I saw an idea by haraxx tv featuring shaft beams in stadium map as disco laser strobe lights, like the ones found in a dj party. Would that be an acceptable option or is it plagarism of some sort?

As stated in the rules, you can use ideas for your core image but make sure your picture is visibly different or unique.
