Story of a Legend

Part 1

My heart was pounding in my chest.

I could hear the sound of gunfire of high military shell guns called 'Thunders' by the resistance and machine gun turrets called 'Vulcans' outside my house. My mother was clutching my sister, eyes wide in fear as the light of a sniper-like turret hovered over our window. Only a few days ago had Kungur heard of a new world war. And a new technology. Tanks.

Railgun, a large turret that sends a bolt of mayhem causing death and destruction in its path. Thunder, shell like guns that can send out frags to other victims. Shaft, sniper turret that can one shot many tanks and well, people. That was just a few of them.

I whispered to my mother "We have to go. NOW." I pointed to the backdoor to escape the hell that was around us. We all got on our hands and feet and crawled with the deafening sound of warfare above us, seeming like they would come smashing through my whole house and kill, or yet worse, capture us. "Ok, on the count of three, we will rush out of this hellhole, and take refuge in the forest a few kilometers from here. Understood?" My younger sister nodded with a determined spirit, yet my mother was almost in tears in leaving our house. Possibly forever.

"One. Two. THREE!!" I shouted on the top of my lungs, while threw open the door and let the rest of my family out.

We ran for what felt like months, which was just about 10 minutes, when we heard the soft mechanical whir of the infamous sniper. "RUN!!!", I shouted knowing my life was on the line, as well as the family I only know. My sister made it first into the forest and my mother just second, but I was still trailing behind about 200 meteres. I'm not going to make it, I thought, but still not giving up. I could feel the heat of the aiming laser creeping up on me, inches from hitting their target. Suddenly, I heard a boom to my left, when I was saying my final prayers. I looked over at the snipers position, but it was no longer a sniper, it was a pile of metal exploded in many ways. I turned around to see...

A tank. Thunder, with a strong hull. I cowered in fear and raised my hands, begging for my life. The top hatch opened up and shouted toward me. "I am with the resistance, are you injured?" I sighed with relief and yelled "No, just shaken up. My mother and sister are in the forest hiding, can you pick them up?".

'Sure. Join me, I might have to show you how to fight too'. I reluctantly accepted but didn't like the idea of fighting, especially when he was only sixteen years old.

To be continued....

Nice start to a story! It definitely has some good tension and interesting action, although I personally would like to hear a little more background behind this war that's going on. Overall was a very entertaining read though.
