Luscious Limmy's GUIDE TO LIFE

YOUNG LOVE...

So I had the question from a Clan friend ... wondering about romance around 14/15/16 years old.  Although there is really no right or wrong answer to this, or to anything for that fact, life is about learning and getting new perspectives.  Would love to hear YOUR thoughts on this too (cuz my kids are just entering this phase of their lives)!!

My thoughts:

A romance is what you do with it.  Every day is a new day, with new turns, that create connections or consequences.
Love is a pretty deep subject, and everyone can have different interpretations of what the "right love" will look like.
Its perfectly normal to have a crush on someone.  Cool to get to know them in a new and unique way.
Just be prepared for the gut wrenching heartache that comes along with the first ever breakup.  Cuz they do happen.  Even the 15yo sweethearts that got married in their 20's and had kids ... sometime in their 30's start to realize that they just never had the chance to grow up on their own, and then breakup.
Life is about the experiences, the personal growth, the confidence in yourself, how you can help others be confident.  Know what makes you happy, and search that out.
But be prepared for the breakup.  Breaking up and making sure everyone can save face is important.  You just never realize how small the world can be, and how the people you meet along the way "may" have the chance to impact your future...  Respect.

I have personal experience. Had a very easy breakup, probably because the relationship was unofficial. I wonder about the girl though. She was very much into me and I was getting creeped out.

Now I am questioning life, hence all my poems

Thanks [member=trooll] for your comment!!

Ya, breaking up is usually MUCH easier when you are the one who has decided to make it happen.  But some day, at some point, it will be the girl who decides for you.  Don't fear the upcoming gut-wrenching agony.  It helps build us up to be better...  :P

Girls think differently than guys.  I constantly am trying to figure out how to break this to my daughter.  Life isn't the Disney princess story.  Relationships take work, commitment, mutual respect, and caring enough to have good communications back and forth.

But honestly, I wouldn't worry about it until you are in College / University, where people will start to find their potentially lifelong partners.  Meet different people with different ideas and views, and see what you can learn about the types of people you mesh the best with!

Aaaah, young loves...  so wide-eyed and fresh.  I'd love to say more - but - well - just know that time changes things.  And if you want a relationship to work beyond days and weeks and months, to years or decades - it will morph into something new, and both people need to stay committed to working on it.

How 2 Stay Happy

So was randomly chatting with someone who read these posts, and got these questions thrown out to me:

  • How do you manage to stay so happy and cheerful at all times?
  • To be honest with myself, I'm mostly a cynical, sad guy.  I mostly find myself questioning, why bother doing anything? Why does anything even matter?

Well, the first one is a pretty bold thought.  I could definitely find an argument in the “at all times” portion.  However, and I forget how much I may have already written exactly on the subject, I think it boils down to a few key things.

 - Life is, as it was meant to be, and so it shall continue to be.

 - We have the choice to define how we interpret what happens around us.

 - Garbage will happen all the time, why get hung up on it.

 - It’s good to have some goals in life.

When things suck, do you want to complain about it and be the victim all the time?  Why?  Doesn’t that get tiring?  Instead, decide on something that you can control around you and try to make it better.  In a circle of friends, or a group of co-workers, people will usually be complaining about something.  Sit back and decide what you can do about it.  Anything?  Especially if it is the SAME thing again and again, bugging multiple people every week or month, this has an opportunity to Add Value written all over it!

I had decided a long time ago that I liked helping people and solving problems.  Luckily, those go well together.  You don’t need to have the same focus in life – but you DO need to figure out what makes you happy.  Because you are more likely to succeed if you decide what you enjoy and do well.

RE the age old question of “WHY BOTHER?”.… Dude, every person / teen hits this.  And it recurs again and again throughout life, just hopefully with less frequency and severity as you get older.  Again, this is where some goals can come into play.  It is really cool to have a SMART goal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMART_criteria) and then find out you have achieved it.  Whether it be with a school class that is hard, meeting a girl (or boy), personal body image, work projects, etc.  When you find out you can do just about anything you put your mind to, with the right hard work / effort and coaching or research … MAN..! it feels awesome to succeed.  Then you start thinking of what you could do next.

But beware, a lot of people trying to make S.M.A.R.T. goals are really going about it rather DUMB.  No acronym for that, just plain old dumb.  You can drive really fast, but be going in the wrong direction.  Stop and look and listen to those around you.  Accept information as gifts.  Be open to learning how to be better, and not just think you are the best already.  Learning is a lifelong process.  Take it easy and enjoy!

Hey mate, just wanted to say you're doing a great job. The forum needs a little more you - great role model, experienced with life and this game, and perfectly willing to share said experience with whoever will listen. Don't stop speaking from the heart like you always do.

