It's not a mistake. It's an advertising trick used to make the game look better than it actually is. They aren't lying - they are just treating all modifications of turrets and hulls as separate items, which is technically corrrect, since they all have different in-game textures and have different parameters.

Just read what has been said above. If you buy all the items in your Garage and all their related modifications you will obtain such values:

• 28 hulls --> 7 hulls with M1, M2, M3 modifications
• 44 turrets --> 11 turrets with M0, M1, M2, M3 modifications

As you can see, it is just an advertising trick, I am not sure why should it bother you, you are already in the Game so how TO advertises its own businesses shouldn't be a problem for you :)
