Rank Number Eight To Use Chat?

Yeah making you have to be First Sargent to chat is a bad idea I mean if first time players need to ask questions how are they going to ask?!

Most information they need regarding the game they already have in Wiki pages, and all of their questions can be easily answered in Help pages. Simple :) Developers are already working on adjusting new players to that system...

Most information they need regarding the game they already have in Wiki pages, and all of their questions can be easily answered in Help pages. Simple :) Developers are already working on adjusting new players to that system...

To justify this poor decision, the single biggest reason cited by Tanki administration is that game play information is already "available in Wiki pages".

It's a poor excuse. And the end result is that it punishes many thousands of players for the actions of proportionally few.  Worse...it's a temporary fix. The moment trolls achieve M Sgt they'll start trolling verbally anyway. Sure their account *might* be banned. Creating a new one is free, easy and a couple clicks away. In a few days they'll be right back to the same old behaviors.

The is just another poor decision forced upon the Tanki community.  No vote, and no request for player opinions....especially the opinions of experienced players. As usual the overlords simply dictate the new rules.

Here's the immediate impact of the decision:

We can no longer provide advice to new players who need it most.

  • Players now sit upside down, sometimes for several minutes or more during a match, with flags that teammates cannot retrieve from them. Not only do the players not know that F releases the flag....their own teammates cannot tell them. A source of frustration for the entire team.
  • Players now sit upside down for significant portions of a match once they flip over. Not only do they not know how to self-destruct, other players cannot tell them how to do it.  So they occupy a spot on a team that could be occupied by an active player.  This is no different than having mults on a team. Again, this is frustrating to all members of the team.
  • Players use dropped supplies when they don't need them, depriving their teammates of these supplies. Or, they pass supplies by when they should use them. While I've seen this in higher ranks, it happens frequently in low rank matches. We can no longer explain to these players how to effectively use supplies.
  • Players can no longer communicate that they see an enemy flag carrier hiding, or where they are hiding with the flag. More frustration.
  • Players can no longer communicate enemy positions or travel....this is key to effectively working as a team. More frustration.

This list goes on and on.

The lack of communication available now in low ranks makes a challenging game even more difficult to the point of frustration.  Both for new players who cannot figure out what they're doing incorrectly, and the more experienced players who can no longer provide advice.

The answer is not a Wiki. Kids read wikis like their parents read account terms & conditions....that is to say they don't read them. It's a nice thought and significant time and effort goes into creating and maintaining a Wiki...but it's simply not the solution.  These kids need advice in real time while they're playing and while they're making mistakes. Experienced players are happy to provide it. But that option has been taken away.

Tanki needs to find a different solution. Perhaps one account per registered email to curb the number of users with multiple accounts, or some other similar measures.

I thought adding the laser to shaft was the most idiotic decision ever made by Tanki.  I was wrong. Eliminating the ability for new players to communicate is the most idiotic decision ever made by Tanki.

In some way I agree with you here. I started playing this game a few years ago, but I discovered Forum and Wiki about a year ago. At that time when I started I didn't knew anything about Forum, Wiki and chat moderator didn't had icons next to their nicknames.

But then again, now in chat newbies have the yellow text with explanations and instructions, which which helps a lot. That was not when I was a newbie. Maybe chat administrators have some "ace in the hole" or some ideas about this that they are still considering how to make know newbies with the use of chat and other aspects of the game and the community.

sounds promising.

There are always pro and cons about every decision. @jomama_tanker, I understand what you're saying but let me assure you that Tanki devs didn't decide things on their own - they did ask most experienced people on the chat - chat mods. It was our suggestion and this change indeed brought much needed break on the chat, and a much better overall environment for everyone.

As for the issues in the battles you've been talking about, info regarding self-destructing and other useful battle tips like this one are for years available to all players in info cards that are loading with the screen... if getting to Wiki is such a drag for them. I agree that real time suggestions can be more valuable but so is the peace of mind of our players, who have been constantly complaining about verbal offences in low rank battles. So with this change, we also provided some much needed time for new players to look around and adapt to their surroundings. As you said yourself, it's a matter of days until they get to the rank in which they'll be able to communicate with others so we hope that those first days will provide more insight about the game they started playing then learning how to let go of the flag. Those they'll get pretty soon. But we hope they'll gather more important view of the game first by simply playing it.

I honestly don't give a single crap about server chat, all server chat is people doing a bunch of name calling. But they never should have even touched battle chat, because sure battle chat is pretty bad, everyone trash talking and such, but server chat is where you get the scammers and the spammers, and honestly, the simple way to stop spammers is to ignore them, now I hate blocking people in any thing, but I just simply think, he will probably end up leaving the game, I'm going to list problems I've seen in public compared to in battle

