Announcing Tankionline Domination Series

Recommended Posts

Tankers,

Thank you for your patience.  We have just published the formats for Domination Series here.  That's right, Domination Series is coming in two flavors; Elite and Junior.  Elite category will cater for all the high rank clans with well loaded garages and even those who wish to engage in fierce hard-style battles with barely any restrictions applied.  The Junior category will cater for smaller or more recent clans with only M2 equipment in their arsenal.

These formats are being released prior to all other materials governing the tournament so that clans can already get accustomed to the formats and start practicing.  However, in light of imminent game balance changes in the coming weeks, the formats may slightly be altered.  We're monitoring the situation and will update you on any changes in this topic.

It is important to note that Domination Series is open only to clans which have an official topic in the Clans sections.  Registrations will be open on Friday 14th of October from 12:00 UTC and will close on Monday 17th of October at 12:00 UTC.  There will be no confirmation required after that.  However by the end of the first match day, all clans which did not show any activity will automatically be discarded from the series.

Stay tuned to this topic as we will be posting new materials everyday and we'll give you all the latest information here.  We'll also be opening a discussion topic at least a day before the start of the registrations.

In the mean time newcomers can get themselves acquainted with our Guides for Clans or they can apply to Join a Clan !

Tankers,

In view of impending changes to the game in the form of new balance updates, we have decided to push back the start of the tournament by a few more days.  We will instead open registrations on Thursday 20th of October from 12:00 UTC to Monday 24th of October at 23:59 UTC.

In the mean time we will make all necessary adjustments to the event rules based on the upcoming game changes.  We'll keep you updated in this topic and our usual announcement platforms.

Tankers,

We're finally here.  Registrations for the Domination Series are open and the prices are Juicy.  The top prize for the Elite Series is the highly sought-after Acid paint accompanied by the rare Spectrum M-B module.  The Dominating Junior Team will be able to enjoy the mighty Gladiator paint and a lot of crystals to share among themselves.

This is only the beginning though.  This first edition of the Domination Series will be followed by subsequent iterations with much bigger prizes, depending on how popular the event turns out to be, as well as different types of tournaments.

We have had to come back on quite a few of the plans we had laid down last week, hence the extra delay in opening of the registrations.  Some of these changes were due to the New balance changes and other features added to the game.  These are:

  • The addition of the Dictator-Railgun format for the Elite Series.
  • Revision of the mandatory Self-Destruct time in the hard format from 15:20 to 15:15
  • Addition of Viking to Light format
  • The prohibition of M3 equipment from the Junior Series (not really a change, we just forgot to mention it before)

There are also a few changes to the core eSports Rules of our community which we will be publishing very soon.  However one of the biggest change will be the one affecting clans.  We had to scrap our "English Community Clans Only" limitation in order to be more fair to all players of the game wishing to have a chance at grabbing these rare and exclusive prizes.  Nevertheless we have not forgotten our first and second goals and we have a different plan for our cherished clans.  You can read more about that in our Special note to clans here.

Tankers,

Thank you all for your interest in the Domination Series.  We have been blessed with so many of you seeking information about it and talking with us over the past week.  In spite of this though we have noticed there hasn't been as much of a turn out as we expected in the registrations, particularly in the Junior Series.  Our team set out to speak with several of you and its quite clear that for some reasons the message did not come across as expected.  We ought to do a much better job on the communications side, specially since there even was many of our regulars who were not fully aware of the Domination Series.

As you can see in the rules, we made provisions for up to 128 teams per category.  We don't expect to get 128 outright, but anything past the halfway line is desirable.  Elite series is not too far off at this point in time.  However the Junior Series is at an abysmal low.  Making a tournament for millions of crystals and special paints is not something anyone wants to do with less than 32 registered teams.  At one point we even considered aborting the Junior Series, but that would not have been fair for any of the registered teams, clans and the community at large.  Therefore we have decided to extend the registrations period by another week to give a chance to more teams to sign in.  In the mean time we'll be reaching out to as many players as we can throughout the community on as many information channels we can get at our disposal.  This will also help out the Elite Series grow up larger and make the tournament much more worthy for all parties.

The new deadline and final deadline for registrations is now Monday 31st at 23:59 UTC.  We apologize for this extra delay to all our registered participants.  We remain confident it will be worth the wait though.

ps:  The final number of participants will dictate progression system to be used on the grid.  Low number will mean we will have to make the grid progression tougher, by using Double-Elimination systems or making wider groups, or a combination of such measures.

Fellow eSports enthusiasts,

A good few of you were keen on pointing out a few discrepancies in the set formats.  Below is a summary of changes we made:

  1. LIGHT format: Addition of Dictator and Viking.  Hull restriction changed from "Maximum 3 Hunters per team" to "Maximum of 3 medium hulls per team".

  2. MEDIUM format: Addition of Dictator.  Increased restriction on medium hulls from 2 to a maximum of 3 per team.

  3. PLASMA format: Removal of exclusion on Spectrum M-A, M-B and M-C modules.  Addition of prohibition on M3 Variants of Panther D-D, Lion T-B and Lion T-D modules.  Addition a 50% Maximum combined resistance against plasma weapons per player.

  4. HARD format: Addition of a restriction of no more than 3 Short-Range turrets per team.

More information about Equipment Classification here

The first and second changes are result of the new game balance which leveled all medium tanks and thus it no longer made sense to exclude Viking and Dictator from the formats.

The new game balance also allowed us to raise the limit on medium hulls in the medium format without any severe effects on the overall game flow.  So now team leaders can choose between an extra lighter, nimble tank or a bit more hit points on a slower tank.

The third change is due to an initial miscalculation on our side.  We fixed that now and we'd also like to clarify that Junior Series players can play the Plasma format with almost every modules in the game except the M3 versions of Panther D-D, Lion T-B and Lion T-D.  These are the only combinations that provide players with more than 50% of protection against plasma weapons.  The goal of the format is to not exceed that 50% limit.  We added this as a rule as well since it further emphasize on the format restrictions and has the added benefit of covering for any potential new modules that developers could come up with during the course of the tournament.

The above also means that Junior Series teams are now no longer limited to M2 modules only.  They can use M3 modules as long as they do not violate the format restrictions.  However their prohibition from usage of M3 Hulls and M3 Turrets remains in effect.

Spectrum M-A, M-B and M-C users can now also use their unique modules in light and plasma formats as applicable.  However their exclusion from the HARD format will remain.

Lastly, the addition of a restriction of no more than 3 short-range turrets in the HARD format became necessary because of the significant change in dynamics of short-range weapons.  These are further amplified with no limits on power-ups (drugs) and micro-upgrades.  It has been a hard challenge for us to agree on the final version for the HARD format and we are aware that some may not like this change.  Nevertheless we have to factor in various aspects of the tournament. A match with 4 isidas and 4 freezes does not make up for a good or fair challenge, nor a good stream and does in no way bring out the diversity of the game.

Do not despair though.  We are perfectly aware that a few clans out there seek the thrill of all-out wars and for them we will have something special to take care of their needs with the upcoming clan leagues system.
