===UPDATED 13:30 UTC July 14th - Info about Champion, Silver, Bronze, Acid, Star, Helper Paints===

Hi everyone,

Quick update about what will be happening to the Champion, Silver, Bronze, Acid, Star and Helper Paints.

The current owners of these paints will be receiving Protection Modules as follows:

  • Owners of the Champion Paint will receive a module with 25% resistances against all turrets and mines
  • Owners of the Silver Paint will receive a module with 20% resistances against all turrets and mines
  • Owners of the Bronze Paint will receive a module with 15% resistances against all turrets and mines
  • Owners of the Acid Paint will receive a module with 20% resistances against all turrets and mines
  • Owners of the Star Paint will receive a module with 15% resistances against all turrets and mines
  • Owners of the Helper Paint will receive a module with 20% resistances against all turrets and mines

Important points to note:

Before the update, the Champion, Silver, Bronze, Acid and Helper paints were temporarily awarded to players who held a specific position or status in the game (e.g. eSports champion or Helper), and were removed from a player’s garage once that player no longer held that status or position.

The corresponding Protection Modules mentioned above will work in exactly the same way. Once the player’s special status is removed, the corresponding special Protection Module will also be removed from that player’s garage.

Over the next 24-48 hours, we’ll be going through the player database and assigning these special Protection Modules to current owners of these paints.

Answers to your most asked questions :

NOTE: This FAQ is being curated by forum moderators

Q: What will happen to my paints? I have Microupgrades on them, I don't want to lose them!

A: Don't worry! All your current paints have been split in two, a module and a paint. You still have the looks of the paint, and you now get a module that contains EXACTLY the protections you had on that paint.  Check the 799da0fb.png tab in your garage

Q: If I put a module on a paint, can I change it later or does it stay forever?

A: You can change it as much as you want.  These are considered separate items in the game now.  You can even attach the legacy Prodigi module to your tank while wearing Sakura now.

Q: Will it be possible to chose the protections you want in your module, or will they be presets like paint protections now?

A: You won't be able to pick and choose which protections a module will have. Protections are set by the developers in each module with regards to overall game balance.  Rest assured though, there's a wide variety available.

Q: Will the paints' prices depend on their beauty or camouflage?

A: Beauty. After the update, the only purpose that paints will serve is making you look amazing and perhaps help somewhat in camouflage. If you prefer to use the camouflage aspect of a paint to get a tactical advantage - you are in luck, because most paints with the best camouflage are relatively cheap.

Q: Will the paints be more or less expensive than now?

A: Both.  Depending on their looks and appeal some have seen their prices increase while most others have seen a decrease.

Q: Will kits contain paints, modules, or both? (or none?)

A: Some kits might contain only a paint (no protection). Some might only contain the module (no paint). Other kits might have both paints and modules.  As usual, kits will periodically get refreshed to offer tankers some bargains for buying items in a kit rather than individually.
Update :  A new batch of kits will be rolled out during the next coming week to adapt them to the new update.  All the details will be posted in due time.

Q: Will I be able to buy my favorite paints after the update?

A: Yes you will be able to buy it and apply it to any tank you wish.  Do note that a paint is only a visual element from now on.  For protection against weapons of the enemy, you'll need to buy a module separately, or equip any one of the legacy ones you already have in your garage.

Q: Will modules be upgradable?

A: Each module will have 3 levels of modifications, M1, M2 and M3. All these modifications will be Microupgradable.

Q: How about XP/BP?

A: Good news for XP/BP players! Now if you have a M2 Wasp or M2 Hornet the system will automatically equip the protection for you, even if you don't have any sort of Rail-protection module in your garage, and incase you are wearing one that has more protection the system will reduce it accordingly. However, it should be noted that now M2 Wasp will equip 10% (instead of the previous 20%) and M3 Wasp will not be able to equip any sort of protection. This was done to balance XP/BP games.

Q: What is the maximum protection a module can offer from a single turret?

A: 35% for a default M3 module, which can be upgraded to 50% with Microupgrades

Q: If it's 35%, won't people that have legacy modules like Prodigi (which has 48% from Rail) get an advantage in Pro battles where MUs are off?

A: Not necessarily and here's why: It's true that the new modules will provide only 35% but it's going to provide 35% from 3 turrets, so if you think of it, you might be better off with a new module than with Prodigi's legacy module which only protects from Rail decently and not so well against other turrets.  The choice will be yours to make in battle.  Good Luck

Q: What will happen to eSport paints like Silver, Champion or the Helper paint?

In their case the corresponding Protection Modules mentioned above will work in exactly the same way as before. Once these players' are no longer eligible for these special items, the corresponding paint as well as the special Protection Module will be removed from that player’s garage.

Q: What about other paints not mentioned in the above, such as veteran or cobalt?

These paints from now on will be classified as Status Paints.  They won't have any protection modules attached to them but they will still be a rare exclusivity that only a few hardcore fighters will be able to unlock.

Q: Why is there so much lag after the update?

This is most likely caused by tens of thousands of players constantly switching between lobby, battles and garage to figure out how the new update works. The lag should gradually subside as players get used to the new system.

A few known issues :
Tankers, we're listening and thanks for your invaluable feedback on a couple few things we missed out on. Rest assured, we will soon be addressing each one of them. Here's a little list :

  • There is no information about the module micro-upgrades.
The Wiki and other usual sources will be updated.  Its a lengthy process. It will all be available soon on this page.

