A Lieutenant's perspective - Silence

Hey there to all tankers! As some of you probably know by now, this is my third article in the series "A lieutenant's perspective." After some comments that I should do an article on maps or Tanki combinations, I decided to write about one of Tanki's most deluxe maps- Silence! As usual, please do feel free to share comments and criticism on my article & writing style; and on what topic to write about next. Please enjoy....

                  A Lieutenant's perspective - SILENCE

Introduction:

The well know Silence map..a beauty to behold, balanced, unique, and very fun to play in! This map in my opinion is just plain awesome and has many different strategies that can be employed for both Red and Blue teams, for both Noobs and Pros. For both short range turrets, long range turrets, and both heavy and light hulls! This map is unlocked at First Sergeant, meaning by now you should be in the M1s gameplay. It can host a total of 20 players, making this a map for some possible high funds and extreme gameplay supporting all game modes! It is 26m by 24m with a total of 696m of battle map. So, about the size of an average map, not too big, not too small. Yet with the different levels and stories of height combined with tunnel gameplay and numerous ramps, Silence is like a mini combination of Madness, Courage, Sandbox and features of other maps combined! It appeared in the game on April 23rd, 2010 and originally had 3 different versions, Silence, Silence II, and Moon Silence! Silence II and Silence were quite alike and were eventually combined. Moon Silence was also like Silence, except with no Gravity!! This made gameplay extremely interesting but was removed due to the abundance of hackers      :(

The Map itself:

Here is a skyview of Silence, for this article, I'll be dividing the map into several different zones as you can see.

Defense:

In Silence, I find that defending the blue base is an absolute dream. It's perfect! By placing a mine or two on each of the ramps, plus a mine defending your Grey position will make it impossible to approach from the North. When defending the South, mines will do the job as well. But since its a more open space, more will be necessary and an enemy tank may manage to slip through. Put a last few mines on the position rather East of Blue to prevent them from jumping down to Green Zone and you are on the go! Equipping Vulcan or twins with Mammoth/Titan and having a friendly Isida with you will finish of the trick as now you can eliminate enemies coming up from the tunnel or trying to kill you in Black Zone. I would recommend actually camping on the flag with a Double Damage (leave the Double Armor on the South Ramp to your attackers) and have your Isida camp in grey zone healing you, yet still out of range of most thunders and rails. Having a fellow teammate equip a dictator-freeze would also be good if you haven't yet had the time necessary to dig in your heels with mines, as he has good health + speed to freeze and hose down those sneaky wasps.

Attacking:

Due to the fact that Blue base can be defended with only 3 tankers, that leaves 7 more open and free. I would recommend 4 midfielders and 3 full-blooded attackers. Your attackers should be wearing Wasp/Hornet (not Viking yet as we are still in the M1/M2 ranks and Viking is still particularly slow..)  along with a close range turret like Fire, Hammer, or maybe Freeze if they have heavy defenders you want to freeze. Note that Freeze takes of Firebird's burn and vice versa, so don't attack at the same time or you will cancel out the effects. Going in two by two with a Hornet Hammer and a Fire Wasp would be my ideal combo, as Firebird can rush in and damage as many defenders as possible by circling around them (also can be done with freeze) before dying. Your Hammer, with Hornet equipped, as M2 unlocks early and has more health, can then rush in dealing damage with three high powered shots, takes the flag then rushes away.

Which routes should you take to maximize your performance? I would suggest that by going through Black zone to purple would be ideal, as you have a double damage, and a speed boost on your route. Leave the double damage to your "path burner" and the speed to the person who will actually be taking the flag. Both of you should quickly flip on the "4" key so as to maximize performance. However watch out for defenders on the small platform between green zone and red zone as they could potentially flip you when taking off ramp that leaves black zone. After doubling round the building in the far North-East corner, wait for your fellow tanker to aggravate and destroy the defenders first, before zooming in to take the flag. There is a health box in green zone, but as it puts you in the line of fire from fires, freezes, and other tanks who will be chasing your back, I would suggest not going for it UNLESS, you are critically damaged or if there are no enemy tanks in sight. Zooming up the South ramp and into your base is the quick idea, and the best, if you have your midfielders coming in to aid and cover you, but I personally like to enter into the tunnel which leaves green base, (sorry I didn't get the tunnels done onto the map picture..) and comes out into the black base, dropping a mine in there to prevent buzzing bees following me. Then its up home into Blue Zone and capture!

