Add a turret symbol to self-damage death messages

Maf

Recommended Posts

When a player self-destructs using their own weapon (which is possible with 6 of them, soon to be 7), the death message should also include an icon for their turret, to show that they didn't just fall of the map or press the delete key, but actually died to their own damage.

Also would be nice to see a difference between "delete" self-destructs and deaths from hitting any death-zones, like edge of Iran or falling off the map.

Inspiration taken from this idea :)

and...

Valid

...I guess

Randomer splashed himself. (Thunder)

Randomer failed at bouncing plasma. (Rico)

Randomer's unstable plasma experiments failed. (Twins) (Unstable Plasma Rico)

Randomer's pellets bounced onto himself. (Hammer)

Randomer's missiles exploded on him. (Striker)

Randomer overheated his turret. (Vulcan)

Randomer fired shots onto himself. (Artillery)

Randomer tried to escape the battlefield. (Hitting edges of maps like Iran)

Randomer fell off the edge. (Falling to SD like in Island)

Randomer tried to jump on buildings! (Parkour SD)

Randomer activated self destruct sequence. ("Delete" SD)

How are they, aye? The three before the delete SD might be hard to program separately tho :(

That's not what I meant though. I'm suggesting that the turret's symbol should be shown next to "self-destructed". No funny/weird phrases or anything.

I get it. Right. Turret's symbol + SD (like "Randomer SDed (symbol of turret)) Not bad an idea..

A red button symbol for when you self destruct by pressing delete.

Another symbol for when the system kills you because you went out bounds or something like that.

And another for when you change equipment.

That's it.

I think the funny phrases were implemented in the Worms game (I haven't played it for ages tho, but it was so fun  :P). Something like "Worm1 found a wet grave" when you jumped into the water.

Why would you want to know that?

Why would you want to know that?

To know how the player died. Sometimes it helps understand the situation better.

But yeah, this is definitely a less necessary feature. Something that would be nice to have, but isn't essential.

You know, instead of self-destruct, it would be more useful to see the turret symbol in the HUD when a player joins the battle. It would be useful in the selection of modules.

Something like: Maf [level of protection symbol] [turret symbol] joined

Yeah, and when changing equipment too.

Because it's a good topic to discuss about.

If you have something constructive to add - post it. But please don't bump old topics with replies that don't add anything to the discussion.

I rarely look at that corner of the screen. If a player SDs you have a skull to show that. In player kills player, are you actually going to read down the list to see who got killed by what? Do you really care if I got killed by Firebird or by Railgun?

In CTF, you see your flag bearer get killed and the flag is up for grabs. Are you going to sit there to see what killed him? Or are you going to try to grab the flag before the other team resets it? What difference does it make how he got kill, dead is dead (except in Tanki). How a player was killed is inconsequential.

Personally, all I need is the "tab" button. It has all the info I need to know.  Where I stand in battle tells me how effective I am. Whether half my team left or how many are left in the other team. Sometimes a quick glance at the individual scores will give a better indication of how well the battle is going. If the other team has a much higher score than we do, but we have 5 flags against their 0 flags, might indicate that they will swarm our base in the last couple minutes of battle and we lose. I think that's more important than what weapon killed which player.
