Best way to master XP/BP...

The only real way to learn is through experience. I say go for it, if anything you have a decent kit.

It's a bit hard to decide, because I would need to set aside some cash since that account is practically empty of crystals lol.

Xp/Bp skills won't come naturally. You need to play and enjoy Red alert, BArda, kunger etc. maps to become a pro at it. If u have tried it for more than half year actively then u can expect to play very well.

Half of the year? That's far too long.

Here's how Iearned: I made a smaller account with the main combo being Dictator or Titan-Rail, it makes you unbelievably slow and aiming accurately is a requirement. If you want to also focus on when and where cover is useful, use Titan, it practically REQUIRES cover.

If you want to learn to dodge shots and know when to advance while the enemy is reloading, use Dictator, it's added armor is nothing without using the maneuverability to get within an easy firing range.

I still wonder if I should get XP (Tornado kit) on my 2nd Lieutenant Alt to practice XP in Non Format battles, but ranking to major requires some effort

And the feel between M2 rail and M3 is somewhat different...

I just brought the tornado kit for pratice with a friend. I will be getting BP at colonel.

So far so good, there are more large maps at lower ranks than higher ranks.

How do I counter another Rail moving side by side?

Not much you can do to make an enemy miss you see. I would say bump into him (use lag hax) or take sudden awkward brakes n turns Edited by Cyborg

Naw, you ease yourself into it.

With restrictions on speed, you learn to operate with accuracy and learn to position yourself correctly. Those are key tactics, and once you master them you can move on to evasion and advanced maneuvering.

Try moving as close as possible to him to where your turret's end just barely sticks out, then charge, stop, turn to face him, and you should hit him before he can react. And if he does you'll be out of the position so you can reposition.

do what I've done . use XP as your main combo .use Duels as practice. (2v2s are even better) try to find non format XP BP battles (most common are Sandbox CTFs and Kunger CTFs from my experience) this is what I've done so far and I've got fairly good skills to my standards . I'm no Star Series champion but I can hold my own (and keep a decent DL) in a 3v3 non format Sandbox CTF XP battle)

To make em' miss?

Easy, ram into them with only a corner of your hull to the front or back end of them.

It should make them face left or right, and if timed right they'll have no way to recover and aim back.

I don't understand why everyone.e says that ramming is the best tactic to knock off someone's aim. I've tried that and fail every time ( speed boost. M2 hornet at full speed .ram the about to shoot Railgun in the corner of their hull and he still hits me)

Aim Practice

AIM, 1 (camping, midrange)

For your aiming skills you can start out on sandbox, as this is a nice midrange map.

Camp behind a corner and aim at the house at the opposite lane. Pop out with your tank to hit the house and get back into cover. If you got better hit the smaller part of the hosue; if you got better aim for the windows;... and so on. Also aim at the opposing edge of the central structure, there where the enemies tanks are camping usually. Shoot the wall behind your "target", and then try to get your succedding shots as close as possible to your inital impact point in the wall

Of course you have to "disalign/move" you rail a little left or right after each shot, so you have to aim each time again.

Once you can hit well, work on your timing to get your "exposure" time as short as possible.

AIM, 2 (moving, midrange)

while driving circles around the outer section of sandbox, hit bushes far away while you are on full speed. Not only those right infront of your tank, but also the ones a little more to the left or right.

First hit them.. and if you mastered that, aim for their edges: Get one round shooting all bushes at the right edge, get another round aiming on all bushes at their left edge. Make sure you aim for bushes far away; so that soon your drive+aim skill will imrpoove a lot.

Also make those shots where you drive until you reach a corner and then shot a bush far away around the corner. You can to this in every break during a sandbox game (but if enemies are here just use your own base and do not circle the whole map).

AIM, 3 (upwards, downwards)

Drive around at the outer, lower section of the sandbox and aim for the tower and billboards.

Once you have mastered that, aim for the pillars the billboards are standing on (yes, those tiny, slimm pillars). This can also be done in every brake.

Also drive on the central platform structre towards the edges and imagine you are shooting a tank at the lower level, rights next to the edge. If you lack a tank as a target, then just assure that your shot impact points on the ground come closer and closer to the edge, as this is a good indication to do it right.

AIM, 4 (camping, longrane (Parma))

Get on the side lanes of Parma (the short ones) and chose for a structure on the other end. Camp somewhere and hit the structure on the other side at the desired edge. Aim a couple of times on the same.. then aim the next edge or next structure. If you master those long range shots, you are fine with midrange camping too.