Server chat

Scammers

Online daters

Spammers

Trash talkers

YouTube linkers

In-battle chat

Trash talk, and the simple way to deal with trash talkers is to use the ignore button, it's so easy to use, but people can't use it for some reason

lemme just get this straight. u are at a very low rank.do u know how small rank8 is compared to other ranks> it does not even make 0.1% of the total xp required till rank 30. its ok that u made 6 or 7 accs but playing 6 or 7 accs at the same time will get u no where. make  a few accs. try out the turrets and choose one or 2 combos to carry on with.although u think u dont spam but generally low rankers spam alot. even some high rankers make low ranked accs and easily rank to the level required to chat and spam. it only to 2 mins to rank to the last minimum rank for chat and it was used as an advantage for making spamming accs and getting banned and then making another one.let me repeat that rank 8 is a very low rank and is in no way unfair .its ur problem that ur trying to make one too many accs

I could not resist to answer these:

  • Players now sit upside down, sometimes for several minutes or more during a match, with flags that teammates cannot retrieve from them. Not only do the players not know that F releases the flag....their own teammates cannot tell them. A source of frustration for the entire team.
  • So I§m a newbie, just started playing. I try move - arrow keys, but I don't know what else can I do. Right next to the "Leave" button, there is a question mark. Pretty easy to understand. Click and you see description of everything. Also control of tank including "F" => drop flag.
  • On top of the upper help, when you flip over, a text will appear, saying that they can either try to unflip by recoil from their turret, or press "Delete" and continue playing.
  • Players use dropped supplies when they don't need them, depriving their teammates of these supplies. Or, they pass supplies by when they should use them. While I've seen this in higher ranks, it happens frequently in low rank matches. We can no longer explain to these players how to effectively use supplies.
  • Effective using of boxes. Respect to everyone who mastered it. It's not only "don't take heal, when you have full health" and "you already have speed boost, why take another?" To be honest, newbies are just learning, and I don't see anything wrong with it. However, maybe there should be some advices on how to use them with brain.
  • Players can no longer communicate that they see an enemy flag carrier hiding, or where they are hiding with the flag. More frustration.
  • Doesn't happen often, that I see players communicating much about flags, damage dealt, mine placed etc. Yes, you can often see shouts like "All to the point - go point", among higher ranks - to tell, where is flag hidden, for example in noise "behind the small house near flag" or some coodrinated attack. Just to repeat: they are newbies, do you expect them to play like championship winners?
  • Players can no longer communicate enemy positions or travel....this is key to effectively working as a team. More frustration.
  • Sorry, but I don't see much of effective team work in low rank battles. I have never seen, except for friends calling or simply playing together - their aim was to win - as a TEAM. Writing in chat takes time - and it's hard to explain all enemie's moves, even high ranked players do so in few short words.

And now about wiki and help site. Whenever I didn't know something about any game I have ever played - I used google or found that game's site and corresponding wiki. And I did so also few years ago, when I was younger. However, there is a truth in your words, more links and better guides could help newbies - or at least teach them how to use forum or helpsite.

The problem with every game / forum I've been to is that those registered are too lazy to search for answers... why when they can ask the same question over and over again and someone will for sure provide. Our job as chat mods is to also teach players to rely more on resources available to them: there are other helpers in this game apart from chat mods and they are doing great job updating Wiki pages to keep them relevant as well as maintaining Help section for players... What's the point if no one uses such resources?

That's why I have suggested something for the Forum, regarding the repeatedly questions. And its been considered.

Well Put Ostrica. I was looking to also complain about the rank needed to chat but after reading what you had to say I fully understand why Tanki has decided to leave it at it. Thank you for clearing this up

So, does anyone know that some players in the higher ranks make alternate accounts to "re-live" the Recruit to Generalissimo experience? Maybe Tanki could design a different "Chat Code" for each player Master Sergeant or above, so that when they make a new account, they could input this code (maybe a 20 digit code in this format: ####-####-####-####-####) using a chat command like "/chat (20 digit code with dashes)" and then that player can use chat, even when they are below Master Sergeant. This would alleviate the issues with having smart teammates play poorly in teams or having events- such as no-kill parkour. I, myself, am I tactician who needs to use chat whenever available to aid my teammates. Some novice tankers might listen and perform!

Notice:

I understand that this would be incredibly difficult to develop, having said that about 5 000 000 accounts have been made. If this is a great idea that would be implemented, please notify me and, as always, Good Luck!

Wafzal , that wouldnt be a good idea as scammers are everywhere and every rank. By making this rule you are basicly doing the exact opposite of what tanki wanted to happen. If scammers were to get banned , they would go right here and make new accounts to defy the rules of tanki and for theft of accounts for " offering free crystals". Although not as much people would be tricked , Master Sergant isn't a high enough rank for people to relize that there are scammers. I had personal experience for this. I was almost tricked into giving my account away to a scammer who made a really belivable story and I was the rank of WO4. ( I wish to become a moderator in the future. )

Yeah, you really have to watch out for social engineering attempts by players. If a link is sent to you, always check the URL before inputting any login info.

well, i barely EVER see moderators in servers 6-11, they dont eed to make chat more resticted, they need to get more chat mods

They can't just "get mode chat mods". Becoming a chat moderator is a voluntary action and unfortunately there are very few decent applicants out of everyone who wants to apply. The only way to increase the number of mods without lowering moderation quality is by simply waiting for qualified people to apply.

Not to go off topic but I've just applied for a forum moderator. :)