Cheers.

The more you try to make others happy the happier you will be.

Thanks @ThirdOnion!...

hey, curious why the 3rd onion name?  I really like onions, especially fried, but after the 1st, I'm usually good...

JOB HELP / INTERVIEWS?

So I had mentioned to someone that I was looking to hire a new person.  Forget the fact that she is a pretty blond 24yo that has played ice hockey and roller hockey internationally (North America / Europe / Asia)...  I have watched her train, and come back repeatedly to the gym where we work out.  If you come back to this place after the 1st visit, you have to have some sort of mental stamina to push through the physical stresses they put us in...

 - back to topic -

The questions came = How does this hiring thing work?   Of course there's an interview, but is there like a vote or something?

This isn't rocket science, but possibly helpful to someone in the future.  Since we are all Tanki Brothers & Sisters here, figured I could share the inside scoop.

ANSWER:  You need to get noticed to get a job.  Have the best marks coming out of school, have volunteered in an organization (church/temple/FeedTheHomeless/charity) - especially if the president supports it and thus you have met them already, or you need to know someone through something - family/sports/etc.

The hiring manager (person who you will "report" to [like ur teacher]) is the one who gets most of the "vote", if you could say that there even is a vote.  They, if smart, want other opinions - like from the Human Resources team, their boss, etc.  So you will likely meet 2 or 3 or 4 people.

If you get in the door for an interview, they have already decided that you have the qualifications to do the job, so don't sweat about that part.  They have narrowed your resume from 100's or 1000's down to 10 or 20.  Now they just want to see your personality, how you would fit, that you can speak intelligently... that you 'present' nicely.  Confidence is good, but there is a fine line to being pompous ass that they will scratch out...

Just be the best cleaned-up version of yourself, and if it is the right place for you to be, at the right time, then it will work out!

Good Luck!!!

Hey Limitfull!

Just scanning occasionally once in a while and I remembered this thread.

Just a sidenote about what's going on for me:

Recently for a language arts/literature project we were assigned to find poems describing yourself. It was sort of an eye-opening experience to learn about myself and about literature, as I had previously only associated poems with old literature geeks sitting at their desks all day, just hard-core crunching out words (XD).

Anyways, here's the poems I chose:

"I Hear America Singing"

BY WALT WHITMAN
I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear,
Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should be blithe and strong,
The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam,
The mason singing his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,
The boatman singing what belongs to him in his boat, the deckhand singing on the steamboat deck,
The shoemaker singing as he sits on his bench, the hatter singing as he stands,
The wood-cutter’s song, the ploughboy’s on his way in the morning, or at noon intermission or at sundown,
The delicious singing of the mother, or of the young wife at work, or of the girl sewing or washing,
Each singing what belongs to him or her and to none else,
The day what belongs to the day—at night the party of young fellows, robust, friendly,
Singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs.

"Here"

BY JOSHUA MEHIGAN
Nothing has changed. They have a welcome sign,
a hill with cows and a white house on top,
a mall and grocery store where people shop,
a diner where some people go to dine.
It is the same no matter where you go,
and downtown you will find no big surprises.
Each fall the dew point falls until it rises.
White snow, green buds, green lawn, red leaves, white snow.

This is all right. This is their hope. And yet,
though what you see is never what you get,
it does feel somehow changed from what it was.
Is it the people? Houses? Fields? The weather?
Is it the streets? Is it these things together?
Nothing here ever changes, till it does.

"Fifteen, Maybe Sixteen Things to Worry About"

Judith Viorst, 1931
My pants could maybe fall down when I dive off the diving board.
My nose could maybe keep growing and never quit.
Miss Brearly could ask me to spell words like stomach and special.
     (Stumick and speshul?)
I could play tag all day and always be “it.”
Jay Spievack, who’s fourteen feet tall, could want to fight me.
My mom and my dad—like Ted’s—could want a divorce.
Miss Brearly could ask me a question about Afghanistan.
     (Who’s Afghanistan?)
Somebody maybe could make me ride a horse.
My mother could maybe decide that I needed more liver.
My dad could decide that I needed less TV.
Miss Brearly could say that I have to write script and stop printing.
     (I’m better at printing.)
Chris could decide to stop being friends with me.

The world could maybe come to an end on next Tuesday.
The ceiling could maybe come crashing on my head.
I maybe could run out of things for me to worry about.
And then I’d have to do my homework instead.

"If—"

By Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Hopefully these poems gave you something to think and ponder about!

Hey Fleety!  Ur so awesome bro...!

Thx for the life update!

The first poem, Walt Whitman - interesting, since I just finished watching Season 5 of Breaking Bad recently on Netflix, and that book of poems was the undoing of our other favorite W.W. -> Walter White ... Heisenberg ... The Cook.