AIM, 5 (ramps)

start at the lower end of a ramp, accelerate up while you trigger the shot, brake hard close to the edge to tilt your tank forwrd and to give a good horizontal shot. The vertical autoaim of railgun will help you to hit a real tank; in your practice you just have to make sure to hit more or less horizontally.

Practice that a lot, it will proove worth it

Tactics

Tactics, 1 (1-Shot rule)

I guess I dont need to tell you, that it is most basic in XP/BP to 1shot incoming enemies _while_ they are incoming (far away); you reload in your cover, and so they can be finished easily once they come close or get the flag.

Same goes for defenders.. make em 1shot on large distance; so that your attackers have an easier chance

If a defender is 1shot he should move forward into an attack support role; and a fresh respawned player should take his defense position.

Tactics, 2 (Battle field awareness)

Most players excel because they have a high awareness of their surroundings. They know that 2 tanks are incoming left, where 1 of them is most likely 1shot.. They know that the enemy has 2 defenders are where they are and that one midrange sniper is currently downed. How do they know that?

> They look around and drive with open eyes.

If moving along a path towards the enemy base you can turn your turret sideways and move the camera up a little and watch the battlefield.

You see your own teams names, you see some shots.. and so you can clue what happens around there.

Practise this form of driving (drive fwd while looking sideways).

Tactics, 3 (Battle field awareness)

Play a defensive role; or play an attack-support-sniper role for quite some time on the same maps.

In this positions you _have_to_ focus on what happens, while you are not distracted with your own driving.

While doing so, look around a lot and check the enemy positions: Where are they? Where are they aiming to? For what targets do they wait? What are the main routes of my attackers, when are they axposed and which defender is going to hit them? Anticipate this moment and deflect the defenders shot then ;)

Play this roles a lot to learn about the maps and the basic attack tactics (by watching others using them)

Tactics, 4 (Basic defense)

Don't stand in the last line, at the very rear end of the map. Thats the worst position you can get. If they come, then you are trapped and have nowhere to retreat backwards.

It is better to chose a def position a litttttle bit more forward. The most important thing is that you have to see your surroundings and spot attackers at incoming routes.

If someone attacks it is your job to place 1shot at incoming enemies as early (as far away) as you can to that. If only one comes around you can most likely reload and finish him off before he reaches you.

If you can only place a midrange shot ( => you will lack reload time); or if strong attackers come in, then make your first shot and then retreat 1 building back; they come in your base and have to expose themselfes -> and then you finish them off.

If two enemies are incoming close to each other try to hit the second tank first; retreat 1 building back to survive and reload; then shot the first tank (he gets/got the flag). Both escape but someone else will finsh off the flagrunner soon thereafter.. maybe even you get a nice shot at him. When the flagrunner is downed half way home, the second tank takes over his flag - the tank, that you made already 1shot in advance.. so he has no chance either ;)

If two enemies come in, and you know you won't make it to a nice retreat and they will for sure kill you, then give them a shot, hide, and shortly before they pass by your cover move out in their way to block them - or try to get killed right on your flagspot. As soon as they kill you your dead weight tank is still here and either blocks them right away or protects the flag for 2 more seconds. On some maps you can give them a shot, drive around your defensive structure and let them get the flag.. and once they come back to escape and take you out, just move right infront of them. Good attackers wont miss you anyways.. so make a good use of your dead tank and block their escape route. (this works grat on Red Alert, blue team, single rock infront of flag. You can def behind this rock, and if too many come in from the right side you can evade to the spot between the rock and the elevated central platform. Once they escape though the center, block them up completely, while someone will spawn in your base and shoot them from behind)

If you defend the left entry of the base/map, take out a couple of tanks, and suddenly noone comes around any more? Must be a coffee break!

Noo.... they just come up from the other side now! But don't (!!!) leave your base entry unguarded! Definitely move slighty forward to attack support position on your side. From there you can cover/spot/monitor your entrance as well.. but at the same time you can make a benefit to your team.

Tactics, 5 (Battlefield awareness, weighted positions)

Check where your mates are. If three attack on the right, you go for the left. The enemies that hide from your mates will look towards them; while you come around behind the enemies back and place some niiiiiiice shots.

If they see you, and come for you just survive to keep them busy. This gives your team room to get a flag.

Giving your team the time and an area free from shots is more important then to finish off single tanks.

MAke as many of them 1shot if you can. If your teammates come home with the flag and the enemy team counterattacks, they will be 1shot - thanks to you ;)

This is escpecially needed in Sandbox. Imagine each team has the other teams flag.. and 3 of your team move out to attack while your flagrunner keeps home, hiding behind the corner as usual.

