Welcome, tankers! Without further ado, here are the results of last month's first Map Renaissance contest.

Contest Results

Unfortunately, I must announce this month's renaissance contest did not go very well. The clue hunting mixed with the overall low popularity of the maps created a deadly combination and thus we were not able to find any winners. Despite the fact I am disappointed we won't distribute the contest prizes, this displeasing experience will hopefully help us improve next installments.

To compensate this failure to a certain degree, there are special prizes awaiting in the November's Map Renaissance contest.

For those of you interested in what the ciphered maps were, here are the solutions;

Map #1

Some of you deciphered this right away. The first clue was ciphered by an easy Caesar cipher. If you clicked on the link hidden in the dot in the word 'R.I.P.', another picture sprang up. Both these clues incite to Caesar cipher. This cipher unlocks the code written on the bust - 'PLAY CHERNOBYL'.

Map #2

Second clue contains a written message with a clue hidden in it. If you click on the link in the word 'stationary', you will open a picture from Station map. However, if you closely inspect the picture, you will find a sentence in the picture saying 'Better check twice'. This clearly hints to check for the right clue hidden in the text. After closer look, you will find out that the initial letters of every line create a title. Writing them all down will give you the head-line 'Revolutionary map changes'. If you google these words or check the Newspaper Archive you will blunder on this topic.  After some rolling down you will see one of my edited posts containing this message 'Watchful contestant; Hohenzollernbrücke'. If you do a little more googling you will find that Hohenzollernbrücke is a bridge in the city of COLOGNE.

Map #3

This one was probably the easiest. You can see a picture of Avocado food creation. The text below says that hinting that the main ingredient is important. the following sentence states; 'Oh and that appetizing green paint really helps, don't you think?'  You can see the message is intentionally written in various funky colors, but only few of the words are

in green color. If you read only the green-colored words, you will get the message 'Put k when searching'. Now since the main ingredient is Avocado (pronounced Avokado), and the clue hints to search this word, doing so will reveal that Avokado was a famous map designer who created MONTE CARLO and DUSSELDORF maps. The rarer one of them is probably Dusseldorf, but since this wasn't explicit enough, both maps would be accepted.

Map #4

Last clue might be a bit tricky, and at first sight unhelpful, but if you know the forum and pay attention to how things work, you will quickly learn that #12961 represents the number of the post. OK! This won't help you much, but abbrev 'GD' will guide you where to go. If you quickly check the Forum you will find out that abbrev 'GD' will most likely mean Game Discussion. Of course this section is pretty big, but only few topics have more than 12 000 posts (that's over 600 pages!). After some searching, you will find this post in the popular Gold Boxes topic.

It contains a simple Morse code that upon translating will give the link to this picture. The picture contains three actors, which all performed the role of Spartacus. If you check Spartacus and year 1991 mentioned on the picture and the Sweet inspiration clue placed over the Morse code, you will get the name of the band with single Sweet inspiration, coming from album named Spartacus released in 1991. The band is called The FARM.

Mini-giveaway Results

Each tanker below will receive a 5,000 crystal prize:

@ZRichard123

@shurlygoel

@Snootera

Congratulations to the giveaway winners! You'll receive your prizes on Monday, 7th November.

For everyone else, check out the latest installment of the contest here. I've noted the lack of winners for the October contest, and to make up for this I've created all-new competitive challenges that you'll definitely be able to win a lot of crystals for. Don't miss it!
