When you click on a link that isn't recognised by the forum as a TO link, you get a pop-up box

 

When clicking "I understand this risk", it opens the link in the same window. I was wondering the forum people could edit the code so that the link opens in a new tab

 

All they need to add is the target="_blank" to the link code and it will do it.

Yep, fully aware of that. 

The fact that everyone has a work around of this kinda suggests that it should be changed. It isn't a difficult fix as well, they only need to write 15 characters

With the new Forum engine, external/foreign links are now opened in a new browser tab, and risk confirmation is conveniently no longer needed.