If your attackers move in from the left + center, then your teams flagrunner has to move to the right edge. Why? Your teams attack pushes _their_ flagrunner around the right corner, as this is the only place for him to hide from their shots - and now _your_ teams flagrunner can take him out easily with almost no risk ;)

Always look for this kind of balance. Please note it is not "2left, 2 right"; it is "mainforce on 1side - and support on the other" ;)

Tactics, 6 (Attack)

Rushing attacks of single tanks works against weaker, uncoordinated teams.. or if you have fixed and awesome attack support snipers, that keep the enemies defense busy and distract them from incoming rushing attackers. In almost every other case you have to move in in groups. Don't stick too close to each other, distribute a little..

If your first attacker does not take the first best entry into the enemy base but moves to a flank first, he can seriously put their def in trouble: he gives them 1 shot and hides not completely behind some cover. This lures their defender to shot at him (and he can move behind cover completely as soon as their rail charges..). Now the defender is 1shot and is in his reload phase, so the second attacker can move in an finish him off. Obvisously this works best if both attacker do not take the completely same route in.. because then the def would spot both. A certain amount of concealment helps.

In attack it is important to know whom to shoot:

- it is important to make as most of them 1shot, so you have more chances on the next run (or you buddy behind finishes them off; works great too)

- if you get a shot, dont necessarily shoot back the same guy. Maybe you see another tank that turns around because he has just noticed you; then aim close to him, wait 1 second so he can decide to shoot you; but you trigger your shot first, aim the last little bit and hit him - chances are good you deflect his shot somewhere else.

Feel free to hide behind their base now _without_ a flag - the defenders will hunt you - while the second attacker can move in and get the flag. Either they finish you off now > meaning they have to reload to take out the flag > which gives your buddy 5..8 seconds of escape.

Or they let you alive > and turn away to hunt down the flag immediatly > which means you take them out from behind.

Know which of them is the next one to shoot, and take him out first while you already drive towards the other one; the first one will miss becuase you shoot him; the second one will miss as you ram him full force and turn his tank around by yours.

If you are def, then you learn a lot from the attackers that trick you out.

Tactics, 7 (Attack)

Patience and timing rules.

Tactics, 8 (Blend into your team)

If you see your whole team defends, do the same. Or move a little forward and lure their defenders, so your defenders can take em out. But don't attack ( = dont die useless). Just put slightly preassure on them.. so they dont feel too comfortable to rush all over at once. A defender that sees no enemy for 1 minute might consider to attack. If all of them do this simultaniously, your team is in trouble.. at least with their second wave of attack 30sec later.

Or move into a forward sniping position to be prepared for their attack; in order to weaken as many of them as you can if their patience ends first and they decide to come over and pay your base a visit.

If you see your team's most experiecnd attacker moves in, join him. He has decided the timing is right; and now go and support him.

So you have to observe your teams movements. Don't stick too close, but be sure to watch what he is doing, so you can learn from him.

If you see that noone in your team does something usefull at all.. then you do defense. Then at least you are doing something usefull ;)

Tactics, 9 (Once you are good at basic skills and patience, dont go for 1vs1 battles any more)

don't play 1vs1 if you want to become a better teamplayer. Some love it.. ok, good for them. It might actually also help you in situations where you chase around/in-between houses, or as 1def-vs-1attcher, .. but you can learn far more from playing teambattles.

As an example (and please take no offense!!!):

most players that play mainly 1vs1 tend to reach the enemies base and there they start to have a long timed showdown with the single defender. They might win this showdown after some time.. but usually don' think about the limited time they have for an attack. So they will be "suprised :o" by new tanks spawning in the enemy base (yes, it is _their_ home..); then they will be torn appart brutally :(; and then they write something like "3vs1 -.-" <_< in the chat.

Well yes, dear guys who write those lines: tanki is a _teamsport_. If they come "3vs1" on you at any place of the battlefield, that does not mean that they are unfair, it means that they have played their cards as a team better and created an advantage for them ;)

As said.. 1vs1 are good for those who like it.. but a teamplay takes additional skills too, and a different view on tactics.

Map specifics (learn maps)

Map specifics, 1 (covered flag running)

If running back home with the flag, you have to keep in cover as good as you can. Check which grounds are save from enemy fire and sight and move through them. The direct route is not necessarily the best.. memorize where their def sits around and take a rounte in an out that protects you from their angle of fire.

Sometimes, if only one defender hunts you, you can pretend to take the "left route" and he will move "right route" to intercept you later. But as soon as he made his choice, you stop, turn around and come back and follow him "right route". While he awaits to see you infront of him, you take him out from behind, pass by and deliver the flag.

