Mid-Fielder's Dream

 Share

Recommended Posts

First off,

I know this should belong under What to buy? Which is better?, but there we really don't get a focused answer and other people are not even answering your question, instead making their own. So, please don't move this topic or end it. Tank You!!!

Mid-Fielder's Dream

Setting: Rio CTF

You're a selfless tanker, you would do anything for the success of your team. There's just one problem, what do you use?

This is an age-old question for maybe half the tankers out there, what do I use? Well that depends, do you want to sit on the flag with your fancy M2 Titan or Mammoth and just use M2 Twins and selflessly put a brick on the spacebar to defend your home? Or do you prefer to run along the beach with a M2 Hunter, Viking, or Dictator while ticking-off all those heavy hull, short range defenses? Or still yet, do you prefer to sit in the corner with the best camo crystals can buy and snipe away at those pesky Hornet and Wasps

Would you like to take a step towards helping fellow tankers like me and your best friend by simply answering, What do you do, for others to help you?

Post-Script Trivia:

Thunder or Vulcan?

Hunter or Dictator?

Titan or Mammoth?

Freeze or Firebird?

Smoky or Railgun?

Shaft

Only a skilled one. One that watches over the whole field and doesn't just spawn-camp newbies on the enemy base, but actually picks relevant targets to help his team's attackers take less damage and get away with the flag.

That's what I meant. Unskilled Shaft players are detriments to their team, and a waste of a player slot.  But honestly, any turret without a skilled user isn't that effective.

Remember, if you're a skilled thunder on the (i think) red team, you can drive up to the top of the map and sit at an angle and pwn the crap out of the (i think) blue team as they spawn. BEWARE, this may result in some chat spam and you may have to relocate and change your name to Joe to avoid detection. :D

I'd be the perfect candidate to protect the team as a Shaft :D

Railgun + Viking for Mid-Field in Rio, good everytime.   But if you want to constantly shoot multiple people then Hunter + Thunder will be better for you, be sure to hide and let no one come close to you or you're dead.

I use Smoky or Thunder for tactical support. I never really go after the flag in Rio for either side.

Same

I don't play Rio often, but when I do, I get a location and snipe the enemy defenders or, if both teams have each other's flag, I snipe the guy with the flag

I usually drug like a beast and run in for scenario 2.

Red side -

IMO, the weapon that shines here is the Ricochet. It covers the alley, can wreck havoc from the roof and the left ledge. Because of it's insane firing angle, the ricochet easily takes down enemies on higher ground (platform/roof) - something other weapons(except shaft) will find more difficult. Hornet/hunter/dictator all pair well with Ricochet.

Thunders/smoky on viking/hunter can cover the side lanes pretty well. The only thing to remember - if you're playing thunder, stay away from taking responsibility of holding the enemy flag while your team is trying to return your own.

Titan/mammoth hulls are a bit too slow/heavy to be useful on the red side of Rio. Hunter/dictator is preferable over viking because Viking is too wide and gets awkwardly stuck in places. Esp between the beams on the platform holding the flag.

Blue side -

For the blue side, the most valuable turrets to have on the team are freeze/twins. On Viking/titan. IMO, hunters/dictators/mammoths take a backseat here. There is less vertical play. Also it helps to have a lower profile and not stand out or be an easy target. Another reason why you may want to avoid using such hulls is because they simply take up too much space and become a hindrance for teammates driving through the base between the beach and the ledge.

Hammers/shafts/firebirds/rails do well on both sides. Railgun is adept at clearing the beach and lanes. Hornet preferred over hunter/viking for hull rocking (angular aiming).

same here. It's always super exciting when both teams are in a complete stand off (especially when your the one that got their flag) to solve this I usually go switch to Hornet+Firebird M2 and my module that protects against their most powerful turrets and then try to grab a full tiara on the way there . Of I do manage to get a full 234 combo they are in serious trouble :D if not I still most of the time get my flag back . Or better yet in battles is when your in the last 60 seconds of a CTF. Tied .and you rush over, somehow grab their flag and make a supersonic dash back to your flag dodging railgun shots everywhere and somehow out running the fully drugged freeze right behind you.and you manage to cap it at 5 seconds . I have done this about half a dozen times ,I always get so proud of myself when I do :D Edited by fordmustang12345

Dictator over viking because Viking is too wide? Bro, Dictator is wider than Viking! xD

I'm not sure, I think Dictator and Viking are of equal width.

However, being a good Shaft is HARD. Like, really hard. Especially at the highest ranks.

You need a midrange turret when going after something they may have fortified with heavy bodies. Thunder is highly useful in a situation like this, but even better with a couple of team mates to provide the distraction of having the enemy turrets point in the opposite direction. The walls and ground around the hiding flag stealer provide splash damage for Thunder.

Back when Freeze and Fire had the penetration ability those were the best for taking down a big cluster of enemies.  Now, they're still good, but THunder with DD might be better. And don't forget Shaft can get them from across the map, even if the tiniest part of the hull is revealed.

The flag stealers usually hide under the ramps on their respective sides. A Shaft can pin them down from the beach, giving his team mates a frozen target.

Rail hornet beach drugs done bai

Have you seen what a Shaft-Hunter on the Red Team, on the beach sniping into the blue base, drugging DD, can do?

That literally flips the whole game around. It's even worse if there are two Shafts. If two Shafts are looking down the same side, that side is completely blocked off for the other team.

Noob Shafts are so easy. They are completely blind and unaware.  They can't aim and take 5 seconds to ensure their shot hits a non-moving target.  But PRO Shafts, combined with a half-decent team, are such **** *** ******* **** *** *******.

A noob Shaft will flinch if he is in Scope mode and you are headed in his direction at a slight angle with your turret pointed at him.

A noob Shaft is that one person who's trying to capture the flag using only arcade mode.
