Atoms and STM

Hi all. I just thought some of you might find this photo interesting. See all those yellow dots? They're individual ATOMS. Yes, atoms. They're atoms of Bismuth, to be precise. We got to 'see' (apostrophes because they're quantum particles, which means you can't really see them, as such. It's confusing...) the atoms by using an STM- a scanning tunneling microscope, which runs by using quantum tunneling.

Enjoy.

Waw. How did your school get hold of such high-power microscopes? :o

I wish. Nah, I went on a nanotech camp for 5 days at a university, and they had one there.

Thought you looked like @personia, so I dug through your profile and saw that you're his main.

Off topic ik

Lol. :D personia is my main, this is just an acc that I have to play with higher ranks.

Interesting stuff..Personally I find the theoretical part more attractive :p... Though the experiment I'd like to see the most is Bell's inequality. :D

Agreed, but it's still pretty cool to be able to see individual atoms.
