Automatic removal of serious laggers

 Share

Recommended Posts

Lagging is not deliberate. However, it's annoying and can be unfair to the team which has the lagging player (and sometimes even to the opposition), especially if the teams are small. I propose automatic removal of someone that is lagging really bad, maybe you create a "No-lag" PRO battle mode. I'm not sure if it's possible for coders to do that; But yes, it's a suggestion.

Under review

Kicking players because their internet is bad is not the way to go. Cheaters - yes, inactive players - yes, but forbidding players with poor internet to play Tanki Online definitely won't happen for all battles. As a setting for PRO battles - maybe, but still a very small chance of this being implemented.

I like this idea. If your computer or connection is that bad you can't really enjoy the game...you shouldn't really be playing Tanki, as it also is frustrating for your team and your opponents.  Ofc it would only remove REALLY bad laggers, so if your computer even has a noticable bad lag, it wouldn't merit being kicked...

Why would you allow laggers to play to the detriment of reliable players?

Because unlike CS:GO, Tanki doesn't have servers all around the globe.

I have a minimum ping of 150 and an average ping of around 220. That isn't caused by bad internet but my distance from the Tanki Servers.

As what some of you would define as a lagger, I can confidently say that we have it worse. We have 19 lagging tanks to shoot at as opposed to all you non-lagers only having to shoot at one lagging tank.

Other games on miniclip do have this feature, which is that if your ping is above 500 then your ability to join a battle will be taken away, but you can still chat and stuff. I don't know if its possible in this game.

I wouldn't love this.. I myself get high ping sometimes (especially sudden high ping for  a second or two). Like I play with a ping of 80-100 but at some moment it gets as high as 700 and then in 2 seconds again back to 80-100 which means I will get kicked every few minutes... -1

I remember being kicked out from servers when I was used to play CS:S back in 2007 because I was causing lags to everybody. I often had a ping higher than 200+ ms and had to find quickly a way to reduce it in order to stop annoying other players.

Why would you allow laggers to play to the detriment of reliable players?

Wow.. You have been playing CS since source?! :o

Kicking players because they have a poor internet is a bit unfair but I must say it's the Tanki servers that really lag.

The real thing is that they can't even properly enjoy Tanki if they have lag that bad...and hence they shouldn't be playing at all.

You;re not the one to decide whether or not they should play. Maybe they enjoy suffering from lag?

Ah...stop putting words into my mouth.  If you have lag that bad, you can't possibly perform at your peak, and therefore aren't helping your team.  If you are experiencing lag that bad, it's not fun for you, which you just said yourself.  If they don't enjoy the lag, why are they playing? If they want to, get a better computer.  Or just download the client.

The main thing is that ordinary laggers wouldn't be removed...only those lagging SO bad they effectively cannot play.  The vast majority of players wouldn't have to worry about anything, only those players who skip around the map, etc...

I understand your problem and I'm sorry about that but I don't see why players with an unreliable connexion should be allowed to play to the detriment of others. You're not enjoying the game and annoy other players, what's the point?

I don't know how hard you're lagging but I'm especially talking about these players who keep refreshing their browser thinking it wil solve their connexion issue (the last player in red and the second to last player in blue spent many minutes to join/leave)

I enjoy the game even though I sometimes glitch out or make delayed moves. Other players don't seem to mind much, it is only the stuck up players that get really angry.

If you were to remove the players with no connection or a connection that comes in and out, that may work. There is already a "system" that kicks users from the battle if they are not able to spawn in a certain amount of time.

I think that before this is implemented, if it ever is, Tanki will either need to do a major upgrade of their servers or place them all over the globe to reduce the risk of honest players getting removed from battles constantly.

If the Battle button is coming.. could lag please be secondary match-making criteria?

Then you could group all players with 300+ into a battle and all with 50- into antoher one.

I am a good and fair player: I play with 24 PING.

Everyone knows that in this game a high PING gives you a huge advantage over enemies in XP/BP battles, and that server lag makes the outcome completely random. So many times I see players shoot me when I am two to ten meters behind a wall, or try to deflect an enemy only to see the impact force come a second later, with 30% of the normal impact. Some cheaters (I like to name things without beating around the bush) only need to warm their Railgun up for 0,5 seconds! How is that fair? So many people purposely use lag-switch to gain an advantage.