Map specifics, 2 (driving backwards (drive home while looking towards enemy))

Learn to drive the routes, where your teams flagrunner deliver the flags home to your base, backwards. Backwards mean you face your rail towards the enemy base, while you are heading/racing - somehow blindfold - back to your base. This way you can protect yourself more easily.

Watch ground marks (roads, grass, no grass...) - they give you good indications when which obstacle comes your way or to find your way up a ramp.

Map specifics, 3 (Sweet shots)

Take your time on your favorite map, and check all those nice obstacles around. Find out, which awesome shots you can make.. Tanki maps are geniously crafted and open up so many possibilities to take out enemy tanks across the whole map.

Learn - for each enemies def position - where you have to move/flank around, to take him out.. or at least make his life harder. Sometimes it is enough if you move to his flank, far away, and give 1 shot close to him. If he gives you his attention, and you bounce your tanks butt out of cover from time to time, your attacking teammate can pass by undiscovered.

You can even make your railgun work on other targets that have not yet noticed you (effective), while he tries to get you (ineffective). This shifts power to your teams advantage

Map specifics, 4 (House runs)

Barda, Red base, small brown twin houses: move around them, between them, change directions - as fast as you can. Practice also with Nitro if you want to play battles with drops.

Beeing superiour in such situations can save your ass quite a lot of times; because usually the tank that gets stuck first, dies first.

Map specifics, 5 (Make use of Spawn areas)

Lets take Barda as an example for this one:

If you are a flagrunner from red team and you made your way home with their flag to your own base.. but in the meanwhile your own flag was taken.. then you have to surivive. But where to hide? The best places are usually close to the spawn areas of your own team (Barda red -> big yellow house and elevated platform on the left corner; opposite from the flagpoint).

If you get in trouble or become low, chances are high that a mate spawns close to you and can help.

If you wait close to the flagspot, then all your teams guys who spawn and come to aid you, have to pass the long way back from the spawn to the flagpoint.. and will get 1shot too. You basically end up with a team full of 1shot persons.. which is the best way to loose a flag.

Same guide applies for attackers:

If you attack, dont go through the enemies spawn areas.. chances are high somone will shoot your back or pop up right infront of you. Also on your way back home with their flag - try to prevent their spawnareas as good as you can.

It is also perfect for attack supporters or defenders:

If you have clear sight on their spawn area, give them a hard time as much as you can. Be prepared that they will come for you after a minute or two (shot incoming, retreat, keep em busy - while they come for you, your team can get their flag and come back as a team and not just as single flagrunner ;))

Final hint - count the seconds

This one helps me out sooooo many times:

Know the reload time if a rail M3, and count down the seconds in your mind.

So you know when you can shot again without looking at the bar; and more imporant: you know when your enemy is going to shoot again!

If you finished off the last defender while attacking, know that it takes him about 12sec to respawn or shoot again

I often move in when there is just one def and I get 1shot by him. I pass by his defensive structure/wapll/house and I do not shot him (now). I simply continue to get the flag, while in my mind I am counting the seconds since his first shot.

Shortly before his reload time is over, THEN I give him the shot that I spared up for now, just to see his rail charging up as his tank is rocked away by my hit ;)

Patience rules, even for rushers ;)

You can do this only 2..3 times for each enemy.. then they learn. Then you need to wait 1..2 extra seconds.. they get nervous and shoot just to see that your rail has finally again light up before theirs :P -  and again.. deflected ;)

It works also great if you stand off with another defnder or longrange sniper. First you wait until he shoots anyone.. then you count down his reload time. 2 seconds before it is over, you stick your butt out of your hideout, so he can see you.. you continue to count down the remaining reload time, and trigger your shot - move a little more and let your shot fly.. right into his face, whom he used that 2 sec to prepare, aim.. and wanted to hit you after his reload was finished.

You have to assure, that your railgun's nosetip does not stick out through the wall of your hideout.

This also works the other way around. As sniper (def or attack support) you should not shoot every time your reload time has finished. If your shooting frequency is perdictable, someone will make use of it, and you will ride right into their fire the next time you try to shoot. They can count your seconds too ;)

no hint.. but usefull maybe

If you use dynamic lightning you can see the rails charge up even if they are hidden in a solid object.. dynamic lightning will simply illuminate the area around him, once he triggered then shot.

This is the very most effective useage of this "beauty" feature.

so on Parma you can see them charging up; then trigger the shot yourself and move out to hit them.

The trace of a railgun in the air, that stays for about 1 second does not hurt!!!