The last poem from RK, that's a classic.  Not sure I remember seeing the whole thing before, but I've heard and recognize so many verses from it!

The middle two - life, what ifs, what to focus your energy on.  It's a choice.  You can make it.  You can decide not to worry.

  -  Thanks for sending them all along!!

You know ... so I was on my way to work today, sun is up, and it's like 10C (50F) - feels warm for Canada in February - so I'm feeling good.  Song comes on in the car, from my phone... and old favorite from last year, still a current like - upbeat music.  Good memories!  You, Abs, BD30, Kaiser, and even DoS before he disappeared for a while.  Even JaneDoe, the reason I started writing the first post of this series.  April 1 is coming up on my 2nd anniversary on Tanki, so a year ago I was anxiously hitting 1 year!

SONG = DJ Tiesto - On My Way:

It goes like this:
I ain't no millionaire, but I'm on my way.

Can't find love, but hell, I'm on my way.

When the world gets heavy, you might hear me say - I'm on my way!
There's a little devil in us all, swear everybody in this town, just wants to see you fall.

Baby, it's not fun, so know, it's just a game.

Keep running out of love, and I don't go giving up, when I'm running out of love.

Let's say I've had enough, and I don't go giving up, I said it all before...

  • I ain't no millionaire, but I'm on my way.
  • Can't find love, but hell, I'm on my way.
  • When the world gets heavy, you might hear me say - I'm on my way!

Starts me thinking ... why did I like this song...?   It's got a nice beat, and it's a nice message.

No matter what crap is coming at me, I'm just gonna keep going!

Missing love, don't got enough money, heavy issues going on ... doesn't matter - still on my way.

Reminded me of some positive times when I lived in the Bahamas.  The common response to Hi, how are you today?  Was "Right here, mon - I'm right here".  That said to me - I'm here, I'm alive, crap of life doesn't get me down, I'm here, and I'm talking to you, and all is good.

Right here, mon!  Peace out!

I posted this on another page, but had to write it here also for the message...

Wow.  Just wow.
I don't know where to start, but I must start somewhere.

13 Reasons Why on NETFLIX - was freaking awesome.  And scary and intense and heart-wrenching.  I just finished watching the end this week.

       https://13reasonswhy.info/

This website has the trailer and some other information about it, as well as the "Beyond the Reasons" show.

Please, for our teen-aged clan buddies and buddettes, I really really ask that you watch this with a trusted adult.  There are things that may not make sense, where someone older who loves you, and who you trust, can help work through.  Maybe start with the 29min "Beyond the Reasons" that shows the producers (Selena Gomez!) and cast and advisors talking about it.  I wish I saw that first, I would have been sooo much more curious to watch it from the start.

Your parents may think these will be hard conversations, and they can be.  However, I am SO TOTALLY going to need to do this again, but with my family, because I think it has some serious life help.  It's just too OP to ignore!

I post this for a few reasons.  The show is focused on a suicide.  I know that topic has come up here and around before, which is why I had to post this.  But wow, to see it laid out from a teenage girl's point-of-view was insane.  To see how it impacted lives around her.  To see how other people had completely different interpretations of the events as they happened and were shared in the moment.

It is driven from shaming and cyber-bullying and relationships and rape.  This stuff can happen, and particularly where there are guy-girl things happening in real life, it is so important to know what is right and wrong, to know what respect for our human brothers and sisters looks like (or doesn't, so you can avoid it).  Everyone has a right to control their own body.  It is no one else's right to take, or hurt, or abuse.

I care about you all.  Seriously, if your parent doesn't want to watch it with you (or you don't want to watch it with them), and you have the means to view it, I AM HERE.  Hit me by Forum - Skype - Discord PMs.  I am willing to try and help.  To hear your story, or explain alternatives.  Bad things do NOT need to happen.  Knowledge can be power.  And life does get better.  I'd guess 9/10 people, or more, have considered taking their own lives, yet so much less than 1% ever try.  High school and cliques and cool or not can be troubling.  But through university, and then afterwards, these things are so much less important.

Take good care of yourselves, and of your friends and family.  We can all make it better.

@RevengeAttacker ... call it my Dear Diary.

It's been helping me get through some things, or give ideas to my friends that I've met in Tanki, and hopefully helping others realize that their parents can be just as screwed up as them, or that other people have problems too.   Life is meant to be experienced.  Safely and within the law of course, but learning and hearing from people around the world can help our own growth.  #MindBlowing

EDIT - OMG, I just realized I started this 1 year ago tomorrow!
Wait a sec, can you combine the past and future at the same time???  What do you call that intersection - right now?
