Will mouse and/or keyboard customization be available?

I am just curious if there will be the possibility to drive the tank using the mouse at Tanki ver 2.0 ? Binding of keys to mouse buttons?

Or at least the ability to customize the keys for the keyboard for different actions, and bound to the player profile preferences ?

I've played other much or less similar tanks games, and to be honest, I find the mouse driven rotation + shooting for the turret in addition to WASD + QE movement bound keys much more convenient.

Don't think so. This is a very bad idea, really.

Good concept, but will be hard to work properly. Turning etc will have to be very different from normal tanki to work well, the controls would have to become more like bzflag, and controls like that won't work well with normal tanki.

That is another matter, customizable keys are a feature that should be in Tanki 2.0, so lefties should have no problem there.

I too have asked about including mouse into control of the turret, it has been done many times in many other games, and it makes absolute sense to me.

I do not think that anything in turret turning rate should be changed. Turning rate is limited in speed and it should stay that way. Using a mouse comes naturally for any PC gamer, and would only attract masses to this game.

Any reasoning why this is a bad idea?

Try imagining how to use the mouse to move the tanki tanks if barely anything changes from what they are at the moment.

How? Move mouse forward, back, sideways? That will involve a new view and everything.

Click to go forward? No.

Scroll middle button to go forward? No thanks.

You see, the only option is the first one and that will involve a totally different concept to the game and need a new view in my opinion.

Well... I kinda like your idea but since I'm left-handed I prefer aiming and shooting with the Z' date=' X and space.[/quote']

Nice. I'm awesome at Z,X and space. Other people like to turn their tank instead of using Z,X to aim.

Just the contrary - it is a brilliant idea.

No offense, really, but I think you have zero experience with input devices, other than the standard keyboard.

What the customization of the keyboard keys and the mouse really introduces to the game:

- ability to change the keys for different actions by personal taste

- ability to use a mouse and map its buttons to keyboard keys

- ability to use a non-standard gamer keyboard

- ability to use a gamepad

- ability to use a joystick

- ability to use a wheel and pedals

- ability to use a VR helmet

- ability to use a VR glove

In short - all specialized gamer input devices can be mapped to keyboard and mouse device events, without the need to explicitly code the game for them.

I'd like to get back to this topic (I am aware it's been a while...)

I would not change WASD or arrows controls for driving a tank, I would just like the option added to, instead of using < and > for rotating turret - use mouse left and right motion. Space would not be for firing a gun, but for enabling mouse controlling the turret or enabling cursor to press menu buttons. Left mouse button would be for firing, and it would come naturally to every single person in the world who played Quake, Counter Strike, or any other PC based first person shooter or similar games. What in the world are you talking about scrolling to move??????

Turret rotating speed would naturally be limited to whatever it is in game engine, and mouse wheel could be used to change camera angle. I would not change game play in any way just add this option - it would catch on I am sure.

The problem with mouse turret rotation is its used almost exclusively in games where you can change the firing angle of your gun... which you can't do in tanki, so it would just be kind of moot.

- ability to change the keys for different actions by personal taste

planned in 2.0

(it's could to be realized now with help of programs like MKey)

- ability to use a mouse and map its buttons to keyboard keys

I like the way it's now. If you will use mouse you do not aiming faster(becouse rotating speed is limited, but any shake will spoil your shot

- ability to use a non-standard gamer keyboard

as a rule this kind of keyboards includes drivers with wide personal settings

- ability to use a gamepad

- ability to use a joystick

- ability to use a wheel and pedals

you can use it. Download Xpadder(http://forum.tankionline.com/posts/downloadAttach/8819.page)

- ability to use a VR helmet

- ability to use a VR glove

add here -ability to feel a smell of melting armor

how about we use wsda keys to drive and mouse to shoot and turn turrent?

It's browser game. Don't try to transfor it into high-end game with with blackjack and hookers. Flash is not best way to do this type of game, and one of the best points of this game is possibility to play anywhere you got internet and keyboard.

Many browser games support this kind of controls, WASD + mouse is very well transferred in many flash action games I know of. Saying that Adobe does not give a good basis for that, or that it is advantage you cannot use a mouse is just lame.

We are asking for an OPTION to use the mouse. There are ways to do it, just by capturing x coordinate of a mouse pointer. It would be really easy to implement, if you need help with that I can make a demonstration.

First: I do not said it's impossible. I said it's not needed. But I will say thanks if you gave me code that capture mouse in action window and do not allow leave window.

Second: this conversation does not make sence becouse this idea already was proposed and rejected

A simple graph would help out with the problem of mouse leaving the screen:

something like this, this size would be enough:

|------------------------------------|----------------------------------------|

max left . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . middle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . max right

with a simple pointer that would show where you are. It does not need to use extreme mouse positions (near the screen) so accidently leaving the screen would not occur often.

I think it is not possible to prevent mouse pointer leaving the window in flash, but Tanki online window is huge anyway.

The idea may be rejected (or rather not yet implemented), but adding a feature can attract more players, it cannot do the opposite.
