What to buy? Which is better?

Recommended Posts

Consider those articles read. Which server do most english speakers play on. I've been on the UK server but it seems most ppl chat in Russian so it makes communicating difficult unless I learn the language

Quick addition: Micro upgrades. I understand they made a modification better, but when I actually buy the next mod, do the upgrades fall off or do they roll over. When should I purchase them

Great question!

Okay, so firstly, this is a problem that is being looked into and a ton of ideas have already been suggested in order to solve this problem (for example, the chat wheel idea). All the EN/RU/DE/PL servers were merged together, which, along with bringing a lot of advantages (such as so many battles to play, no more server switching to find battles) also brought this language problem. Unfortunately, right now, there's nothing you can do in order to find English-speaking people. However, this was deemed as the first step towards the Matchmaking System.

Next up, micro-upgrades. When you purchase a next modification of a turret, let's say you are buying Smoky M2 having M1, then no matter how many steps of micro-upgrades you had on M1 will fall off when you purchase M2. However, if you complete the steps on one upgrade, then the next upgrade will be provided to you free of cost, at 0 Crystal.png.

The best modification to start micro-upgrading is M2. Micro-upgrading M0s and M1s is not worth it and as a free player, it will leave one stranded without any crystals when he/she reaches the M2 ranks. Once you get hold of a good, M2/M2 (turret and hull both M2) combination, start upgrading them one-by-one and do not speed up the micro-upgrade. This is because M2s start unlocking as low as Warrant Officer 3, but last till Marshal. After that, you'll get the M3 for free at Marshal, and you continue your way higher into the game.

the twins now is worse than the twins last time dont think that it is very good(unless you buy the m1 alt ) railgun m1 is better than twins in most of the situation

I disagree. Twins is much better than the old one.

The splash damage really helps when a gold drops.

I have two things to say, the only M1s I got without upgrading my M0 are Firebird and Mammoth. For my Twins, Isida, Wasp, and Hunter, I micro-upgraded them from M0 to M1. I belive MUs are better than getting the next version all at the same time, except for protection modules. Buy upgrading your equipment before you get the next version, it will mean you will be more powerful than those who don't MU.

For example, say 2 players had fire-wasp M0. One decides to micro-upgrade, while the other will just wait to unlock the M1s. During that wait, the player who MUs will gradually become more powerful that the one who decides to save up and wait.

The second thing I have to say is; what M2 unlocks at Warrant Officer 3? Based on what I know, the earliest M2, Freeze, unlocks at Warrant Officer 5.

They don't roll over.

If you MU thunder M1 to 4/10, than buy Thunder M2, it will be Thunder M2 0/10

Basically, you wasted crystals (unless you got the Thunder modification during a sale)

Pardon me, even I was wrong. Freeze M2 unlocks as part of the Siberian kit at Warrant Officer 2. However, it unlocks separately at Warrant Officer 5.

All these kits unlock below the rank of Warrant Officer 5 and contain M2s:

So would the cost of Muing be about the same as waiting to buy the next one? If so why would I not do that?

First off, MUing a turret or hull is the exact same price as buying the turret or hull of that modification as long as you don't use speedups. However, if the turret or hull is available at your rank, it is much less expensive to try catch the turret or hull on a sale, and the process of MUing becomes an irrational decision.

Personally, I'm MUing my Hammer to M2. BUT, this is because I've already bought the Stinger kit, so I don't have to worry about being outclassed by other opponents with M2s. The only reason that I myself am going through the tedious process of MUs is that I have a full 3 ranks until M2 Hammer unlocks, AND because M3s don't unlock for another 700k experience, so I don't quite need to save crystals yet. After getting M2 Hammer, I will MU my M2 Hornet and Hammer to M3.

My general rule of thumb is such: If the next modification does not unlock for more than 100k experience, and you already have another M2 combination, then it is, IMO, preferable to MU.

Good point, but let me add something here: MUing something in M0 or M1 stages is a complete waste of crystals as there is only a very slight rank difference till you unlock M2s, which is, of course, Warrant Officer 2. However, by all means, if you think that you're getting a stable income from battles and you know yourself that you play a sufficient amount of time to gain profit in crystals, then MUing M1s gives a ton of advantage as barely anyone has protections against anything in those low ranks.

BUT, see, this is where logic comes into play. Let's say that you upgraded Smoky M1 to 10/10 MUs, now you will unlock Smoky M2 for free at the rank of Colonel. However, wouldn't it be better if I buy Smoky M2 as part of a product kits around three ranks earlier (at the rank of Captain and then MU it to 10/10 so that it becomes M3)?

