I'm gonna rank very soon, and im not sure if i should get m2 hunter/ shaft, fire, or mammy. i play polygon DM day in, day out, so I think M2 mammy and shaft would be good for me. later, i can get either M2 Smoky or M3 Thunder. I was wondering which was better, M2 Smoky or M3 Mammoth

After the new physics, M3 mammoth in DM will still rule, since it has such great HP, despite it losing some manueverability. M2 smoky is wonderful.... but you'll have to be careful about the paint protections, since Needle/Savanna are definitely on the rise. You also rely a little bit on luck, using Smoky, most of your kills will likely be from the critical hits. Most people agree that M2 smoky is alot better than M3 thunder. (I dont have either one so I can't tell you from experience - only from what I've heard.) But M3 thunder will still be useful in the future since there are more paints aside from Emerald that people are puchasing at this time.

I do however own M2 hunter and M2 shaft. Its the most recent addition to my garage, and boy it is AWESOME. I have fallen in love with it, though I don't play DM very often, I enjoy CTF the most since I play with friends majority of the time. I have played a few DM's though, and with shaft + hunter, if you get lucky with a nice spawn point, you're in an amazing position to score a nice sum of kills until someone finds you and makes you their priority. If you spawn in a bad location though, you're pretty much screwed. Sometimes its best to self-destruct repeatedly until you get a decent spawn point. (This usually doesnt take too long.) Since in DM's there are many druggers, and myself not being much of a drugger, I LOVE shaft, because I can pop a few double powers whenever I have a nice spawn, and maintain the same score - or higher, than those Mammy+twin/thunder/smoky druggers who are pressing 12345 the entire match! Shaft + nice spawn + DP = Profit.

M2 hunter, though it is a fairly small upgrade from its M1 version, I find it to be very useful, and it works great with any turret you like. Though you already own M2 viking you say? And M2 thunder? You purchased the Medium M2 Kit? If you have Viking at M2, theres no reason to buy M2 Hunter. Just stick with your M2 Viking. I could almost say the same about Mammoth M2, since M2 viking is fairly similar...

If I misunderstood, and your viking is only M1... well the M2 upgrade is definitely a nice one, but its a bit out of your rank... and its M3 isnt too impressive as it unlocks earlier than most M3s... but if you want an early M3, then this is good.

If you plan on purchasing M3 thunder in the future, I would suggest using it on Hunter or Hornet, because it allows you to make full use of the splash damage by making ground-shots by accelerating, and then braking, causing your shot to aim downwards. If you time your shots properly and become a master at this, you can really make Thunder shine. I suggest a lighter hull for this because with Mammoth, its harder and or impossible to shoot close-ranged ground shots because it doesnt tilt far enough forwards/backwards. Thunders splash damage is incredible if you can use it to its max potential.

Hunter works awesome with every single turret you listed. I own M2 Freeze/Isida myself, and Hunter is a perfect fit. It also fits firebird well. I considered purchasing M2 fire as well, when I bought my M2 shaft, but I held off and figured 1 new turret was enough. I think I made a good choice with M2 shaft, but again it depends on the sort of player you are, if you prefer close range weaponry, which maps you like, and the game modes.

Firebird will easily be kill-stolen in DM. It lights up the target bright red and basically tells everyone else, "Shoot me, shoot me! Im low on HP!"

Smoky is great for all game modes and maps, and its criticals are very enjoyable, especially when you get multiple crits in a row. It can save you in emergency situations, such as if someone spawns right next to you in a DM match and you're low on HP, 1st shot crit before they can do anything will definitely make you smile, and make them rage! And in CTF, a critical at the right time can save the match of whether the enemy caps your flag, or you cap theirs!

Shaft is again great for all game modes, but you have to choose your maps wisely. Shaft is also harder to use than Smoky/Firebird. This does NOT limit you to only 'large' maps by any means. There are alot of wonderful medium and small, yes SMALL sized maps where shaft works extremely well in the right hands. If you enjoy spawn-killing opponents, and making them rage quit, this weapon is totally for you.

Hope this helps! :)

Edit: I wish others would give true insightful replies such as I have given above. Its rare for many here who post in this thread to give useful information... how about instead of just typing single word, or single sentence answers, you actually put some effort into helping the person by giving some depth in your reply. It seems like the only person aside from myself who I see doing this is DidYouKnowThat.

Kind of obvious right. . . .

Twins' firing rate will be slowed. Once you hit an opponent, it won't be like before where you'll land a bunch of hits in such little time. You won't be able to immobilize them. They will run from you. And you'll need speed to catch them.

So picture this, you're a sitting duck. Your shots cannot go through tanks like other guns. You really wont be able to hide. And other tanks can do simple things like Peek-a-Boo tactic to kill you.

Not to mention the range. . .

If you must get a Heavy tank, the best you can do is with Titan.

So would you recommend smoky rather than twins?

Many people prefer Smoky M2 to Thunder M3. Smoky does a high amount of damage in a short period of time, firing so quickly, as it does. Also, this makes it very hard for opponents to aim, especially Rails, the most damaging weapon there is. Thunder has the self-damage drawback, too. When using a larger hull, tanks will press against you as you blow yourself up, but smaller hulls at the M3 ranks are quick to die when trying to fire off multiple shots in the open. I think Smoky would be better, though if you simply do better with Thunder then get it instead.

Hi guys I prefer Hornet with rail, freeze or isida. If u dont like any of these get Mammoth and smoky it will be a good combination. I have freeze m1 and smoky m1 and isida m1 i am saving up for hornet m1 and rail m1. So try use mid ranged guns in mid ranged maps so like higland freeze will be goood. rail or shaft for serpuhov.

m3 thunder or m2 smoky? answer soon

I bought both....had the exact same question....now my hull is hornet m2 and i always got better results when i had thunder m3 mounted on it....unless your amin hull is m2 wasp, get thunder....it will go great with most hulls....unlike smoky which needs certain hulls. I keep in mind that you drug and play lots of silence so....I really think thunder is the only choice you should make here...nothing better than a druggy thunder.
