disagree / dislike button for forum

Recommended Posts

Declined

Looks like you weren't here two years ago, so for your information, we actually used to have an upvote/downvote system on posts, but that was later replaced with a single "Like This" button. The reason for this change was that downvotes were often used by players to troll others and mass-dislike their posts from multiple accounts, while in case of news topics players simply followed others and downvoted the topic without explaining why they dislike the update.

Therefore the downvote button was removed to improve feedback. Nowadays if you dislike or disagree with something - post in the topic and provide constructive criticism, explaining why you dislike it so that the topic starter (or developers) will know how to improve.

Its highly unlikely to be abused by players with their accounts which has to be at-least warrant officer, I mean its not like they can give a like or dislike from recruit.(if you know what I mean)

I hate how it was abused by players because the down-vote button was a good way of expressing criticism/disagreement. With only a "Like This" button it seems like forced positivity but whatever. Doesn't seem like the down-vote will come back.

fixed*

Just because you "fixed" it doesn't mean that you are correct.

Dislike buttons will always be abused, it's better to just not add it.

By the way, if you edit my quote, I'll just assume that you didn't even read my post, or are just trolling.

Hmmm maybe the button could come back if you needed to add a reason for dislike before the post is accepted?

Just seems a very one sided system

Maybe take away the like button too as that could be equally abused without any explanations

Can you explain how?

We don't need that anymore.

As Maf said, please express why do you dislike the post and how would you improve it by simply quoting it. If you like what other has said, just 'Like This' and you also can express why do you like it and suggest changes. If you don't care but dislike the post, no more buttons for careless forumers.

Doesn't change the fact that it reduces the quality of feedback developers get from update topics, since players used to just leave a dislike instead of explaining what exactly they don't agree with. A dislike gives devs no useful info regarding how to improve.

they need to remove the like button from mr. cedric's announcement posts because plenty of trollers who don't play the game press like for the dumb updates.

this should be replaced by a poll asking "do you like this update? do you think it improves gameplay?" and we should be free to write yes or no, instead of them getting incorrect impressions that their updates are going well with the community.

those who pressed 'like' should click 'yes', and remaining should click 'no'

The like button is fine as it is <_<

it was noob. It was removed cause of the negativity in forum and especially after Semyon's post got more than 3 times dislikes than likes when TO announced discounts 10% less on Birthdays

The current "Like this" button must remain as it is, due to there's no reason to put down something we do not like even more. I meant, I can't imagine a post about an update with 50 dislikes and 0 likes.

If "dislikes" needs to be justified then surely "likes" should be justified. Define exactly what it is that one either likes or dislikes especially as replies can cover several different topics or different aspects of a single topic.

There could easily be situations where 3 items are announced in the same thread with people responding "like" to just one of the items. The organisers could then use the stats to claim that ALL items were "liked" and therefore any strategy based upon that could be wrong.

Number of likes isn't really a problem. If a player likes an update then all is good - devs don't need any more feedback. It's when an update is disliked, that's when detailed feedback is most important.

MAF - comments on this. How do the devs know what is liked in this common scenario?

eg announcement that shaft damage is increased 200%, shop item costs are tripled and supplies are limited to 1 per user.  - having a shaft and not buying I would vote like for the shaft increase knowing that the other two changes are bad for other players. The Devs would claim that this is a success due to like being pressed.  You get my meaning?

A dislike button solely for the attention seekers in the "Real Photo" topic wouldn't go amiss.

I would want to know why someone disliked a post of mine. If they disagreed with the content, I would prefer it if they actually explained their issues to me by replying with a comment, rather than simply leaving a dislike.
