Vainglory, the MOBA perfected to touch

Hello I_Am_Unkown here with unfortunately, some bad news. I won’t be continuing the story, Anima due to personal reasons. However, I will be starting a series of Vainglory lore. This will be a series of stories based off of Vainglory characters. You can see a list of these characters here

My favorite hero is Kestral, so I’ll be writing a story on her first.

Each of these heroes have a unique character which means that there will be plenty of stories for me to write. But in this article, I’ll just be giving you a background on Vainglory, a very popular game similar to LoL (League of Legends). It is a MOBA (Massive online battle arena) game. There are no A.I.s in this game, except in practice mode. There are currently three battle modes, Casual/Ranked (20-30 minutes each), Battle Royale (5-7 minutes each), and Blitz (5 minutes each). Every battle consists of three players versing each other, with unique objectives in each battle mode. I’ll give quick review on each mode.

Casual/Ranked

To start with, the objective of this mode is simply to destroy the other team’s turrets, which allows you to destroy the enemies crystal. The battle takes place on what’s called the Halcyon Fold. Your team usually consists of three categories: A lane, a protector, and a jungler.

The lane hero is mainly in charge of destroying the turrets, and keeping your team’s minions and the other team’s minions under control. Minions are weak A.I. creatures whose sole objective is to destroy the enemy turrets. The lane hero is in charge of assisting these minions in destroying the enemy turret.

The protector hero, often called the captain hero, is in charge of keeping the team alive. He/she often roams around the battle assisting both the lane hero and the jungle hero. In large 3 v 3 fights, he/she will often tank damage as captain heroes often have large amounts of health, but little damage.

The jungler hero is in charge of keeping the jungle section of the map under control. Often a balanced hero, with enough health and damage to keep himself/herself alive, the jungler hero is often the hardest hero to play. You will need to shown at every 3 v 3 battle, and be able to level yourself up quickly, without dying.

You can level up by killing basically anything. Naturally of course, you will level up after sometime. However you can speed up this process by killing heroes, minions, jungle minions (minions that just sit around and don’t do anything unless you attack it, in which case they will start attacking you), Crystal Miners (basically minions that are bigger, tougher, and protect your team), and Gold Miners, (minions that help collect gold for your team). Doing any of these things will level you up, which allows you to level up your abilities.

Each hero has 3 unique abilities that can be leveled up and powered up by buying things in the shop. You can buy things in the shop by using gold which is earned by again, killing basically anything in the game. Of course you earn gold at a steady rate by doing nothing. Now, what can you buy in the shop. Well, ultimately, the easiest way to know what to buy is by choosing a recommended set up. At the beginning you will be asked whether you want to pick a recommended item path, or a manual item path. If you are a beginner at this game, I would HIGHLY recommend picking and item path, as it will be easiest for you to understand.

Battle Royale

In this mode, it's basically a quicker version of the Casual mode, except there is no jungle. You just need to destroy the turrets, then the enemy crystal, while keeping in mind that your the other team also wants to win.

Blitz

This mode is basically an accelerated casual match. Lasting no longer than 5 minutes, the objective is not to destroy the enemy crystal, but instead reach 15 points. Your team can obtain points by:

Killing an enemy hero - 1 point

Killing a Gold Miner or Crystal Miner - 3 points

Destroying a turret  - 3 points.

If the timer reaches 5 minutes, and neither team has reached 15 points, whoever has the most points will automatically win. If in the case it reaches 5 minutes and it's a tie game, whoever gets the next point will win.

And there are the three battle modes, and I’ll now be giving a quick description on your abilities.

Each hero has a set of three unique abilities, ability A, ability B, and your ultimate. Each hero usually has at least one ability that will have a special overdrive effect. You can obtain the overdrive effect once you fully upgrade the ability. Abilities A and B both have 5 upgradable spots, while your ultimate has only 3. But since there are only 12 levels in the game, you can only upgrade all upgrade spots except for one. So choose wisely!

If you are beginner at a hero, I would highly recommend choosing a build path instead of a custom build path. This means that a computer will automatically pick which items to buy in the shop.

There are two shops that you can use. One at your home base, and one in the center of the jungle. Once you get close enough to the shop, you will be able to pick which items to buy. Items can upgrade your weapon power, crystal power, add utilities to your hero, and a variety of other things as well. But again, when you’re a beginner to the game, I would highly recommend choosing a build path to have a computer pick which items you should buy (please note that choosing a build path will also allow the computer to help you pick which abilities to upgrade as well).

And that’s it, luck with all my fellow VainGlory fellows out there, and good luck at conquering your enemies in the Halcyon Fold!!!!

I will be posting VainGlory lore soon!!
