Problem with spawn killing - how can it be prevented?

Truthfully (though shamed to admit it) I spawn kill way to much . although in my defense being a flag runner with Xp is pretty tough when I've got half dozen Vikings and Hornets spawning around me . so I typically smash up a 2-3 combo and go to town on the spawning enemy's while trying to run away . though I'd almost say make just spawned tanks unable to be killed for 3 seconds after spawning but also make them not able to shoot during that 3 seconds

I think the problem of spawn-camping will only get better, not worse. The new iterations of current maps on test server have more pronounced spawning areas with barricades around them. I really look forward to those changes.

Remove or nerf shaft or make shaft protection very cheap. Even without double damage, shaft can still one shot light and medium hulls without double armour.

That's the whole point of Shaft.  You give up all maneuvreability, and a large amount of situational awareness for it.

Spawn killing is just a natural result of gross imbalance in battles.   Several changes could be useful in addressing the problem:

 

1.  Can only join the leading team when it is short a player, not when there are equal numbers.

2.  Keep spawning tanks invisible until they can shoot.

3.  End or somehow nerf the ability to give overdrive to team-mates.

4.  Narrow the rank range within battles when there are enough players online.

5.  Restore the ability to create battles.  Choosing your map lets you set tactical conditions that avoid mismatches.

6.  Have the AI set to ensure spawning location is not within a certain distance of say 3 enemy tanks.

I proposed #1 about a year ago. Some people complained they would have to wait to join the team they liked... D'uh!

 

4.  yes... but... Devs seem resistant.  They seem to think having 10 vs 10 ALL THE TIME is more important than level fairness.

 

They need more spawn-points, especially on those larger maps where it would be easy to implement.

Can't recall the last time I spawned near the red flag in Kunger - if ever. behind that building would be a decent place.

Blue Kunger - the flag area seems to be a magnet for killing ground. System seems to sense multiple enemies there waiting, and places you exactly there.

I wonder how many times I have respawned in the exact same spawn point time after time with the enemy right on my doorstep. Especially when there are other spawn points that aren't covered. Otherwise I seldom spawn in the same place.
