Fewer Modal Dialogs - A better approach to game setup

Recommended Posts

i waste a lot of time on Tanki NOT playing Tanki.

Here's an example:

After logging in, I realize I don't recall in what configuration I left my tank so I:

= Switch to Garage.

Ah! Mammoth and Rail with Rail/Shaft/Thunder protection.  Okay...

= Switch to Battles

Oh wait.  I forgot to check the missions.

= Switch to Missions

Okay, there's a CTF I'd like to finish up

= Switch to Battles

Hmm.  I was looking for something like Brest where my long range weapon would be helpful - but all I see is Cologne.

= Switch to another server

Nope.  Nothing useful here either.  Well, there IS a Brest CTF, but the rank range is 3 steps higher than me and I'm looking to complete a mission - not get slaughtered.

= Switch to garage.  Okay, now I'm reconfigured for Cologne.  Hammer.  Firebird/Hammer/Freeze protection.

= Switch to the server that had the Cologne mission.  Dang!  It timed out waiting for new players.

= Switch to another server.  Now all I see is LONG RANGE stuff!  ARRGH!

Okay, I'll go with this Serpuhov CTF

= Switch to the game

Oh hell!   I don't have any armor boxes!

= Switch to garage.

= Switch to supplies

Buy supplies

= Return to game

Okay!  Now I'm ready to fire my FIRST SHOT!

Alternative scenario:

Roll over status icon

Display:
Tank Configuration: (The first four items are pull-down menus)
Mammoth M2 12/50
Rail M2 8/50
Protections Rail: 12 Shaft: 5 Thunder: 8
Paint: In Love
Supplies: Repair: 12  Speed: 2716 Armor: 0  Damage 8

Missions:
CTF  12/300
Repair Boxes 2/5
1st in Battle 0/2

Mission Matches:
Server  Mission Ranks Time   Slots
3  Rio CTF  WO4-2LT   12:12   4
3  Brest CTF 2LT-COL   11:19  2
3  Cologne CTF WO1-2LT  1:15   1

New Procedure:
Roll over status summary icon
Okay, I can see that there are 3 battles that match my mission profile. I think I'll play Cologne.  But I don't want to do it with a Rail and Mammoth.
*click*drag* on Mammoth, select "Hornet"
*click*drag* on Rail, select "Hammer"
*click*drag* on protections, select "Firebird: 15 Freeze:12 Hammer: 11"
Oh, I see I'm out of Armor (it's red) and low on Double Damage (yellow) Guess I better buy more (clicking on either takes you directly to a dialog to purchase more of the item)
Rollover status summary icon
Oh!  I see the Cologne game is OVER and everyone left.
But now here's the  mission matching update:

Mission Matches:
Server  Mission Ranks Time   Slots
3  Rio CTF  WO4-2LT   9:12   4
3  Brest CTF 2LT-COL   8:19  2
4  Cologne CTF WO2-2LT  14:15   2

Cologne on server 4 looks like a good match.  (click)  And I'm there!

What was over 12 different page loads and nearly twice as many clicks is reduced to a half dozen mouse clicks and a couple page loads AND the player can see at a glance what games match his missions, regardless of server.

And if you want to change equipment during a battle, rolling over the same icon and choosing the new equipment instead of having to leave the battle and go to the garage would be a lot simpler and faster.

I don't know about other players - but I like to PLAY Tanki - not waste time waiting for pages to load and clicking back and forth to get things set up.

A lot of these features are planned, but developers either don't have them on their priority list, or they simply aren't able to add it to the current game due to the game engine's technical limitations. Apparently the interface will be a lot more convenient in Tanki X, and improvements will be gradually done to Tanki Online too, when the time comes.

Sounds interesting.but i really dont mind looking through my 3 main servers ( EN3-5) and i always know what my combo most likely is .XP with either blue and my Fracture module or Isida Hornet with Storm and my Fracture Module or Storm module

The new interface is more compact, more user-friendly, and has ability to navigate using the keyboard. Also, a lot of the issues like having to switch servers and being forced to do missions on specific maps have been solved a long time ago.
