladder and it was so much fun and very popular back then.It takes lot of spirit and hard work to work with it. I hope Tanki Online promotes this wonderful format.

: Light Format requires lots of technique and teamwork. It completely depends on strategies and putting the significance of each combo into practice. I hope Tanki Online implements various steps to promote it.

That's it tankers! Let's all make sure this wonderful format does not come to an end.Feel free come up with your thoughts and suggestions about the article.I thank ,@rayaanMALHOTRA and for helping me with the orientation.

Good article, and I enjoyed it a lot. I'm still a little lost though over why play this format over  XP/BP, clan battles, or just normal battles, as all can have significant amounts of strategy as well.

Good work! Try making a few bigger paragraphs along with the factual information. This article was informative for me though, I didn't that much about LF. :)