  • The R key is at an inconvenient location on the keyboard, suggested other alternative keys be added.
  • The R key needs to be held down constantly to be able to read the info. Make an on/off switch for it (the only way to do it right now is by using the Alt trick)
We'll look into the mechanics of that process and see how we can better tune it to enhance the game play.  We'll keep you posted about any decisions and solutions we come up with.  In the mean time do keep posting your suggestions.

  • Impossible to see which module you currently have equipped
  • In-game popup while holding down the R key being too hard to read if there is too many players in one area (overlapping)
We're looking for ways to refine this interface in upcoming updates, although at this point in time there is no certain information we can share with you about this issue. We'll publish more info when we get more info from game designers and developers.

  • Impossible to tell what protection enemies have from far away. Particularly problematic for Shaft and Railgun
This is not a bug.  Its meant to be that way and this is a defining characteristic of long distance warfare in tanki.  If you recall even before the update although it was possible for long range shooters to determine the protection from a paint it was never very effective over longer distances, not to mention you'd never guess MicroUpgrade value on the paints back then.  Tanki is a very dynamic and relatively short game, nothing remains long distance too long and we've accounted for that.  We're confident long range gunners will adapt very quickly.

  • The modules have nearly identical names, such as Kodiak T-A and Kodiak T-B have a one-letter difference and 2 completely different sets of protections.
At the moment there is no alternative naming system. This variation was chosen to avoid having 200 individual names to remember. If we see any better alternatives suggested by players - we will take them into consideration.

  • Will the modules be shown in our profiles?
  • Why did the paints disappear from profiles?
We are currently reworking profiles page.  The paints will be back in profiles and we might add modules there as well. There is a general aim to add more useful and interesting information to the profiles, so future updates are likely to happen there.

  • Will there be a module with Smoky, Railgun and Thunder protection?
  • Will there be personal discounts on modules?
  • Will there be a sale on all remaining modules after I buy a few of them?
New modules will be gradually added to the garage. And yes, we will even add certain new modules if a lot of players request the same combination. Personal and wholesale discounts do not apply to modules at the moment and are not planned. We first need to see how the update affects the game's economy before making further changes.

  • Why can't Wasp M3 use 10% protection in XP/BP battles? (Format battles)
To restore some balance.  Any experienced XP/BP player knows how overpowered Wasp was in this context.  With this update XP/BP players will now have a choice between a slower, sliding but ever so slightly more resilient tank or picking a smaller, faster, more nimble Wasp that always undergo the risk of being a 1 shot target.

Additionally, some great news for amateur players - there is no longer any need for them to purchase a 10% or 20% protection module to participate in these format battles. If you have Wasp M2 or Hornet M2, you will automatically be given 10 or 20% protection respectively even if you currently have no Railgun modules purchased in your garage, or if the module you have equipped has more than the required protection. The game will automatically adjusts the protection level for you and completely takes away from the long process of having to change paint when shifting to and from format battles.

  • Thy is there a need to show the tank's modification using yellow bars? Every player at middle ranks and above is able to tell the modifications apart by the tank's design, so why the unnecessary information?
The information is useful for beginners, or those players climbing ranks and getting to see new designs of tanks and turrets and it helps them to acclimate to these changes much more swiftly throughout their progressing career.  This aspect of the update is mostly aimed at them.
  • What do the LGC, T-A, T-B, T-C, T-J and other acronyms on modules mean?
LGC means Legacy. After that there is a number. This is needed to avoid having two identical items in the garage, so for example after the update there is a paint called Forester and a module called Forester LGC-1

T-A, T-B, T-C - those are markings of new modules. It's composite: the first letter tells the number of protections in the module (Single, Double, Triple) and the second letter is made to differentiate between the modules in the same set by giving them an alphabetical order. They can be referred to as the modules' serial numbers.

The names of the modules define the module type. All Ocelot modules are for close-range combat. All Eagle modules are for long range. The rest of the modules are named according to a similar principle. We're already in process of updating these new game information on our wiki and forums and they'll be there soon.

Awesome update!

Just one request for now: Add two separate modules for XP/BP format - one with 10% from Rail and one with 20%, so that players with Wasp and Hornet M2 will be able to access XP/BP battles easier. Or just make it so that modules are completely unnecessary for entering format battles and the protection is applied automatically depending on what hull you have.

And a few changes for the R key would help:

  • Fix the fact that the display gets too messy when pressing R with a lot of enemies in front of you
  • Make it so the R key works after death and while respawning (i.e. all the time), because those few seconds are the best time to check players' stats
  • Remove the info banners for teammates (or make it possible to disable them in settings), because most players don't really want or need to know what their own team has.

Nice, I've tested it on the Test Server. It's quite expensive though if the prices are the same.

How will a Railgun/Shaft or any other long-range weapon be able to see what protection his opponent (at the other side of Dusseldorf for example) has.

So basically the special paints lose their protection? That's a pity.

So, Tundra with no rail protection, that's gonna be fun and maybe a little confusing on the start

But looking forward to this update :D

So if I have MU's on Emerald, I can't add any new protections other than Thunder, Railgun, and Twins? Or will those MU's be on the paint, but I can add other protections in the module system?

I think you can have maximum of 3 protections, but you can choose which ones.

Don't do this or give us refund. You are really going to ruin the game just to earn more money.

How is it ruining the game?

Very cool update, just one question:  Why would some paints become more expensive when all that is happening to them is the removal of their protection?