All in all, it depends on your playing style in the end. If you like defending, buy Freeze M2 at Warrant Officer 2 and MU it straight away to M3, you'll find it extremely easy to kill people with it seeing as real M3s unlock almost fifteen ranks away at Marshal.

(Which is what I did on my alternate account: @Hexane)

Hunter M0 - upgraded to M1 well before unlock  rank of W04 is certainly OP.

My question is - how the heck does anyone (except a buyer) afford the Predator Kit at even close to unlock rank?

Yes, but I always viewed as MUing M0s as a waste because you can just by M2s at WO2 if you save up good.

The Predator kit is a overpriced because of the Cheetah paint, which costs 300k crystals. Instead, but the Matrix kit for only 48.9k which gives you Thunder M1, Viking M1 and Panther D-D M1 (Twins, Ricochet). It's definitely a better option.

Shaft's role is being a sniper, taking out enemies from far away and making the job easier for teammates/attackers.

That was the role the developers intended for it. But they were somehow crazy enough to give it stats that made it the omni potent one man arsenal that tears through anyone anywhere which it is today. Edited by GuidoFawkes

Two things: First, is there a place to discuss things like this? I think TO is one of the most balanced games I've played, which is somewhat limited, but even so, is there a place to bring up suggestions?

Onto this topic: I enjoy using both close and long range weapons, but cant seem to find a midrange one that I enjoy. They seem to be Smokey, Thunder, Twins, and Ricochet unless Im missing one. How do there compare to each other and what roles do they play. Lets just assume all the same mod level

Yeah you forgot the king of them all : Hammer!

Edit : actually shaft too works very well at mid range

Clearly you haven't played many games and don't have that much experience in TO.

Clearly. Ok you called me out on my limited knowledge. Well played. I have pretty much seen every turret and hull played and besides supplies being the deciding factor in pretty much most games, could you elaborate on what you mean. I thought hammer was a short range weapon and shaft being long. Of those weapons, which would be the stronger ones? Forgive me if I'm asking too many questions...trying to learn quickly

  • Magnum is stupidly OP
  • Drugs ruin the game
  • Overdrive is a poor mechanic that results in one-sided battles
  • The way in which M3s unlock is not balanced at all, despite what the devs say
  • Rank brackets are huge
  • Ricochet, Twins, and Firebird alteration are way too powerful
  • The game is P2W

Interesting, thanks for answering. My reasons for asking is that Im still ironing down which combos to upgrade. I like both Wasp and Hornet, and it seems Viking is popular so Ill probly stick with those for now. As for turrets, Im not sure how much I'll be able to afford, but Id like a short medium and long range option. So far Im Firebird and shaft for short and long. The midrange option is still open. I know railgun is very popular and smokey always seems to kill me. But Thunder also appears a lot. I see Twins sometimes but never really got into that

Wasp and Hornet have the same HP but different handling. In the long run I think it is better to stick with the one you like more, so you don't have to waste crystals on both. Viking is arguably the best medium hull M2 and up. Thunder and Rico are quite good for mid-range.

you can participate in gold rains and win contests to get that amount of crystals

Good point! Contests featured in the Newspaper generally reward about 25-40k if you win them, so that's like 95% of the value right there. Other than that, there's contests on Facebook, Community Events and official contests like Crazy Weekend. Furthermore, there's Tanki Thinking Challenge and plus, your own Daily Missions. So there's a lot of ways you can earn crystals.

Hey everyone. I currently have 150k crystals and i am a third lietuentent. i have never bought any with money. Just effective planning and strategy. And its becoming a bit hard for me ( i can go on for a little longer still though) with the siberian kit with me at present. Any suggestion which very good long lasting and op m2 kit i should buy. Should i save more and go up a little more rank or should i buy any very good kit that is available at this price at my rank....

I would recommend waiting to rankup, then buying Firewall kit, since you only have 13k left and you have 100k experience with your Fire M1.

At your rank, Siberian kit is more than enough. Save your crystals for when you get to higher ranks ( and above). Then, when you're at a higher rank, I would suggest buying one of the kits with which you will easily gain EXP and earn crystals (Firewall [; 206 045 Crystal.png], Minotaur [; 203 225 Crystal.png], Glaze [; 194 400 Crystal.png], Ram [; 181 250 Crystal.png], Northerner [; 193 020 Crystal.png], Atlas [; 188 520 Crystal.png], etc.). If you're interested, you can check the full list of current product kits here.

I would disagree. With the current state of the game such as it is - M3s at WO5 - I don't think that you can survive without an M2 hull or a decent M2 turret, even. Freeze is, I would say, by far the worst M2 turret out there. TBH, I'm barely surviving even with M2 Isida, which is actually quite a decent turret.
