Ideas for Ideas and Suggestions: Change in Review Process

If Under Review really means ideas and suggestions are put under review:

Don't put ideas and suggestions under review for sometime.

I think it's better that ideas and suggestions are discussed among forum participants first: to filter out bad ideas, to polish good ones or to turn bad ones into good ones.

The idea is that fewer but better ideas will be put under review for hopefully a better chance of becoming accepted, and to lessen the burden of moderators and reviewer.

How to do it:

Maybe by waiting for the idea to get some amount of likes and a few number of days at least.

Once that is achieved a poll could be created to see how popular the idea is.

And if the idea is popular and at least few days have passes then it should be put under review.

This could be a little too much, but I think something like this could help. What do you think?

We already had an idea like this before and decided not to go ahead with it. Cypher and I are already struggling to process all the ideas players post and we physically won't be able to track all new topics, read replies from other players, evaluate them and only then add a status tag. This forum just isn't made for such a complicated system. So with this system you won't make our job easier, but exactly the opposite.

 

Besides, I don't really see the point in what you're suggesting. Bad ideas are already filtered out by us, moderators. Some are posted as [Declined] ideas, while others are never posted at all. Yes, I know that sometimes our decision may be mostly based on personal opinion, but so far in over 7 months of having the new approval system, we only had 4 or 5 cases where our opinion was incorrect and we had to "undecline" an idea.

 

As for the process you suggest - that also has multiple issues. The number of likes and votes on a poll don't really show how good an idea really is. A lot of forum users don't think about an idea in-depth and vote based on the first impression. And the first impression is usually quite primitive: if the idea gives players more stuff to play with or makes saving up easier - it's liked. If the idea is to change something, then it's usually hated.

 

I know our current system is not perfect, but it's the best we could come up with and any significant changes would require immense amounts of work due to so many ideas already having been approved according to this system. If you have any more suggestions on how we could improve, feel free to post here or PM me. But honestly I doubt that we'll be able to improve from here since this forum isn't meant for sharing ideas in the first place.

How to make it easier for mods and at the same time reduce the number of ideas sent for review for faster and more effective process?

 

One idea of how to do it could be like this:

 

- User posts an idea.

- Mod does a quick review to see if it's not in violation of some rule or something like that.

- If all good, mod allows the topic to be published. No need to reply or codify.

- When the idea gets discussed and a number of users like the idea the user will need to PM a mod telling him that his/her idea is ready for review.

- Then a mod allows the idea to go to next step.

 

Since there will be fewer ideas reaching this step mods will have less of a burden and better ideas will be sent for review.

There could be bad ideas but with good intentions. If people are allowed for their ideas to be discussed, updated, changed or bettered before being put under review, I think it will be positive.

People will learn a new system. Yes, the likes will not be a perfect indicator of a quality idea but it will be an indicator that at least it's properly presented and that it has potential.

I think there's a lot that could be done to help this problem. Ideas don't need to be sent for review immediately.

This phrase makes me think that you still misunderstand what "under review" means around here. We don't send all approved ideas to developers for them to review and answer back to us. We do make a weekly report where we list all of the best ideas from the past week (this happens in a hidden section), but we never actually get a reply from devs where they told us which ideas to mark as planned, rejected, etc.

 

So the ideas section is mostly for sharing and discussing your ideas with other players, while actually having devs read it and implement it is a much less common outcome and it can't be turned into normal procedure for this section, because there's simply too many ideas for devs to review.

 

They do read this section and take our feedback into account, but unfortunately what you suggest won't really work out.

And another thing - an idea can be reported to developers for review at any point, so an "under review" statis doesn't mean that there's no way to change it. Heck, if the idea's creator edits his idea significantly and tells us about it, we can include the idea in the report again, and just add a note that the topic was improved.

 

So yeah, a status is far from final, so any idea can still be improved after being published. That's why I don't want to chanhe the current system to what you suggest. It doesn't actually change much :)

If you check my profile you'll see that I rarely play with this account, I played today to check the new Rico, I have Rico M1, what could that mean? Yes, I have other accounts.

I was the one who was requesting changes in the review process. We concluded that there would be too much spam - and that they will at their own  free will decide if a "Old item" if argued enough - and orignal enough could be under review. 

 

The point I was trying to make to them is I suggested to add friendly fire, it was declined because apparently a while back it was part of the game. I did not know this, and was agrivated when a few days later BAM it was added back to the game. 

 

My argument was that if it was reasonable to add a under review tag. 

 

Bringing back things like Cry boxes would be increasing/decreasing rewards if you think about it, plus it would be declined as technically cry bxoes are in every battle fund from my understanding in a old vlog i watched. 

 

All in all, just remember when making suggestions to explain why it would be a good idea.

Why aggravated though? Your idea was added to the game, so you should be happy :)

And the fact that it was added despite your idea getting declined only further proves that your topic was pointless, since devs were planning to add it back anyway. If you only wanted your topic approved so that you could have a [Completed] tag, then I don't see the point of that since you don't get any bonuses for having a completed idea.

We were thinking of doing that, but ended up abandoning the idea due to the amount of topics there is. You can count it yourself - 32 pages with 30 ideas per page. That's almost a thousand ideas to put into the list. We simply don't have neither the time nor the desire to do that amount of work. i can understand there are too many ideas but i guess only few of them would be under review...so maybe you can add the ones that are under review and if they are too much then my idea is not gonna work

Most of them are under review. Only the ones with title tags are not under review. And even then, the only ideas we would NOT add to the list are the ones we lock and decline, which is probably less than 10% of all topics on these 32 pages.

Most of the "great ideas" youve posted were either already in the game or dumb to the point that they declined them.

A pinned topic for Under Review I think would require more work for the mods. Instead maybe Subforums would be better.

 

Another idea I have is that there should be a place where we can post rough ideas to discuss with others, that wouldn't require pre moderation.

We used to have a generic pinned topic that was just called "Ideas and Suggestions", but from what I found - people were just posting ideas there instead of creating a new topic and no one bothered to check or discuss them. So we decided to lock it during the section reform and stick with the "one idea - one topic" system.

I didn't mean a pinned topic, I meant something like a subforum or a devided IAS.
