Remove Striker's Laser

Recommended Posts

Shaft was given a laser because it was far too powerful, and could snipe tanks without giving away its position. It could just cause your tank to explode, and you would have no idea where it came from and no warning on how to avoid it next time. Railgun does not have this. Instead, it has a warm-up light, and a streak of plasma (yes, plasma, that is what real naval railguns have streaking behind them).

Striker does not need a Laser for any of these reasons. It doesn't surprise enemy tanks, they have to be in line-of-sight for a good 3 seconds. It can't hide the laser and bring it onto the enemy at last moment, you need to have it on the enemy tank for a good while. It does not need the laser.

Instead, it should have a locking light, similar to railgun's warm-up light. This light would be a different color from Railgun's, to avoid confusion. It would light up whenever you held down the space bar, just like the current laser. It would give away your position if you hid in the bushes, but they can't tell that they are being locked if they aren't facing towards you. This might seem OP, but when you consider that a shaft that hides it laser gives even less warning, and that the enemy tank has to be in sight for 4.5 seconds for locking and launch, you realize that it isn't that bad.

When you use it, the user would see a crosshair/aiming device in front of his turret, like the mouse control aiming device (the green parentheses-like things on the side of the laser of this shaft) or the red crosshair, instead of a laser so he could aim.  Alternatively, there could be a laser that only he could see.hjsYTua.pngThis would make striker a much more balanced and popular turret, on par with Shaft and Railgun in its long-range abilities. Striker doesn't need a laser. And what tank would let a laser be on it for 3.5 seconds, when it might be a shaft which could destroy it in one second? Currently,  striker is inferior to Shaft. Its only advantage is that it is mobile while locking.

Striker's laser should be replaced by a "locking" light like railgun's warm up light and a crosshair that only the user can see.

Declined

I spoke with Hazel about this and he says that according to the actual statistics, Striker (with the current settings) is one of the most powerful weapons in the game. The reason it seems weak is because the absolute majority of players don't know how to use it, and therefore think it is weak.

One thing I can tell you right away is that the lock-on feature is a secondary mode of fire and is only meant to be used in very specific situations, e.g. when you see a Mammoth driving across an empty area (like the middle of Serpuhov) and he has no way to hide from your rockets or break line of sight.

I personally agree with you and I think that Striker's laser is completely unnecessary and ruins the lock-on firing mode, but if the lead game dev says it's OP, then he probably has a point...  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Gotta agree with parts of what Maf said there. At low ranks, I've only ever come across 2 talented Strikers and probably about 30 literal mults. Keep in mind that some of those were also alt accounts. They always use their laser instead of firing in salvos. The Striker laser is required but is super annoying as it is similar to Shaft and when you're not really focusing, it's hard to tell the difference.

But team blue has no idea whether red laser is shaft or stryker so I think the laser color must be changed please.

By the way Hazel did say that he might change the laser to add a difference or even remove Shaft's laser completely and give it a different disadvantage instead, so there's definitely hope for that idea.

I hope they do that to Shaft.

- Remove "laser"

- Projectile flies like Striker's but straight.and faster.

- No charge only the aim focusing if people want to use the scope.

- Half damage

- Same damage for arcade mode

- Faster reloads.

EDIT:

- The smoke from the projectile will tell others where the shot came from. (That will prevent camping)

Shafts are hard to kill. Nuff said. I get excited when I use my Shaft in the bushes where I hope nobody can see me about to wreck them with it. My Shaft is long.

That may be interesting. I hope Shaft doesn't become too OP though.
