Effective Combinations in Tanki Online!

- Effective Combinations in Tanki Online -

In an average battle you see some silly combos for tanks, such as Mammoth and Hammer or Wasp and Magnum. Then there's the common Hornet-Rail, Hunter-Smoky, Mammoth-Shaft etc. But then, there's just that perfect combination, an enemy you can't seem to kill without another buddy to take him down with. Well, I'm here to tell you guys, in my opinion, what the best combos are in Tanki Online.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Categorization:

First off, I'm going to categorize and generalize ideas for such tanks, to give a simple understanding, then go more in-depth with each combination.

There are four main combination classes. Those are:

  • Attacker
  • Defender
  • Mid-fielder
  • Adaptable

All of the above are explained below:

Attacker Category

Attacker tanks are usually light hulls with short ranged turrets. They take over points in CP, take flags in CTF and are the front line tanks in TDM, or obliterate DMs with steal kills with mid ranged/long ranged guns. These guys are the most important in battles. Without them, a team can't capture any flags or control points and so on. They help you win. Try to use modules with short ranged turret protection and one medium or long ranged protection.

 Defender Category

Defenders are usually medium/heavy hull users, with short and or long ranged weapons. These guys are the ones who prevent the enemy from taking their flags or control points. They're also good to keep the base from being raided by attackers. A building with no foundation won't stand. Defenders keep you from losing. Use a module with one of each short, medium and long ranged protection.

 Mid-fielder Category

Mid-fielders are mostly medium hulls with mid ranged weapons, mainly. They stick around the middle and sides of the map. They weaken the enemies before they get to your base to take you out, take your flag or take control of a point. If you're a defender, any living attackers who get through have either used a Repair Kit or are barely alive. They keep the enemy from getting too close. Try modules with protection against medium/long ranged turrets.

 Adaptable Category

Adaptable tanks are really important in battle. They can usually be two of the three or all of them. They can attack, defend and mid-field. These guys are either light or heavy hulls paired with either a short, medium or a long-ranged gun. They can be two tankers in one, so if your team's got an open slot, no biggie. Put what ever module you think is best on these.

Combinations:

Now, let's get onto the combos:

Attacker Combos:

So, if you're planning on being the brave soul and have everyone firing at you, praying to God you get out alive, you're going to want a medium hull.

Viking or Hunter will do you good, but Viking has the higher speed and armor, so I'd prefer that. For the turret, you're going to want either Thunder, Smoky, Firebird or Railgun. Now, let's go over a couple of these in detail.

Viking - Thunder

Before going right in, with all the enemies at 100% health, you're going to want to put Thunder's splash to good use. To do this, you can hide around a corner nearby. Just peek out to take a shot at a group of them, but take out the Isidas first! Do NOT kill them! (Except the Isidas. Have a field day with those guys!) They will just re-spawn with full health and there goes all your work.

Now, when you go in to take the flag, they'll be easy to take out when they notice you, now they're spawning as you're getting away. Get a Hornet-Isida to tag along to protect you against the Snipers and Magnums! this tank is also good at Mid Fielding! Best in med to large and open maps.

Personal Rating: 9/10

Viking - Smoky

Smoky doesn't have splash damage like Thunder, but has a faster reload, turning speed and less recoil. What's more is that the damage doesn't drop off as fast with distance and criticals do full damage no matter how far your target. This means with good aim, (and patience) you can snipe with Smoky.

So, as soon as you see enemies, just open fire. Keep going, keep firing. Do not stop firing. Jut let them have it. Viking Smoky is a strong combo. If you're drugging, they'll probably hide. Keep 'em hiding with cover fire but kill those first who try to take you down. Viking-Smoky is one of the versatile tanks, good in ALL areas. Best in medium maps with some props for cover.

Personal Rating: 8/10

Defender Combos:

If you're going to be a defender, you better be ready to take on that Viking-Smoky. You're going to need a very strong combo if you want to take out the infiltrators. Here are a couple combos:

Hunter - Freeze

Freeze is the best for CTF defending. Use a Speed Boost to keep up with the light weight attackers, slow them to Mammoth speed and they're done. Easy as that. Catch them in your spray, then circle them, but don't head in front of their turret! Now, if they repair, STOP firing. Give yourself time to reload. Once their wrench goes away, use a Double Power to compensate for low ammo and kill them. This tank is also good at mid-fielding! Best in medium to small maps, with small environment.

Personal Rating: 9.5/10

Titan - Thunder

Now, this is one of the BEST combos you can get in Tanki. Get two of these guys defending you might as well give up. They're heavy and do even heavier damage. Try and keep to the back of your base. Like on Sandbox, stay along the walls. They can try to get close to make you do self-damage but will die before then. A big thing for this combo is trying to rule out that huge flaw. Do that you'll be hard to kill. If they can't get close, they have to rely on their own skill, because who uses a heavy to try and take a flag? Now, if it's CP mode, you can expect a to-the-death match. Best in all size maps with open environment.

Personal Rating: 10/10

Mid-fielder Combos:

Mid-fielders are high experience gainers. You can do so much more in battle, so if you get bored of sitting by the flag, you can just head out and take one. Let's go over a few combos.

Viking - Isida

Possibly one of the best combos to do the most in battle. Even though Isida lost its self heal, it saw a HUGE buff in damage. There's no self damage, no recoil, high turret turning speed and a hefty length of firing time. When defending, keep your team mates healed, like that Thunder-Titan. When an attacker comes, go back and forth from killing the attacker and healing the one he's got his eye on for killing.

For mid-fielding, keep mainly to healing passing team members. Keep hidden as well.