Midfielding is an important step here. Controlling the green zone is essential to the team's win. I would suggest camping out on the purple zone's higher elevation as this gives you a clear view of green zone and you can support your teammates trying to cap the flag. Another good spot is on the Southern ramp, just make sure you give free access to your teammates. Another good spot is the small gap and ramp that connects a shortcut from green to black. A Thunder/Viking here is especially good and annoying to the enemy as you have visual into their base and can take cover behind the houses. Just remember to not block your teammates!! On NO ACCOUNT should you ever take a Mammoth and camp up in blue base, blocking the jump down to green. This is EXTREMELY annoying for those who are trying to get down to quickly aid a flag capture, or who are trying to rescue a taken flag. Just. Don't. Ever. Do. It. In my opinion, Shaft isn't the best weapon for Blue, whilst it can be used sufficiently for Red. Blue just doesn't have any space to shoot! For midfielding I would suggest taking Viking, Dictator, or Hunter. Smoky, Thunder, or Isida. Smoky and thunder can deal heavy damage to the opposition, whilst Isida can heal them, therefore making them more effective.

Gold boxes:

MMMMMmmmmmmmm......MMMMMMmmmm.......goes that sudden siren, and everybody in view starting hacking their way through  friend and foe alike to find that drop zone. In Silence Gold Boxes are extremely interesting, due to the numerous tunnels and the fact that golds can drop in some very well hidden places....first things first, here's all the known drop zone locations. Pretty much every location should be on this map. In not, then remember I'm a noob with no knowledge of golds  :P

On Silence, catching golds is definitely an advantage if you are on Blue team. I would recommend Self Destructing whilst searching around in the Black & Blue zones. If its not there, then I would suggest going to the edge of the Blue Zone overlooking Green Zone, to see where groups of tankers are/ where the gold is falling.

You will of course have to take the risk that It won't fall in either the tunnel or under the purple ramp, but since these are only two out of 2 dozen gold box locations, I wouldn't worry too much about that. As you can see, there are also gold drops in the grey zones. If you see a gold dropping in the Eastern Grey Zone, jump off and go there immediately. Unless you have a speed boost you won't get there on time. In Silence, its all about the timing...

Whilst Dictator is the notorious gold hunter, for this map I would suggest Wasp or Hornet. You'll need to cover a good amount of space or you'll never ever find that gold location. For the turret it doesn't really matter, just watch that you don't get flipped!

you could of course do some flippin' yourself...

DM:

Death Match Mode in this map is extremely fun to play. Finding your own best-performance turret & hull combination is essential. However I've listed the turrets I think are best suited to the performance of this map.

1. Thunder

2. Ricochet

3. Twins

4. Railgun

5. Firebird

6. Hammer

Isida, Freeze, and Shaft are definitely not good DM weapons here and I would highly recommend you do not use them. Thunder came first due to its moderate reload time and splash damage, plus the fact its a long range turret making this the perfect place to move about kill-stealing.

Ricochet is pretty good here on Hornet, as you can reach nearly anywhere that a long range turret can, except in grey and green Zones. The rebounding effect also aids in chasing an enemy that scarpered into a tunnel.

Twins on a heavy hull can varnish your enemies into pieces when you camp in Blue or green zone. Green zone exposes you to long range turrets a bit more, but Twins is definitely a good camping weapon here.

Railgun-Wasp. What else can I say? Its beuuutiful :P

Firebird has the ability to burn then run away, meaning if you see a lone scout - go for him! Firebird is also a good thing to have equipped when groups of tanks are in your way. BURN!!!!

Hammer is placed 6th mainly because it's an all rounder. A double damage on this turret is super duper powerful as it can kill Hornets and Wasps and sometimes Hunters in one shot provided they aren't protected against you.

Thats all for today folks....I was too lazy to put the work into making suggestions for red team, since I nearly always play for blue and don't exactly have the most computer time in the universe...I also don't get paid for my 2 hours of work so please bear with me on that ;)  My next article will probs be a shorter one on the various updates on Tanki, before I finish off the series in article 5 with a combo of my choice. Hope you enjoyed!

-Spelling and grammar edits.

-Please capitalize the names of turrets and hulls consistently.

Will tr to do so in the future...thanks for reading through the whole thing and looking at each and every word, must have been tedious :P
