1 vs 1 battles, do they prove skills?

What do you think, can 1 vs 1 battles show how skilled you are at this game? Do they determine who is the best? Why so or why not?

If so, which equipment/map/game mode (if any) would be the most suitable to use?

No mud throwing please, that always makes such a mess.

Nope, since there are "Team players" and "Solo players"  and if a Solo player challenges Team player, OFC he will win, since he is more skilled to play alone and other way 'round

Only if it's 1v1 on 999 flag Dusseldorf with mammoth isida m0. All other duel formats are fake and prove nothing.

I personally don't really like duels.. they're quite pointless and all about "I stand alone" kinda deal.

If you somehow get ahead in one way from your opponent; you kill him first, you can time his spawn and keep him one shot(mostly). Which is pretty lame and unskillful. I mean, how hard can it be to focus on ONE guy? Not much.... just learn some dodge tricks, time opponent's spawns & make the opponent miss is quite more than enough to get you a capture. Which I find really boring to do with just one opponent. typical XP duel

Plus if you manage to kill your opponent in a small map being in his/her base, his/her spawn time will be enough to let you cap safely most of the times. Which is the "upper hand" of duels.

Duels are all about luck imo

The way to determine if you have skill in a 1v1 battle dan146_tanker style:

1.) The map must be either Duality CTF or Duel TDM.

2.) No lagging, insulting, leaving early or ''drugging'' allowed (pickups don't count as ''drugs'') .

3.) All equipment is allowed.

It's more impressive if you can beat some ego-blimp XP/BP player that spews "XAXAXAXA hy6qwghueqhue" from every orifice using Titan-Railgun.

That combination rewards timing, skillful management of cover, positioning, and knowing your enemy's patterns. It also promotes accuracy, since the whole "Every shot counts!" thing is even more present here: If you miss one shot it can mean life or death, and while your extra armor will let you survive an onslaught, you can't correct yourself if they manage to stay out of your reach and you can't juke them.

Technically it is not, but you really are not showing "pure" skill if you get a kill with anything that enhances your tank's capabilities...now destroying a foe that has enhanced tank capabilities without enhancing your tank's capabilities is a demonstration of "pure" skill.

No, 1v1 doesn't prove anything, what really counts is teamwork and your team is only as strong as it's weakest link. If you're 1v1 skill is amazing, but your teamwork is crap, then that weakest link is you.

1v1 does not prove anything to those who are too scared to get in one. THAT is the bottom line. I have had many of the so-called "great and bad -a" players refuse to 1v1 because they don't want to be embarrassed.

I have to agree with you.

1 v 1's don't really prove much about the skill of  player. A player who can carry his whole team to victory is more skilled in my eyes. Most 1v1's or rather duels are affected by the ping's of the players. I have often heard (and experienced  ) people saying 'hey I shot first!!1!!1!'. So Team battles are the way to be known professional IMO.

One who can lead himself to victory in a 1v1 can also lead his team to victory.

I disagree on that one. I have seen players winning almost every 1v1 they do, but when they join team battles. They end up saying noob team and leave.
