"Forum clock" always on display in a corner

Recommended Posts

Wey there fellow tankers! ^_^

I have noticed that the forum and the timestamps on anything posted in it are all in UTC+1. But, of course, many players do not live in such time zone. Therefore, it can be a nuisance when a user has to attempt a conversion because the time displayed on their PC does not correspond to the one in the forum (i.e. when a user, viewing the timestamp of a reply, wants to figure out really how much time has passed since it was posted).
I believe that the implementation of a "forum clock" would be a nice and helpful feature: just a simple, one lined, --:--:-- format clock always on display in an upper corner of the forum would do the job!
Additionally, it does not seem to me that there can be any significant disadvantages of having this. ;)

Valid

The forum has a weird system for displaying time, so I'm not sure if this is going to work. We might try to work on it eventually, but keep in mind that this isn't a high-priority task.

Well, correct me if I got you wrong..

When you quote someone, then HIS time what appears in YOUR quote is the time what was for YOU when HE posted...(this could be bit confusing to explain through words)...and it is not the UTC+1.

And when you post, the time what appears in post is the UTC time, so we can match it by keeping a track of it...

For example, my timezone is UTC+5:30, so all that I need to do is add 5:30 hrs to the time and I'll easily be able to know the time that has passed since the post was made..

(Well, I know it involves labour..so until the idea is completed, this was just a trick for you ;) )

Yes. I understand it, Buri.

Right now, the quote says that you posted it at 13:12 which is 1:12 PM for me. It's 1:15 PM for me here and so, while quoting, my computer's time appears. But, while posting, UTC +1 appears.

We don't get UTC+1..we get UTC...

Like, for your post, it shows that you posted at 7:45. This is the UTC..while it shows (in your post) that I posted on 13:12, that's 1:12pm, and that's your time...

Right?

Okkey dokkey! Now this helped me sort of realize just how messy the situation actually is with this forum...

Differently from you, I do indeed view all original topics and posts on this forum in the UTC+1 (aka CEST) time zone.

I remember that when I first joined Tanki Online, I was situated in Italy, where the CEST time zone is adopted. That might be the cause of my current issue with the forum's time, but I cannot state that for sure. -_-

For any quotes instead, I do notice my actual time zone -- the time zone of where I am currently living -- being used: United States eastern shore which is UTC-4 aka EDT.

Interesting fact (for me, because I just discovered it): I can view the actual UTC time if I hover with my cursor on top of a post's timestamp...

It says I posted previous post at 11:55 but I'm in UTC+2 and its 2:55 here. Thateans forum clock is UTC-1

I think you have just messed up your  UTC time. It is correct at my place. :)

I think we should be able to choose our country and the clock should automatically come up with the time in our Timezone. In the Wiki it works that way and we can see what time people edited things in OUR Timezone.

Yes indeed! Or that, or set the forum time to UTC and have it universal for all users, so that everyone can easily correlate different user's posts and get a better sense of time when it comes down to published events and tournaments because, I believe, all times announced in them are in UTC. ^_^

Well, yeah...you're right...

And btw, the thing about 'shifting your timezone' was a new discovery for me...coz I didn't have any friend posting from multiple timezones, nor did I ever notice it myself whenever I had moved physically through timezones...gonna try that next time I travel :p
