Map Background Music, unlockable

Recommended Posts

We can all conclude that Madness, is one of the most illustrious maps in the game, and the background music plays a prominent contribution to this. The eerie tune, that one hearkens for the first time at the rank of Sergeant-major, will always echo in their heads. As a Sergeant-Major myself, when I was aware of this map and its freakishly amazing music, I would spend countless hours going in rounds across the entire map, with the music at 100%. We need more moments like this that makes every map special.

Hence, why I suggest the *drumrolls* Map Soundtrack Feature [audience goes "wow" here]. This feature can be enabled or disabled by the user at any time (perhaps a separate icon to disable the music only). Every special map that is constantly played on will have a special soundtrack for players to enjoy while playing.

Here are some disadvantages that I have thought of:

Disadvantages

1. Creating soundtracks for all 75 maps is undoubtedly tedious and exhausting.

2. Tanki Online do not develop economically if this idea is considered and taken to practise.

3. These repetitive soundtracks can eventually bore the users and bother them.

4. Soundtracks being exclusive in only popular maps repels attention to other maps.

5. Tanki Online developers are too lazy to make soundtracks even for a small fraction of maps.

Solutions

1. These soundtracks are only exclusive to popular/special maps (eg: Sandbox, Lost Temple, Polygon...)

2. Perhaps these soundtracks can be earnt by getting a certain number of kills, experience and flag captures in the particular map - this makes the soundtracks feel as an achievement and what motivates and encourages players everyday. For the people who can't be asked to earn it, they are given the option to buy it (at a high price but please not $24).

3. There can be an icon to disable/enable just the soundtrack and nothing else.

4. Tanki Online is all about making all maps relevant, but they definitely will be too lazy to make soundtracks for all maps. Maybe we can add a different reward for not-so-popular maps such as different backgrounds (eg: new themes. I was thinking of instead of there being a Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio, we could award people a different location in Rio - I may make a new topic about this, but this idea could also be taken into consideration).

5. Face it. Tanki are pretty lazy, but we can't do much about it, since it is their game after all. I think a way to get these soundtracks is to host a tournament where tankers compete for the best soundtrack (that they must make preferably without lyrics) for a specific map. Winner gets a prize. The music must be related to the map - eg: In Lost Temple, perhaps a gong or loud bell once in a while.

I hope this topic has been engaging, informative and simple for you. If you have any queries, just comment down. This idea was inspired by myself, after lifelessly circuiting around the Madness map.

Thanks.

I like the idea of introducing new unlockable (or purchasable) content, but doing this with music just doesn't fit the game. To get a good set of songs that players could get, developers need to either buy existing music or make their own. Buying rights to music is expensive, while composing your own is time-consuming AND expensive. Also, having the same music on each map would become annoying really soon. Most players will disable the feature and it will end up being a waste of development time.

And I doubt that many would like the feature because why bother with completing challenges or spending crystals/money when you can just open a new tab with youtube (or a music player window) and play whatever music you like in the background for free?

Some tankers find that going on YouTube + Tanki at the same time creates lag. What is your opinion on the background images in the horizon of the maps? (see Solutions 4 for an example). However, some parts of your point are certainly valid - it will eventually bore players.

It's an unimportant part of the map that only exists so that the background isn't empty space (like what you see if you turn off sky). I honestly don't care what kind of image is there because I really don't pay any attention to it throughout the battle. The 6 or so backgrounds we have now are more than enough.

Good point. Also what's up with the *background image* in Madness? Looks like Skyscrapers now,

I assume that this will now be the background for the normal version of the map, while the low gravity mode will have the space background on Madness, as well as any other map.
