WannaCry

Um...a group of people called Shadow Brokers broke into NSA's computers and stole a bug/codes that contained Microsoft Windows exploits.

One of them was called as Eternal blue which wasn't patched by microsoft in older versions like XP and vista majorly.

So some hacker group used this exploit to create a malware. This malware was maybe sent to a number of email-id's under some interesting Topic.

E.g: I sent you that malware under pdf format and title the email as scholarship program, Wedding ceremony, etc that a human tends to open. As soon as you open the pdf, you read it but the contents hidden in the pdf file executes itself and install in that pc. Hereafter, through a open port mentioned in eternalBlue exploit (SMB port) the ransomware is transferred automatically to any pc on  that network. This happens due to old versions of windows lack the patch of that port. Some PC's got infected

Like this, via emails and local wifi connections and ports this ransomware spread itself.

Try to read below sentence lets see if you can read it.

Hi Dude! Wassup? This is just a small trick. Imagine what hackers can do by hiding malwares in any communicable format! xD

Some of the better antiviruses can catch the Trojan before it does damage. But once the computer is infected, there is no way the files can be decrypted without paying the ransom.

This is where backing up your files off line such as a storage chip comes in handy. But how many of us home computer users do this? Corporations should do this on a regular basis, but apparently, they are not, since it's mostly corporations that are being infected.

The only protections are:

1)...back up important files

2)...have a good antivirus and keep it updated

3)...check for any and all updates (Windows, browser, drivers, etc). Good preventative maintenance.

4)...don't open any emails, pdf's or click on any links from unknown sources, no matter how good it sounds. Instead, go directly to that website to learn about the offer.

5)...don't click on any links for updates. Instead, go directly to the web page. A few years ago, I nearly got caught on that one. The link took me to a page that looked legitimate, but the wording was wrong and some of the words were misspelled. i clicked out and went directly to the web page. There were no updates available at that time.

Bottom line, don't be lazy about keeping your computer up to date and use some common everyday common sense.

WannaCry or Wanacryptor 2.0 is  a malicious software made to block the access to your computer. If it gets installed the procedure to encrypt your data and sending the hacker the encryption code is a automatic procedure. Once you are locked out, it asks for a ransom or a amount of money to be paid to get access to your computer. (OFC a large amount) We can't assure that they will return access to your PC once the ransom is paid.

So guys for everyone who uses a Windows operating system, please take the measures to safeguard your valuable information as this was mainly targeted on WIndows users, but Apple users also take care :)

  • Update your OS (Windows said that security updates were made).
  • Update your Antivirus and make sure it's ON.
  • Do not click on anonymous emails sent to you, and download attachments with them.
  • Do not click on random links, downloads unknown Apps, or download Cracks/Patches for some apps.
  • If you want to access some website use the original links, type it on the URL bar, do not press on links that says it will take you to the specific website (can be in the name of a very famous one) or tells you that you will get alot of money etc.
  • And backup your most valuable information to Cloud storage like Google Drive, Dropbox etc... or  backup to a external Hard disk or Pen drives.
  • This can help you save you information.

This has infected to over 250,000 computers and spread among 150 countries world wide including Russia, America, England, France etc.

Please spread the message, Thanks :)

If your computer get infected even after the above advices, please don't pay the ransom. The group behind this ransom ware don't get the information about who paid ransom and who paid not. Paying ransom will just cause double damage. :D

Of course, it will only encourage the hackers to infect more computers to get more money.

True. Ransom should not be paid at all. Instead i'll change hard disk and ram chips. Viola! new computer. All thanks to the hacker guy who helped me to make a new computer when my parents refused to make one.

 Just an example. We should always think the glass is half full and not half empty

Good to hear that it hasn't spread to Win7 and up (at least that's what I've heard..) Fingers crossed, all the data and confidential files in the world remain safe and sound

The buisness is actually more evil than most people realize. Do you know who makes the latest viruses and malware? It's the antivirus companies! They create a virus and then launch an antivirus against it. The reason it's so difficult to suppress stuff like Wannacry is because the best brains in the industry are behind it. Of course, it might be an overstatement to say that these companies are actually asking for ransom but there is no doubt that they had a hand in its creation.

I haven't used a virus scanner in years, those programs are all an expensive joke.

The whole system behind it is corrupt like Mr.Beaku said. Aside from terminating their own extreme viruses; all they do is eat up ram and clear some files that lazy noobs wouldn't want to search for themselves. It's actually very simple for you to do the same tasks manually that virus scanners do on your pc. All viruses can be found in the system directory and can be terminated from there. Various virusscanners don't even terminate the whole virus by itself.. or require an update to do so lol.

Virus scanners are for people who don't care about their internet safety and browse whatever the hell comes up their mind, and think that everything will be okay aslong as there is a virus scanner running, the Apple-minded people among Windows.

EDIT: besides, Windows has it's own pretty good built-in virus scanner.
