Hmmm... but is it really that bad? I mean, your rating grows while you ranking up and you never feel stuck (until you get to end game though). I didn't want anyone to feel anything like ELO-hell, we'll have enough of that in the future.

I'd have to see the tabulation before I could say "good" or "bad". There's certainly wisdom in scaling the rating based upon experience, but we already have a proxy for that in the experience or rank. Rank will dominate until you get to the point that rank doesn't matter anymore (and that sounds like the target range for the rating in the first place). Lower ranks already operate under the assumption that rank approximates skill, since there are only a few outliers for this who fly through promotions. I don't see an issue with this, as long as it only applies to all but the top few ranks.

The key is in seeing what differentiates a superior tanker at a given rank from an average one. That is what would make the system brilliant (and since you came up with it, brilliance is certainly possible).

Based upon the 7 Feb data available here on the outside, the previous system had a naive linear R2 of 0.43 between the rating and the K/D ratio. It would doubtless be even higher if non-linearity of K/D were taken into account. Also, nauseatingly, R2 between supplies/hr and the rating was 0.14, meaning that at bare minimum one seventh of your score was simply how much you drugged; ieww. Since parkour supply usage is probably included here, since drugs measures here don't split between repair kits or other supplies, and since drugs/hour is inherently non-linear, it was probably much worse. I didn't see any other listed column (including my contrived measure of crystals per supply) with correlation to this rating.

Metrics are hard. I look forward to the next data set.

Opex-Rah, please, can you clear up, when K/D increases rating and when it lowers it? I think rating grows up until K/D 2 (or 3, 4... I'm just guessing number) and then, higher K/D lowers rating. Am I right? And why should be high K/D bad for rating? I understand, camping in CP, CTF and having high K/D isn't good and doesn't help your team, but on the other side, in DM and TDM especially, high K/D matters. Since you team's success depends on your (and you team's) K/D.
My thoughts, how to increase your rating (only hypotethical): Keep your K/D around 2.00. Earn as much crystals to keep Exp/Cry ratio low (e.g. 1.6 mil exp, 4.5 mil crystals  ), however, more experience is better :)
So someone with few mil. exp, great (as low as possible) exp/cry ratio and D/L around 2.00 should have highest rating. (see gold hunters)

Opening post updated, with ranking list now based on new rating formula (patch update #439).

- Players in the old ranking list were transferred to new one. Old ranking list is still there, but spoilered

- New players added:

62009 :D

This new formula seems to be better for me   .
Rating: 58886
Crystals/Xp ratio: 1,21
K/D: 1,08

90598.

Why buyers get better rating?

How do u know players crys./ exp. and sup/ hr.?

For you it is, but for others the change is massive, see updated opening post :)

I still don't understand this rating thingy. It's weird some players have a higher rating than me while I'm scoring better at all parameters except for Cry/Exp. This one seems to have a big influence, doesn't it?

No need to change the formula again as I don't really care about the ratings. :p

Cry/Exp and K/D influence more I think.

Okay, here goes...

For all listed users today (minus the ones without updates, and plus the ones which were dropped form the list but had updates), R2 for linear correlation between

  • rating and experience: 0.34
  • rating and K/D: 0.21
  • rating and crystal/experience: 0.21
  • rating and supplies/hour: < 0.05
  • rating and crystal/supply: < 0.05

This is noisy. However, I see a straight line through all the low ranks (about 3000 x rank number). What if we look at everyone below the Gizmo rank?

  • rating and experience: 0.95 (! It's your rank. If you want to know your rating, and you're not at the top of the ranks, basically look at the average for your rank. It will be within a few percent from that. We would need to see hundreds more ratings to have a chance of seeing past this.)
  • rating and K/D: 0.21
  • rating and crystal/experience: 0.45 (but keep in mind that this ratio goes up linearly with rank)
  • rating and supplies/hour: < 0.05
  • rating and crystal/supply: 0.18

This rating is rather uninteresting for those who look forward to unlocking equipment at a future rank. We can go away until we're big enough to have a rank party. Even M3 users must follow the leader on ranks for a while. Enough about us peasants; what if we look at everyone at Gizmo or a Legend rank?

  • rating and experience: <0.01 (and it shouldn't matter at this level anyway)
  • rating and K/D: 0.15
  • rating and crystal/experience: 0.67
  • rating and supplies/hour: < 0.01
  • rating and crystal/supply: 0.13

This is correlation, not causation. However, it means that if you're a Gizmo with a high K/D, catch a lot of golds, win a lot of matches, and do this without absolutely spamming the drug keys, then you're probably a great Tanki player according to this rating. That's hard to argue in general. There are possibly specific edge cases (Isida, pure-play gold hunters, playing with regular teammates with Skype), but it seems that those who consistently win Gizmos/Legends-only battles have the highest ratings. That sounds great.
