Which is that? I personally think, without any research, they won't take over the world, they will only have as much brains as humans have, or give it. It is not possible to give robots a brain of their own, really.

Not entirely, technically it is possible and the same can be done vice versa.... besides if you don't find it plausible, then add that as an argument in your debate article for the contest.

What if everyone defended the same side? I mean its not like that would happen, but it would be funny. I will write my entry in the next few days, it should be interesting to write about.

I know at least one person who's opposing me so you can keep that worry aside :P. Edited by beaku

Man v Machine, the theoretical takeover

With artificial intelligence (AI) technology progressing extremely quickly many people talk about 'AI takeover', although AI takeover is theoretically possible I don't think it will happen, robots always have to be told what to do, even in the case of IBM's Watson robot famously winning the Jeopardy quiz, it still had to be loaded with 4,000 gigabytes of data & be told to read it. On the contrary, fully developed humans don't strictly need to be taught at all; although we choose to do so for obvious reasons.

Robotic AI is also devoid of any emotion, that means they won't want to take over the world, the only way they will want to would be for someone to tell them "go take over", which isn't likely to happen. (See below)

This leads to the next part, (where it turns to fantasy) a human who wants to take over the world, they would build robots, order them to
takeover, the catch is other nations and people will defend themselves resulting in a human war, the robots will be destroyed. (Fantasy over)

Frankly AI will take away a huge amount of human tasks as it already has, self-driving vehicles have come a long way and will soon be the norm, many jobs that were done by manual labour are now done by robots, although most of the latter aren't AI at the moment; it's only a matter of time before they are.

In other words, ROBOTS WON'T TAKE OVER THE WORLD, so go cut your toenails, dream on.

That's all I have to say, feel free to dispute my opinion, shoutn'bawl about it. :)

I will edit this if I spot any mistakes until the contest end date.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but for this contest/debate you are supposed to submit your debate piece via PM to @Rhapsody_In_Blue. Also, it's a lot easier to type your debate piece on Microsoft Word since it will show in-corrections in grammar etc. and then copy and and paste it when it is corrected( it also shows word count).

Because I'm studying at one of the universities of Belgium, I'm having free access to all different sorts of articles you have to pay for. I'd like to make use of such an article, but you won't be able to read it unless you also have free access to it or if you want to pay $19.95. What should I do with it? I guess it's kinda illegal to just copy the text and send it to you so you can check for plagiarism.

Falco, why don't you screen shot the source article and upload the image to be used as a source?

Am I allowed to do that? I mean, you have to pay to read what's written in the article. Can I simply take screens of it?

By the way, I'll try not to use Dutch articles to make it easier for you. :p

As long as you're not distributing it freely, I think it's fine. (Let's hope NS isn't in any mood to do so either... XD)

I already have PM'ed him, just posted it to see what people thought of it. As for the grammar I have already checked it and it looks fine to me but am I missing something?

I have a question, sorry for being picky, but I just have to ask:

The debate question is if robots (specifically AI) will ever take over the world. But in what form of "take over the world" do you mean? The one with the robots physically crushing human life, or that robots take over the world by other indirect means such as taking over jobs and leaving people without money, destroying the economy etc? Or are both types of taking over the world acceptable to be written/debated about?
