Paint Separation Update

@falcosenna1, it would be nice if you could appreciate that we're already taking steps towards correcting the issues that are being raised by the community. As I've already said many times in this thread, we have the feedback and we're doing our best to argue in favor of what players want.

I'm actually one of the few who do appreciate it and who do believe that devs read, listen to and adapt updates according to our feedback. :) I know my posts of the last days don't give that impression, but I was just defending the players. My sincere apologies. Don't take me wrong. :)

In my country there is a saying : " What one fool made, not even 10 smart can fix " and in this case ,not even 179 pages can not fix this update ..

Don't apologise for sticking up for yourself, others and the game. You wouldn't go into a shop and say, "Your new product is not up to scratch and I was very disappointed - my sincere apologies", then cower and cringe as you back-out towards the door. No, you'd find the biggest wet fish you could get your hands on and proceed to thrash it around the shop assistant's face and neck, shouting, "Get your act together!"

i'm a kit buyer and now it's useless to have kits at cheap price. i was going to buy bulldozer next week. but now with emerald costing 370k it's useless to buy, that too without protection element.

idk why you found this thing useful.

It has been said somewhere that paint modules will replace paint elements in product kits very soon.

Hey there,
So, first off, I’ve no official ties with the management, and hence, no definite idea as to what their intention was behind the release of this update.
I’m only in position of rationally addressing your concern. So here it goes:
The key points of your argument followed by my response:

This update is purely to make money.

AlternativaPlatform (developer of the game) is not a non-profit organization. Besides funding is “especially important to them at the moment because of the drastic drop in people partaking in the game and buying.” Thereby, your first point is valid to an extent that the game wants money. The argument should end there. But an update is not a consequence of developer’s evil-thinking, rather a fruit of days’ worth of effort in drafting, organizing, and implementation of ideas - which cannot “purely” be for money. An update is released with an initiative that it will continue to benefit all the parties involved in the business. Every business has long-term goal but calling upon its own downfall is not one of them!

The developers do not care about what people think as long as that does not interfere with making money.

From some official responses as I have seen so far, there is work being done to resolve all the disagreement. Thus, this renders your argument invalid. Secondly, what value does your argument, for instance, and other complaining spams in general offer to developers to “care”? I mean literally this is how I as a developer would comprehend it: “We don’t care about what other people think as long as that does not interfere with us making money”. On the contrary, it only inspires a chain of cursing and profane comments further hindering the valuable feedback that would otherwise provide developers something to care about.

Clearly, there had been some misunderstanding during the development which led to all the legitimate issues we have now. Considering the majority of audience Tanki has, the development process should be handled more delicately, taking into account all the necessary feedback for an update to prevent sudden confliction following its official release.

I can only request that before your respond think about whether it will contribute to the productive discussion we have established now. And use spoilers if you intend to continue this conversation

Wait, so let me get this straight, because I am not prepared to read 180 pages of whining. The update basically separated paints from their protection so that paints are now aesthetic items and you need protection modules for weapon resistances? And people are loosing their ** over it? Why?

Here's a link for a Poll asking how much crystals would u be willing to spend on paints. Participation appreciated. Thx.

http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=328328

Well quite obviously everyone will want it for free, its not the players who set the price its the dev team that deals with the in-game currency finances, to make sure we don't end up with a really cheap and OP paint that everyone will end up using. Hence the need for a rebalance.

For example take a paint that used to cost 250k with protections and all.

After the update you pay 500k for the paint itself plus another 500k for the protections

Fair enough, just wait for the devs to reduce the prices then

The poll contradicts this.

True, what I meant was that people would want it as cheap as possible without considerations of the effect on the currency. Hence why over 30% of people voted between 0 and 5000 crystals.

Although I enjoy the change for what it is, the update feels unfinished and rough. Now all that needs to be done is to re-scale the prices on paints so that they are sensible. Which, as I understand it, is already being considered. Many people are accusing this update as being a crystal trap; which, the only currently unfair prices are purely for cosmetics, so that doesn't make too much sense. -- Anyway, most of the controversy seems overblown and unnecessary. But, there is a fine line in game development where the intentions turn from the art and fun of the game, and towards the money alone. I think Tanki is far from that point, but even then I can understand how some are willing to jump all over Tanki's death.

All in all the new updates have been good conceptually, but have been somewhat lacking in practice. My only wish is that the developers would take their time and make sure that everything is balanced and fine-tuned before release. As the saying goes: "The costumer is always right." So if people don't like the new changes, they simply leave and hurt business. If the goal is to improve the game; then they should at least listen to the players.

I'm not saying that they haven't. In fact, they have some of the best available communications with players out there. Despite this, updates always seem to drive players away. I, myself, am usually passive to them, as they all seem to be very moderate. But people will always hate change just for the sake of hating change. The same problems cropped up throughout 2014-15 when drugs were nerfed and gold boxes were fixed. Heh, people went ballistic when crystal boxes were removed. My point is, that this is probably going to tun out harmless and people will get used to it. As always.

Oh, and sorry for the text wall.

You know the devs. They don't really care

If it costs more people will pay them for more crystals

Kits are being reworked because of this, so don't worry about the current prices too much!

Of course. That's what I'm trying to do too. My role is to argue FOR the players and bring their perspective to the devs. But my role also involves seeing the devs' perspective and trying to explain the sense of it to players.

Programmers are paid for the skills with ones and zeroes (so to speak), not for their skills in human interaction. That's where the CM team comes in.

I assure you we're trying our best to find a "place" where this update is good for everyone — for the players, and ALSO for the business, because ultimately, if the business falls, so does the game, and that means the players won't have Tanki Online anymore. Sure, there are loads of games out there, but we'd like to think you love Tanki Online enough for it to be worth keeping afloat, no?  :)

Yeah, I understand your feeling. I must admit I had this feeling in the past too, though I've changed my thoughts about that. Of course developers have their own vision on the future of their game and have things already planned for the future, but there's a reason why we're given the opportunity to discuss updates, there's a reason why Cedric asked several times to give useful feedback instead of just saying that you dislike the update. There's a reason for having a community manager, someone who's the bridge between us and the developing team.

I know Cedric. That's why I wrote this comment a few pages back. :)

OH THANK GOD! I was panicking that my beloved Stormbringer would end up costing like 900k! Edited by Marc

Why BP doesn't have protection anymore?

That is big problem because I am BP player(M3 Wasp/M3 Rail) and a lot of times I get 1 shoted, please fix that. I can't play with 10% protection anymore.

There is no use of this last update if it doesn't help players.

FIX IT PLEASE!

This was explained a few pages back. The protection on Wasp was making the Hornet format obsolete. Wasp is powerful enough with its speed and maneuverability.

Wasps got flipped over easily, that's why many players preferred hornet... Now wasp is absolutely useless for XP/BP

At least give wasp protection in BP only battles

Hi all,

Just a reminder that there's a pretty extensive FAQ section in this thread in the following post #3 and post #4.

If you have any questions, please check out those posts first.

Also, if you have any objections or comments on anything in those posts, please quote the relevant section of that post, together with your counter-argument. This will help us understand better what your point is.
