[Declined] Supply Solution - Penalties

Supplies. They can make a Wasp seem like a Titan to kill, or make a shot from a Smokey feel like a Railgun's. They can change the course of a battle entirely, cause whole teams to abandon the game and flee and may even bring the most battle-hardened Veteran close to tears of rage.

                                            They definitely enhance your tank, but does mass-usage of supplies ruin the game?

 

Once a tanker has their hands on a large supply of these, they have relatively no cap or potential drawbacks for using these supplies. They have a small restraint (the cooldowns for the drugs) but according to the Vlog the cooldown times were going to be reduced in the upcoming update, and in some cases they were to be eradicated entirely.

 

Here is an idea that I think might reduce the devastating power of supplies.

 

Potential Solution: For each supply used, there will be a small penalty. This does not count for pickups.
The penalties would be point subtractions from the End game score.

 

It might be something like this...

 

Score Penalties:

Repair Kit = -4
Double Damage = -3
Double Armor = -3
Speed Boost = -2
Mine = -2

For Example: Say I use 3 repairs, 4 damage and 2 Armor in a Rio CTF I'd subtract 30 points from my final score. So obviously with the score decrease the reward will be affected as well.

This idea would cause people to me more cautious when drugging, as they will realize that they will be reducing their crystal rewards every time they activate a supply.

It will discourage massive drugging "wars" during battles which usually result in all the non-druggers being forced into quitting or risk being totally steamrolled.

What do you think? Could this make the supply situation worse or better?

As I said many times before, using supplies is not a bad thing. Players should not be discouraged from using supplies by penalties, but instead they should be given opportunities to easily get more supplies so that they can use them as much as they want. That way everyone will be able to drug non-stop and the only thing that would help a player win is their skill in managing smart cooldowns and combining supplies with drops. But penalty for using one of the biggest gameplay features simply doesn't make sense.

Viperspark dude. You admit you use supplies in other topics and you like them. Now you want to reduce them?!

Well since you want our opinions mine is to put more cooldowns. And yes I've said this in probably another topic. But supplies need more cooldowns. You press 2 and then you can press 1 straight after? And Tanki wonders why supplies are getting so much hate.... People if you press any number all supplies need to go on cooldown mode. That way less number spamming more skill spamming.

Wait, question, and pardon my ignorance. Are you declining an interesting idea because there is something in the rules about suggestions against limiting the use of supplies or because it does fit your personal philosophy of how the game should be played?

 

Again, excuse my ignorance. I know that the rules for suggestions were somewhere, but I can't find it.

Yes, it's true that I declined this idea based mostly on my own opinion and developers never actually said "we will not add penalties for using supplies". But the thing is, after so many years of playing the game, seeing the updates developers do, seeing their feedback and answers to question, I can pretty much look at the game from a developer's point of view. And I can tell you for a fact that they won't be adding penalties for supplies because in their opinion using a lot of supplies makes a player skilled, rather than unable to play "fair", i.e. without having to use supplies to gain an advantage. I hope that makes sense.

Think cooldowns are the problem? NON ONONOSNON (spam et cetera)

 

I'll tell you the problem.

 

Here, we have a scene:

 

Random thunder m3 *cough cough BLASTER872 choke choke splutter* plays against WO4.

He gets a double armor.

Drugs a double damage.

*5 hours later*

Fund: over 9000

Kills: over 9000 (ik very creative)

WO4: omg yes axaxaxa i'm about to kill him there are no repair kits around axaxa

*drugs hp*

WO4: IM OUT

 

1. Either supplies OR pickups only is balanced, Nobody can wreck me EVEN WITH DRUGGING when I have BOTH drugs on.

2. Well, partially cooldowns. Double DMG/DEF should put cooldown on HP kit imo.
