Advertising within the game

Recommended Posts

Why not hire someone that knows something about marketing?  I'm sure it would increase your bottom line in a short amount of time.  I really don't think constant game changing is the answer to increase of revenue.

If it is not revenue you are after, why frustrate your players so much?  I would guess most folks dislike the majority of the changes you have been making.  No?  Try taking a poll and I think you may be surprised with the results.

Income.  I hope you guys get rich...I really do.  One approach might be to introduce advertising.  You have 20,000 to 60,0000 players online at different times during the day, that means your should see between 500,000 and 750,000 individuals a day minimum.  All those players are crystal hungry so why not hook up with a few advertisers and make an option for a player to watch a video, click a link, answer a question, etc for a crystal reward.  Everyone wins...Tanki gets revenue, the advertisers get dynamic targeted exposure, and the players get more crystals.

The real point is there may be other, better ways to increase income other than constantly trying to force your current player base into sending in more money.  There are people out there that are experts at marketing and advertising...they go to school for it and are effective.  If your budget is too low to hire someone, pay them based on the amount of increased revenue they produce.

Just an idea and suggestion.  I love playing this game and hate to see it being thrashed so often.

We usually decline ideas like this. It's clear that Tanki doesn't want to litter their game with any kind of adverts as it makes the game look unprofessional. Pop-up ads are reserved for small websites, while "watch an ad to earn game money" is for small mobile games, which struggle to get revenue.

I can guarantee you that AlternativaPlatform already have at least one marketing manager and that introducing ads to the game is something they do not want to do, rather than something they didn't think of yet. So even though this idea is valid, it's pretty much pointless as devs won't get any useful feedback from here.

I, shocked that you put this under review, but it's believable as tanki is getting desperate. This idea has been rejected time and time again. But as tanki slowly fades, they need that extra money, I a, very disappointed with u.

if were having issues with the server now.. how will be able to play with pop up lagging the system more.. like i understand they need it to bring in the money but your also trying to have to figure out what ads are safe due to languages difference ... some words are not safe or have different meanings in other languages .. also cultures and religions .. what ads would be safe to display ???

for example advertising any pork products or things that were or could be offensive to others

That's not an issue. When it comes to anything like that, developers simply follow the laws and cultural traditions of the country where the game belongs, so in this case either Russia (devs' office), the Netherlands (servers location) or Malta (place where company is registered).

Theefore pork adverts would be perfectly fine (but wouldn't be shown because it's completely absurd to advertise food in an online game :D), while even now someone can create a topic called something like "what's your favourite type of bacon?" and Muslim players can't complain about it because pork is not prohibited in this forum's culture.

Instead of watch video ads why not change the old and introduce billboards and hoardings containing product ads.

Watching videos may be annoying to players andlooks cheap too.

I'm sure they would implement something like google ads, which basically put different ads for different users base on their search history etc... so for example if you used google to search about orchestras, they'd give you an ad here about a music shop or something :p I'm pretty sure you've seen them, google ads are in a lot of websites :)

Besides, even if companies asked TO directly to advertise, I'm pretty sure the company would be related to something techy such as new computer parts etc... because, why on earth would yuo advertise pork in a game where the majority of players are under 15 lol

Why don't the devs just put some ads for other lesser mobile war games on the billboards? Many of these war games constantly invest money on ads in many apps and I don't see a reason why they shouldn't have them on the billboards.

Since there are very limited billboards, I feel like tanki could put some random billboards in places that don't even effect the game and also enlargen the billboards. For example, behind the houses in the bases in Highways there should be gigantic billboards that snipers from the other team can see it from their side.

why don't you do it like counter-strike servers ? they put ads as posters on the walls . they have zero effect on the gameplay and still get revenue out of it .

you can also put ads on these ? they're already everywhere so why not make some money out of them , huh ?

It would make sense to have Ads on the loading screen. The most professional looking ads only appear on a loading screen. It would probably be a good use of a loading screen if we had ads along with the tips. Another easy way for TO to make $$$$.

Here's how a racing game I play uses adverts:

Each race set contains 3-4 races. At the end of each set, you watch a 15 second trailer for a trending game in the Windows Store (This particular game company only has 2 games, so they are unbiased at to which ones are shown). Some of the games advertised are free, some are not. You can remove those ads for a one time price of 1 USD by going into the game store and buying anything at any price. Everything in the game store costs 1 USD or more. To get rid of the ads you only have to spend 1 USD. Players see the trending games and the trailers, go to the Windows Store to check it out. I don't know if the game site gets any revenu for that or not.

The game has 3 containers containing ingame items, such as gems, gold and car parts, similar to what Tanki has. You have to wait 3 hours to open these containers. Occasionally, they throw in an 8 hour container in place of a 3 hour one. You can buy the container out right with gems or at the end of one hour 30 minutes you can do one of three choices: Wait out the rest of the 3 hours (which will cost you nothing)...Spend 12 gems to open it (as time decreases so does the gem amount)...or...Watch a 15 second video. This video is the same trailer for the same game...never changes. I always click on Watch a Video then go to the bathroom, grab a snack/drink, let the dogs out or whatever. By that time the video is over and I can get the container for free.

I'm NOT advocating that Tanki puts a price on opening containers by watching an ad. Lord knows we work hard enough for them. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are no ingame ads, none on the homepage, nothing to lag the game. This is just an example of how another small game company gets its revenue. How effective it is, I don't know.

Why not allow only community based ads on only some parts of map and specific maps (ads based on luck)? Make advertising youtube a paid feature...

For example matchmaking ads would cost more (polygon, magistral...) than dead pro battle maps (short bridge, combe, subway)