If the trace is visible next to you then move in/out immediatly!! The shot has already passed you some milliseconds ago.. but now it is your best chance to hit your enemy ;)

Good luck - and.. dont forget to enjoy the game ;)

ps: More tactical hints from pro-attackers are welcome!

Have a read

Hi 2000mc,

do you maybe know who wrote that nice article that you copied here?

I just give it a rushed read, and I found two mistakes that the author might want to change

1. wasps acceleration is inferior to hornet; so the hornet has the edge in move-shot.move or doding manovers

2. The theoretical chance of beeing 1shot it calculated wrong, as the distribution of railgungs damage output is not linear but follows a gauss like distribution (medium damage is far more likely then low+high range damage). So the chance for beeing 1shot is far less then the given percentage

Hit them by the sides not in the middle to make them not shot u. Or shoot them with enough impact to make the shot go over them.

The secret to make them shoot over you is to hit their towerturret.

If you hit an enemies tower it will make his Tank raise far enough to lift his shot over you. You also have a nice chance to flip him over, if you lift him up and his own Railguns recoil does the rest ;)

Some Hornets can conter that by braking hard.. Hornets good brake force and high weight keep their nose down.. sometimes it works.. but not always (maybe the reson why it works is just lag.. I cant tell.. but whatever - it works sometimes)

In principle it is best to aim for the towerturret all times (small target, but aim small targets to learn to hit better).

The only usefull thing of hitting their sides is when you want to make them crush into a wall.

If you are chased and hunted by someone and both of you pass between pillars of a bridge; through an ally of rocks or some other hard structure, then you can shot the front corner of his tank to make his tank turn right into the pillar and get stuck there unexpectedly.

The tower? You mean the place where their turret is being positioned?

yes, I meant the turret. I've just corrected it in my post above.

In my native language we use the same word for turret as for tower.. so sometimes I pick the wrong English word for it :p

Huh, I'm a complete noob at XP/BP but I think I've got a few things down:

- Practice alone sometimes

Yes, I know, it's fun to wreck and get rekt by opponents, but if you want more of the wrecking, individual practice at your own pace will work out better. However, you should still play normal XP/BP battles (duh)

- Play against PRO XP/BP players and ask them to point your mistakes out

If you wasted a shot on so-and-so because so-and-so and they tricked you so-and-so-way and you learn how to do the trick AND how to recognize it you'll be much better. Learn some common maneuvers and recognize enemies using them.

- One map at a time

I died trying to play Sadbox, Boombox, Garder, Parma, and Zone maps at the same time. Learn routes for each map, particularly the bigger ones. Those are harder. Learn your way around the more common maps and give rarer maps (cough cough Boombox) a rest. The first map I'd start with mastering is Sandbox or Red Alert. Barda and Parma are good ones, not to mention Zone.

You know I`m good at XP/BP :P

My skill is artificial :P I was once a sad noob who MUed his awesome M0 ricochet and m0 hornet at WO5 then I discovered that tankers make youtube videos and got addicted to watching Pizzy and Recon. Anyways IMO I think you should first use railgun with every hull in the game, then use hornet and wasp with every turret in the game, then use XP and BP for at least a month each, while using wasp and hornet, learn to juke ( I actually got mad serious and now every time a railgun fires up I count to 2 or 3 and then I immediately move my tank to the opposite direction I was going ) . and while using railgun you should learn to time your shots, sharpen your aim, and enhance your strategy, also you should play on maps such as sandbox ( usually used for practicing timing ) parma ( for timing and aim ) and zone ( for aim ) although there are more maps that are good for XP/BP and all of them require timing and aim.

It's been a while since I tried this mode and always find it difficult to play. It's fun but I also keep missing shots while trying to "outdodge the enemy". I always find my timing to be off track, hence I decided to make this topic. Silly it may be.

Some may say, the best way is to learn dodging and attack is to play in large maps like Barda and Red Alert. I have tried those and ended up with poor scores as I had no idea where the shots come from.

Some may say, I should watch YouTube videos from "pros". However, its full of 1 X 1s, and not much group battles. It's hard to copy another style.

Some may say, I should continue what I do best to master the skill I.e, playing in Sandbox, Zone, Garder, etc. But I still do not see much significant improvement.

Playing with Clan is good but my timezones are terribly awkward so its out nor I like to speak over the microphone.

I feel really stuck. I want to move forward but I can't. =/

Ultimately my wish is to be better in large and small maps XP with friends. Unfortunately, Polygon XP CP wouldn't help with it so much.

~From an XP/BP nub.

Lol, Looks Like I gotta teach you all over again XD
