TTK's Thoughts on: Striker

Welcome, fellow tankers, to the series where I give my (totally unbiased, of course) opinion that nobody asked for, and where you get to listen. Today I'll be talking about the most recent turret release, that of Striker. grnrnr should have been called Tornado grrrr so salty

Volume One can be found here.

So, to start off, I think that "Striker" is a horrible name. I've made this argument in earlier posts, so I'll let you look through my forum profile and find them xaxaxaxaxxa so I'll just restate it. "Striker" is a bad name for the turret. "Tornado" is much more appropriate. "Striker" would be better for the upcoming artillery cannon/mortar, since it can hit (or strike...) targets from a far distance without having to see them. On the other hand, "Tornado" fits it well-the sound effects, the massive damage, the wide area of effect. While it is true that "Tornado" was used for a kit, so was "Striker". Also, this is a Tornado, while this is a Striker. Plus, Tornado sounds cooler.

Now, to the real discussion. Striker deals massive damage, easily being able to take down even an unprotected Dictator with a single salvo, and heavy hulls with just one or two more arcade rockets. It also has splash damage similar to Thunder, with a 10 meter radius and dealing reduced damage outwards until 10m is reached. Exactly like Thunder. The missiles can track their targets, but will oftentimes blindly follow them and hit buildings or walls in the way. Rockets aren't hard to dodge, if you are prepared and have cover. Arcade and salvo rockets will each do the same random damage, and the turret also has a relatively fast turning speed. There is an (approximately) two second reload time between arcade rockets, which fire alternately out of the four barrels. The design looks well thought out, although I haven't memorized the looks of the modifications yet.

In my eyes, Striker's role seems to be kind of hard to pin down. The splash damage and lower fire rate make it bad for attacking, but the same attributes make it bad for hardcore defending. My total of 30 minutes lead me to believe that it is ideal for aggressive mid fielding, ripping the enemy team's defense open, and taking down key heavy-hulled targets. Medium to heavy hulls are easy to destroy, if you can get a lock on them. On the other hand, light hulls are rather difficult to lock on, and this requires you to rely on arcade rockets. I have had some bad memories with taking damage from my own rockets. I fire a salvo, thinking that all my rockets have fired, go behind a corner, and get hit in the face with half of my own rockets, coming from the barrel behind the wall. Duels between these weapons are usually a battle to get a lock-on first, but clever users will wait for their opponents to lock, then hide behind a wall, or just knock their lock off entirely with a well-placed rocket. Speaking of well-placed rockets, aiming in arcade mode is difficult at long ranges, because of the two barrels. Leading your shots is also difficult at long range.

Hull choice, for me, would be Dictator, Viking, or Mammoth. Having an off-centered turret placement is good for Striker, so you can be less of a target for enemy Strikers. Speed is good for Striker as well, so you can get to your position. Dictator would be my personal choice, as it has the right amount of protection and moderate speed, as well as the right shape. We can use its shape as an advantage to help the Striker to aim higher but it also makes it vulnerable due to the big size which makes it easy to hit. You should be targeting the enemy's defenses and snipers, especially shafts. Always stay on the move, because if an enemy sniper has you pinned down, you will most likely lose. This weapon is good for areas in maps with little cover, especially for Kungur and Desert. Staying on one of the Repair kit drop makes you a good camper because you can help your team to stop attackers from coming to your base. It can be used similarly to Vulcan, as it has similar strengths.

One thing I wonder is when the modules, kits, alterations, and achievements will come out. I would love to see a kit with Dictator because for me it is the best suited tank to use with Striker. I think that the damage dealt is a little too big and the time to lock on is a bit too long. I would also like to see the splash damage radius halved, so it is not too similar to Thunder. It should be changed slightly, but not necessarily needed or buffed. I have encountered no wasps and hornets bugs with it.

Overall, I like this new turret. It deals large amount of damage, the aiming system is unique, and. It is easy and fun to play with it but need a high skill requirement to master the full potential of this gun. In short, it is a worthy addition to the game.

I did enjoy reading this a lot, my only recommendation would be to maybe try and collect some pictures of the Striker turret, since right now there aren't any pictures. Otherwise, great job!

Wow, so original.

I'm jk. Good to read something written by someone who actually has the turret. Pictures would also be good, especially of it in "salvo" mode (which I guess is the laser mode). I'm still curious on how that part works, but will figure it out next Thursday...

 I'm impressed that you can type this much on a mobile device. I seriously need a physical keyboard or pen to do anything.
