Hulls' "Abilities"

Recommended Posts

This topic is kinda already gonna happen. It was revealed sort of in a round about way by hazel that it would.

He wouldn't give the details as it is gonna be a while before it happens...

^ I actually like hull abilities, because they seem to make a bigger effect in the game and bring in more variety into the game than hull alterations.  ;)

The thing is, they constrict people. What if they like hornet, but they like Wasp's ability? Alterations don't do that.

I think that the purpose of the hull changes in the rebalance was to standardize the hulls, in this way, that there are not many differences left between the hulls of one category, so it pretty much should prevent this wish that you described. In my opinion, the main differentiator within a category will be the unique ability of the hull.

This is something that was being discussed on the RU ideas site a while ago (and still is, actually, although it has been marked as [started] for over a year). I really like this idea, but at the moment developers seem to be determined to not add any new keys to turret or hull controls. Although if it's something like a supply, which you only press once to activate it, then perhaps it may be added.

I even have my own set of proposed unique abilities, which I posted numerous times in the RU community and maybe even here. Although mine are more of a short "burst" of power that lasts for a few seconds and has a rather long recharge:

Wasp - hyper-speed and acceleration (around 300% increase) for 2-3 seconds.

Hornet - small jump ability once every 10-15 seconds. Would be useful for jumping over enemy tanks or over small gaps.

Hunter - ability to turn back on its tracks after getting flipped. Once per life.

Dictator - complete negation of enemy turrets' knockback for a few seconds every minute.

Viking - ability to drive over any other tank once every 30 seconds. Or ability to shift sideways.

Titan - complete negation of other tanks' weight (and therefore ability to drive through any pile of tanks, pushing them away) or ability to stand still and become immovable.

Mammoth - invulnerability for a few seconds.

So yeah, that's my version of abilities. Obviously every single thing like this would require a LOT of testing and adjusting, but the fact that hulls need something to spice them up is most definitely true.

Hornets ability to jump onto tanks and over small gaps every 10 - 15 seconds would make it the most used hull in the game. Also the Anti-Cheat system would have to be changed Becuase you could be jumping into the self-destruct zone. Everything else I would love to see.

I don't like the idea. Abilities would confuse the gameplay.

A cool idea, at least I think, would be to add alterations to some of the hulls. Like for these hulls (at least these are some I thought of)...

Mammoth -- Less health (hit points) and more speed.

Hunter -- Less weight and more speed

Dictator -- Less power and more speed

... those are just the ones I thought of. :P

So, Tanki has kept adding new turrets, and I believe that Tanki will keep adding more turrets, because there are so many potential ways to inflict damage.  However, in my opinion, it will be quite difficult to add new hulls to Tanki.  So, to add another dimension to the game, I propose on giving each hull a special supply that can only be used with that hull.

This supply should be a one-time purchase in the garage, just like turret alterations, however, it should be a one time purchase of perhaps 10,000 crystals.

Hull-specific supplies should either augment the abilities of a hull or shore up the weaknesses of a hull, but compromise other aspects of a tank so that the do not unbalance the game.

For example, Wasp could have an ability called Hypersonic, which would drastically increase its speed at the cost of something else (decreasing health more seems harsh on wasp, perhaps make other supplies inaccessible for the duration of the supply).

Hornet could have an Assault Mode, increasing damage and armor but decreasing speed.

Viking could have a Beserker mode, increasing both damage and speed, but causing the tank to receive more damage while the supply is activated.

Hunter could have a Sniper Mode, possibly increasing damage slightly, and increasing range, but also increasing reload time.

Dictator could have a Commander supply, increasing damage, speed, and armor slightly while disabling all other supplies.

Titan could have a Bulldozer supply, increasing speed, armor, and power but decreasing armor slightly.

Perhaps Mammoth could have a Fortress Mode, increasing armor but moving slower and inflicting less damage.

Yes, these ideas need balanced, and everything needs a percentage or a value!  Tell me if this is a good idea, and if you have suggestions, please post them!

Like turret alterations, I think we should have many choices to choose from for our favorite hull in terms of character. Like for example: as you all know, I like to use my thunder with my Viking, but I really hate how easily it can get knocked all over the place, and I don't really care for the speed.

You may ask "why not get a different hull?" And my answer to the question is this, "why should I get a less favorable hull just to get the desired stats when we could just have a feature that allows us to have our favorite hull with our desired stats embedded into it?

Now there will be two types of character; stats and special. First let's look at the stats characters. There will be three stats characters to choose from; Speed (max speed, acceleration, and turning speed), Health (armor), and Power (weight, and pushing power).

As for the special characters, that's anyone's guess what they'll be. And to make it a little interesting and yet still balanced, you may even be able to combine one stat character to one special character to your favorite hull.

I think this idea will make everyone happy

I'm pretty sure you're aware that hull alterations will not happen, or at least they are not planned. You are basically suggesting just that - options to select different stats for a hull by increasing one value and lowering another. And you mention "special characters" without explaining what they are, so I will assume that you mean special abilities, which is why I'm merging your idea here.

What's wrong with having our desired stats in our favorite hull? And I did not explain the special characters are, simply because I do not know what they will be. I can only think of some sort of effects like: my Viking could easily push any tank with ease, or I wish it could.

I don't know what wacky stuff the devs got planned, so as far as that goes, I'm clueless

What's wrong with having our desired stats in our favorite hull?

Mostly because it will mess with the gameplay. When you see a certain hull in the battle, you can estimate what kind of stats it has and play against that person accordingly. But if players will be allowed to change their stats, it will make it impossible to know what to expect from a particular hull when you see it. It's already happening with turret alterations, which can be rather annoying in some situations, when you don't know what kind of alteration the enemy has.

Which is why we need that info in the V and R keys.

Or in the profile system.

Developers will be adding unique Overdrives to each of the seven hulls, thus giving them all special abilities. Watch the latest V-log for details.

edit: key 7 is next to key 6. So, you can accidentally drop the Gold box :P

FYI: Key settings can be changed for this game by going into "Settings" (the gear icon at the top of the page). Example: I changed #6 drop gold box to #0 and deleted key 6 so I wouldn't accidently press #6 when I meant to press #5. You can have 3 different keystrokes for each action and either keep or delete the default settings.

Re-read it then, it's pretty detailed and clear :)

Instead of useless statements, a feedback or discussion would suit more.

Feedback: don't ruin the game.
