New MU designations for M0 equipment - update #445 3/2/17

Patch Notes Quote:

Number of steps decreased from 50 to 10;

Total step cost halved and equals to the cost of M1 modification of the item;

Speed up cost is 2 times higher than step cost on each step;

The aggregate value of step and speed up remains the same;

Sooooo...is this correct?

Smoky M1 costs 11000 crystals

If I do 10 micro-upgrades (without speedups) on Smoky M0 they will cost 11000 in total, bringing my Smoky to 10/10 and automatic M1 status when my rank permits.

Yeah?    Cool.

My M0 alt account is very happy now. :lol: It had the funds but not the rank. And in the old system it wasn't worth to MU. Now it makes more sense! I just wish they could apply this to higher modifications too, we M3s could use some love. :(

Sure, it's good for newbies during their first few days/weeks of playing, but it's a bit of a sneaky move considering that this update basically tricks beginners into thinking that MUs are good, so they end up getting M1 and wasting all their crystals away trying to upgrade them to M2. I think there needs to be some kind of warning once player reach M1 to prevent this kind of situation, otherwise this change seems rather unethical.

Well, I think it's a long-overdue update. It's impossible to buy M1 kits at low ranks without buying, as the paints and modules bring them up to ludicrous prices.

But this will be really beneficial for new players, and make achieving better equipment a less-daunting prospect at low ranks.

Good job.

No point. You play with your M0 for like 10 hours. Then you have M1. M1 would be more interesting to do.

All the Newspaper articles recommend not to buy them as it a waste of money: [issue 58] [Review] MUs: Worth the Effort?

But spending to MU your gear is a good idea. Yes, for m0, m1, and m2 not just m3. The key is to judge how many steps to buy.

Its much much more than 10 hours for new players learning the game. For players starting their 11th account who cares?

Well, then maybe the Newspaper articles will have to change their opinion on MUs for M0s.

That is true. However, I see a lot of players in M0 ranks who micro-upgrade their equipment a lot. I don't see that many in M1 ranks. There are already helps in the forum telling them that it is potentially a waste of money (though it isn't always in my opinion). Tanki could do something to help them realise that micro-upgrades are more expensive than the new modification, but, regarding the amount of newbies who micro-upgrade their M0 equipment, I think that it is good that, at least, it's not heaps expensive from M0 to M1.

bad update

point of micro upgrades is to have it more expensive than higher modification but u can achieve it earlier

making price same like micro ups is pointless

your point about microupgrades is valid, but only for players who are informed about that.

A beginner does not know all that. He see's a turret and clicks upgrade, because in all games you have to upgrade your gear.

That the microupgrades were way more expensive then the M1 (up to now) was nowhere visible in the game; you could only find that out through the wiki.

No beginner checks the wiki in deep, they just play and go and have fun... but they lack fun if they waste their M0-level crystals way too early.

Therefore I think this is a very good update, that helps the players, especially free players (or players that start free).

Well, then maybe the Newspaper articles will have to change their opinion on MUs for M0s.

No we won't, it still a waste of crystal. Save your crystals for an M1 Kit, and then MU your M1 up to 10-20 MU. After that you lose crystal for a diminishing benefit.

Check this stat: http://ratings.tankionline.com/en/user/potato_soup I have 2 M1 kits and never MUed my M0s equipment, not even bought a protection module.

I find particularly interesting that you've already decided so before seeing how the new system works out. I mean, do you want a cheap M1 kit (like Hooligan or Firefly)? Yeah, probably it's not worth it. Now, if you do Hornet-Railgun (both of which unlock rather late, and come in a rather expensive kit), maybe the deal would be worth it.

I mean, I don't know, I haven't played with the new system, maybe it's worth it maybe it isn't. But I'm open to seeing how it works out before having any strong opinion on it.

Yes, sorry, you made good valid points, Thank you. I have been a bit hasty on that one.

Sure, play with the new system and make your own opinion. Fair enough.

I hope people will not start to Mu all their equipment, but only a selection of them.

Under the old system m0 upgrades had a very very mild cost in the low 3-figures. Significant MU eork was possible for a total of a kiloCrysatl or three. Spending a couple-three thou on MU steps does not exactly cripple the player as they move to the m1 stuff. The early steps cost a tiny amount so the value is good.

As I said, they key is knowing when you've reached the point of diminishing returns. Then you stop the MU investments and save.

BlaxkWasp's comments on the way new players learn by doing is spot-on. Myself I MU'ed my Smoky m0 all 50 steps. Why did I do this? Because I read "you get the next level item 'for free'" to mean that all the MU steps added together equaled the cost of the m1. It was only after I was well into the process that I realized that wasn't right. At that point I ha to forge ahead to 50/50.

Well ... if this system was in place then I'd have saved 11,000 Crystals.

As Mafioso said it's misleading. M0 will have one system and then M1 t0 M3+ will have a different system and twice as expensive. Uninformed player will still stay uniformed but then they will be more advanced in the game. I would prefer to restart the game when I'm still at 50 k xp than 200xp when you find out your mistake on the MU pit fall.

My limit of MU for M0 is 1.

It is, but not all the way. And since there are more steps in M1, each individual step will be cheaper, meaning that players will be even more confused because it will seem like MUs for M1 are cheaper, when they are actually twice as expensive in the end.

When i open tanki it says install Abode Flash Player and i already have.Is it due to maintenance or only with me ?

If you're playing on Chrome we're aware of the problem and are working on it. I recommend you use the downloadable client instead.

Shall I Micro upgrade my M0 thunder to M1? and get the matrix or predator kit when available because I will get 100% discount on next modification.

No, not worth it.

I think it's great. On my first ever account I couldn't stop MU-ing my M0 titan because I didn't know how much it did relatively. Things like this to make the game-scale easier for new players are great! :)

I will get 100% discount on next modification plus the kit will be a lil more cheaper too.

If M1 thunder Mu'ing is costing 38k like normal m1 thunder then I'm gonna do it.

The kit price is not affected.
