Yo!

you can color-dodge bits(blend mode) of the tank where there's extensive light falling, white faded stroke around the outline of the tank, use of filter (curves/exposer/ photo filter), adding proper shadows on the tank itself and on the environment itself using dark tones (not black), adding cracks, dust, dirt to the tracks etc, last but not the least slightly bluing the background.

hope that helped, good luck! :D

Hey Thiedes, im kinda new to this so im not completely sure of all the techniques, but could you clarify bluing the background? Does that mean giving it a blue tint or what? But thanks for the other tips, my artworks are already improving :)

Ah sorry for the late reply,

i meant increasing the focus on the main theme by blurring the rest/background. As far blurring is concerned there are Tons of blurs to pick from, it varies depending on the picture and as to how you want to blur it, if its just generally bluring the background to increase the focus on the main theme i'd suggest using Gaussian Blur ( Filter>Blur>Gaussian blur) but dont hold yourself back, as i said there are tons of blurs to choose from the blur gallery if your using the latest version of Photoshop you'll find more blurring options.

While bluring you an use layer mask to make a light-heavy blur (light blur near the focus and having heavy blur on the far-away from focus parts with a smooth transition in between).

you can use the blur tool to blur on empty layers instead of merging every time and bluring, (http://prntscr.com/pn18nx) make sure to have the sample all layers checked. you could totally add Bokeh's too.

Hope that clarified enough, as well please redirect your questions here, im sure you'll get much more feedback over there.

Do leme know if i can help you in any other way ^^ ( Thiedes#2185)

ZNSGueJ.pngMy latest edit of fire/hornet. Any advice or positive criticisms would be welcome.

Very nice, realistic flame! Also, very nice use of the Rule of Thirds, it makes the whole image "pop."

A bit of criticism - I would have liked to see more realistic shadows on the right side of the tank. You could have darkened that side of the tank, that way it would match the shadows cast by the building.

Very nice artwork!  ;)