When attacking, help an attacker take over the point or flag, block enemies from shooting them and keep them from advancing, This combo is good in any size map but with close quarter environments.

Personal Rating: 8.5/10

Viking - Hammer

Very strong combo. My favorite in the game. I used this all the time on my old account. This combo is good in all areas, but mostly attacking. Hammer may be a short ranged gun, but unlike the others that do slow and gradual damage, this one does high instantaneous damage! Paired with Viking, you won't be easily killed.

When attacking, try and use it's pellet spread to hit multiple enemies at once. Isidas won't know who to heal first! Make sure to kill them while they scramble to keep their buddies from going below 50% health. snag their flag and get going!

For defending, just spam the attackers with your shots. Five if you got the alteration.

Now, Hammer is a faster reloading version of Railgun, but has a clip and lacks infinite range. This means you can do what a Railgun does but x2 faster. Enemies are hit with a huge punch of impact force and 25% to over 50% of their health is gone in one shot. This makes it great at mid-fielding, to blow off an attacker's legs and leave him crawling.

Personal Rating: 10/10

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

And there you have it: six of the best combos you can get in Tanki Online!

Well, in my opinion at least

Edits:-

1. Standardized font to 'Trebuchet MS', size 14.

2. Please capitalize words like 'Speed Boost', 'Double Power' and 'Repair Kit' because they're proper nouns.

3. Also, make sure you throw in a bit of formatting in your article to make it easier to read and look professional, because I looked at this yesterday and felt no motivation to start reading. Furthermore, a heading in the start of your article will help the reader know what he/she is expecting.

4. Removed spoilers; you don't actually need spoilers for those little paragraphs, they actually make the article look bad.

5. Changed topic name from 'Respect-Demanding Combinations...' to 'Effective Combinations...'

6. Good on grammar and spellings, but you should definitely proofread your articles at least once; some typos corrected.

7. Changed 'versatiles' to 'adaptable'.

Feedback:-

Don't be discouraged by the number of edits I have made and written above. You can make your articles better by:

  • Formatting - applying different styles and colors for headings, sub-headings, important information etc.
  • Proofreading - making sure there's no grammatical or typo-based mistakes.

Overall, nice article, thought it seems to be heavily biased on Viking. Also, a Thunder-Titan is a burden on your team if it's defending in high ranked battles (because Smoky beats it with faster reload and, an attacker can just time his/her run, grab the flag and escape even before a Thunder makes it third shot; plus, there's a heck lotta Thunder protections).

Perhaps a bit Viking biased, but overall, good article. Also, was there supposed to be an adaptable section?

Honestly, you can't tell a thunder not to kill anyone, the reason that thunder is such a great weapon to have is it's high damage per shot, decent reload, and splash damage.

The only problem with it is the fact that there are too many players with thunder protection modules.

But even with this fact, they could just put on Double Damage, and those protections aren't much of a problem anymore.

I used Viking because at M2 it's got the high armor and speed, better so than hunter or Dictator. Stats are the same for armor at M3...or maybe they finally changed that

Now that I have completely read it, why did you say that isida and hammer make good midfielding turrets? And thunder and smoky make great attacking turrets?

That sure doesn't make any sense

Do you like nothing but Viking ?

I love Hornet too. I'm currently waiting for my 6/10 upgrade to finish, then I'll have more than enough for my 7/10. I'll probably be 10/10 halfway through Captain (M3 Hornet)

Funny part is that this combo used to be by far the worst combination in the game prebalance. Hunter was awfully slow with negligible armour and no beneficial features whereas Freeze was scarily under-powered. If anyone dared use Freeze to defend, they'd use Titan or Viking. Nowadays, since the Hunter+Freeze buff, they're practically the most OP combo for defence.

I know right? But I usually kill em.

If I come head on, of course I start to attack them, but I speed on by, but staying within range to keep my beam going, as I keep my aim on them. Form there, it's praying I did it right to kill them xD

well excuse me sir, :)

do you like nothing but Viking ? <_<

well in tanki online there's nothing like " Best Combo " everything depends on your skills and drugging level.

anyway nice writing I learned a lot of grammar types here ;)

Viking is best for its health and speed. It's close brother, Hunter, does have slightly faster acceleration, but all tanks only take a couple seconds to get to top speed, so that's not a real factor for me. Although, Viking's pushing power is trash.

Also I know there is no absolute best combo. Each combo has its advantages and weaknesses. Titan Smoky, at M2 is not a combo to be messed with. Viking + anything (Except Freeze o.O) can get lost. now, although that's true, capping flags with such a slow tank isn't exactly easy. Plus, the fact that M1 Titan already has over 2,700 HP, and with how cheap and early you can get it, the Keeper kit isn't exactly easy to kill.

Wrong, I can take down an m2 titan and smoky. I have twins with the alteration ;)

Isida hornet is also powerful...with my 27 FPS average I still get top of the team most battles I do with at least a 3 K/D with Lt Generals.

SMART use of supplies helps, not mashing 2 3 and 4 each spawn, then spamming the 1 key every time I attack an opponent

Can't you just lower the graphics and get the smooth 60 FPS like me?  :P

That's true. The medium drugging is the best drugging - gain the best benefit with the least use, while on other hand some don't even drug in drug battles and regret saying "noobs druggers" every time though they must have some supplies which they could use if they just don't use them, which is a bad habit. If drugging battles are legit, then drugging is legit too. (#hate newbies who buy+drug to replace the required skill)

I already have all the options off...cruddiest graphics.

My laptop is crap. So much for the latest model of the HP Notebook -_-