I once reported a serious lagger. My video fit all the rules. His lags where immense. Not just a remarkable 50, more like 130 PING. Did he get banned? No. I assure you, this is one of the biggest disadvantages of Tanki Online.

Maybe make the game actually happen in a central server to which all clients would be coordinated, or just actually punish laggers/make an option to set a PING limit for a battle, that would somehow punish players for exceeding it.

Just fix it!

As what some of you would define as a lagger, I can confidently say that we have it worse. We have 19 lagging tanks to shoot at as opposed to all you non-lagers only having to shoot at one lagging tank.

Not entirely so. You can predict how the lag works, since your lag makes for most of it. 10-40 PING opponents will behave similair for you, since you have 220 PING.

Also, laggers somehow get less recoil. The system also makes more compensations for them, so they can hit you when you are already behind a wall.

I used to say that only when I was salty about losing to laggers, until I got a PING around 135 (the internet was worse at the moment, plus my family was using the same WiFi). I instantly noticed how huge an advantage I had got over other players. The comfort of playing worsened slightly. However, I could shoot at a tank that was lagging on my screen, and the damage was dealt when he lagged behind a wall the nest split seconds. I could also hit them directly, while they could never knock off my aim – I damaged them the next second regardless of the impact force. Even on my screen it came a bit later. When I play on 22 PING against a lagger, his tank can vibrate in a laggy way, tricking my hands to do the same in attempt of adapting my aim to his moves. He also gets the no recoil effect.

You do get an advantage.

And even if you didn't, not so many players have so high a PING as you, while you make the game more uncomfortable and skilless because of some random lagging.

Therefore, why not add an option to block laggers? They can play battles with more tolerant players who do not care so much about fair-play or people like themselves.

was using mammoth and a lagging hornet bumped into me, then went under me and then made me do a back flip and land upside down.

i was not even moving just sitting on the flag

using hornet is even worse, of course while im warming up to shoot with railgun  a "teammate" running away from a firebird rams into me making me miss  my shot and also make me landing upside down while they drive under me and die 3 seconds later to the firebird that would've been killed had i hit it

Believe it or not, in the early days of Tanki, lag was even worse than it is now.

You would drive you tank and want to go around a building or some other obstacle but the turning controls wouldn't respond. Picture the chaos that made. Visualize the long outside ramp going up to blue base in Silence. You'd get to the top and just keep right on going. If you knew how many seconds you were lagging, then you could start making your turn that many seconds before you got there. However, that didn't always work either. You'd start to make a turn a second before you needed to and suddenly the game caught up with you and you'd either end up in a ditch or making a U-Turn.

Sometimes buildings would have a black wall, some ramps were black, too. At times, even tanks were black and it wasn't black paint either. They looked like a black box running around without the shape of a tank.

Delayed shots were common. You'd hit the spacebar and nothing happened, but somehow you managed to get a kill. Or you'd spam the spacebar trying to get a shot off before your target disappeared behind a wall or building.

Ghosting was common, too. You would respawn but either everyone had spinning turrets or just wasn't moving. However, you could move around the map at will and push the enemy tanks off the map or over a cliff. That was fun. But if you didn't reload you were booted from the battle. Sometimes you'd see a tank that looked like a ghost. I don't know if that's what I looked like when I was ghosting.

The lags were terrible, glitches were horrible, but we still had fun.

So basically your lags made your tank move in an awkward way on your screen? That would mean that whenever the client sent an information to the server (about shooting, for example), the server would process this and only then return that info to the client. Once this happened, it got updated on your screen. If your PING count was low, such things probably did not occur unless the server had problems.

Nowadays laggers have no problem with driving – their tanks drive smoothly. Instead, an they often shoot you behind walls or lag under your tank.

So the old system must have been better! Why let laggy tanks shoot others behind walls – just count it as a miss. And if their tanks move in a strange way so that they can juke shots, they should not have control over it, either.

If what you say is true, I deeply hope this game will go back to its previous state in that aspect.
