Help me choose

Recommended Posts

Just broke my laptop, so buying a new one.

I've finalized my choices to 2 laptops.

Option one:

HP Pavillion 15-511 TX.

8 GB ram.

Intel i3 6006u (2ghz)

Graphics Card:  AMD radeon r5 m430.

Option two:

HP pavillion 14 AM081TU

4 GB ram

Intel i5 6200 (2.3 ghz)

(Integrated Graphics)

Which one would give me better performance? I use my laptop for only some Tanki, youtube, general internet browsing, a bit of programming.

Which one would be better?

Cost is not the problem here. Though the first one is more expensive.

Rich boi

I say go for the first one as it has more RAM

You aren't looking to do anything that would require plenty of ram or a decent processor, so I think the 2nd one should be good enough.

The second one is much better, an i5 which is marginally more powerful than an i3 and the GPU is 30% faster in benchmarks since the m430 is pretty bad. The only sacrifice is 4gigs of ram which shouldn't make much difference considering the 8gigs would be bottlenecked by the i3 anyway.

Anyhow, the ram is upgradable should u need more: http://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c00820047

Thanks

Lux, how is a processor supposed to bottleneck ram?

Lux, how is a processor supposed to bottleneck ram?

It doesn't directly bottleneck it, for example, an operation which would use but not require 8Gigs would overload the processor.

3D rendering is a good example, most programs will optimise the rendering process for the amount of RAM available, though if the program used all the RAM the CPU would be overloaded causing other issues.

Theoretically this means your 8Gigs of RAM would NEVER be used, even in large multicore workloads, that certainly the case in my laptop.

hahaha xD

"normal" sized arrow keys were a main requirement for my laptop as well :P

Yes, I considered that. The laptop I'm ordering does have a numpad. I can replace arrow keys with numpad by changing the controls.

I wouldn't know. To me, both of those computers would be a step up. But, because you can often add RAM later, but not CPU speed, without thinking hard, I might lean towards the second option.

Thanks. I'm ordering the second one tonight. Moderators you may close this topic.  :)
