Tis' why we homeschool...   :P

Seriously though, i am allowed 2 hours a week on computer games. I usually spend that time doing worthwhile stuff, like my Moderator Job at Chess.com (Yes, I am actually a Moderator, but I need a place where I don't have to speak diplomatically every second so I come here :P ) or Admining the Christian Homeschool Newspaper which has 3 writers and 2x more stuff than here xD   Both take up loads of time, but I find them worthwhile + its doing something with my time.

You reach Legend, with 1500 hours of playing time. OR you use those 1500 hours to master the violin. Which goes on your Resume? Your online 'friends' may gape and admire you, but what happens when you drift away from that game? What do you have to show for it? Even if you drift away from the violin, you still have that Grade 7 Certificate. And better eye-hand coordination.

Play for an hour or so a week. Thats fine. Play 10 hours a week? Get a life. Go outside.

I'm going to post a video here later when i get around to it. its worth watching.

You can't quantify everything by admiration of people. We play games because we like it, not because we want certificate for it and make people admire it, we just want to play it and that's it. Constant work related activities make you tired and you need some entertainment from time to time. It is same as watching movies, or eating fancy food, or spending time with one you care about, or staring at the stars, or enjoying the natural beauty, you don't get anything out of it, certainly not a certificate. But it make you want to live your life, it gives you energy to work on your knowledge work etc. It give you feeling that can't be quantified by certificate.

Of course, like all of those, games must be played in balance and made sure it is bot hindering in your everyday life, but that applies on anything not just games. Even studying for long time is harmful and you need some time here and there.

You gonna hate me for calling your admin immature :P?

Nah, but we shouldn't be calling anyone immature and even if the person was, still it is better not to point it out to the other, a word of advice only. :)

Now, let's not go off-topic. ^^

Playing video games is not a sign of immaturity. The immaturity comes in when it takes over you life.

Shirking responsibilities,

breaking promises,

ignoring real life friends,

wishing you were home playing video games instead of having quality time with family,

losing sleep,

skipping meals

spending the rent/grocery/bill money for upgrades so you can be more competitive in the games

quality of work or grades declining because you're more focused on the gaming world than the tasks at hand

you've become homebound or a recluse because of games, games games and more games

amnesia....forgetting where the "off" button is.

These are signs of an addiction right up there with alcohol and drug abuse. It controls you, you do not control it.

Gaming addiction has become so widespread, there's Gamers Anonymous with it's own 12-step program.

I think it starts with the immaturity to recognize the problem is budding so it can be snipped off before it blooms. Once it blooms, it becomes an uncontrollable vine that intertwines you and makes you a prisoner. Here's something to ponder: The digital matrix is the vine.

Those are signs of a loser XD but nowadays they are normal. I don't know why i just don't care about video games I'd rather go outside

If video games are an act of immaturity and represent only kids, then I guess I can give a 5 year old GTA as a birthday present, or show some 10 year old how to get the best kills in assassins creed. Video games are for both kids and adults.

Benefits of playing video games:

- Faster hand eye coordination

-  Better at follow instructions as each game has its own different set of rules, and a gamer can quickly master it in minutes, and switch to different games using different controls to move characters. You know what I call that? I call it a genius.

- Less stress. Video games are a good way to escape the real world.

- Better sportsmanship. Yes there are noobs in every game that just scream at you (including in Tanki) but how many times have you heard people say gg in a game. Even if they lose, or win doesn't go to their head.

- Sociable. Many people think just cause you socialise with random people, you can't socialise and have no social life. WRONG!! It just means you can make new friends from across the world and interact since you already share the same passion. People forget when on video games the person on the other side, is still a person.

- Also, video games have hard puzzles. Like have you played Zelda Breath of the wild? The shrines are impossible. But once you figure it out you're a genius. Video games tell you what to do, but almost never give you any clues on how to get. You have to figure that on your own.

I had not thought about how many benefits could bring a videogame, it's nice to know that. I hope to change some opposite thoughts about this :P.

I call it re******. People get addicted to video games and end up in the street. No how come kids yell at their parents NO I WONT GET OFF MY XBOX when mom &I dad call you to eat?

"Friends" online friend are not friends. You are not really "socializing". Same with "social" media

Try to solve this 2k piece puzzle I have

I'll give you a harder puzzle than a dam video game. Life.

Faster hand eye coordination? Go play baseball, or a sport that actually requires hand eye, cause everyone can play video games.

It saddens me when I see 13 and under kids playing video games that kill people, and animals (such a GTA). When little kids are given a killing game, they take this game to real life, hitting people with swords, shooting others. Violence is the #1 problem on this earth, and this is not helping.

Oh, like becoming near sighted early? Yes. Your eyes are close to the screen, and your eyes adapt to how close you usually are, then you have to get glasses Edited by Hate

Hey, it would be nice if you read all the posts above :).

We are obviously against the vices related with the videogames, but playing them twice or three times (my case for example) is harmless.

Playing them has its benefits but it doesn't mean that we will be the 24 hours playing with the intention of getting these benefits.

Here you are, on the T.O. forum, bashing on gamers with your highly generalized feelgood nonsense.

That just tells us that the only video game you ever played was Tanki

Lol. Haven't chuckled this much since I last visited Tumblr, when it was trying to attack 4chan.

Immaturity simply means acting in such a way that is unfitting for the person in question's age. If you're a kid and you play games, that's perfectly normal. Even if you're much older than that, unwinding with a half hour or so of gaming is fine, so long as you don't get so worked up about it. In the meantime, here you are, the responsible "adult", arguing with a supposed "kid" on a gaming forum about the horrifying satanic influences of games.

Now it's normal to see 5 year olds with phones, always watching something. Next generation should be called generation (...)

I have to agree on that one though, I see kids making selfies and everything. When I was young I used to go out with a lot of other kids and hit people with wooden swords and stuff in the forest and building fortresses. The war was on until parents started to complain.

Hhhh?

Is this the guilt of these children?

Do they buy their own phones and watch everything?

I've never seen a 5 year old with a phone. It's 13 and 14 year olds that have their phones. And don't buy into that stereotype otherwise you're becoming the last word in your sentence. I'm a teenager. Yes, a lot of my classmates spend hours on insta or twitter. You know how much I spend? I have social media only on PC, and never use my phone longer than 2 minutes in a row. Insta and twitter and all that, come online too see if I got any new likes every couple of weeks when I'm really bored, or see if my classmates posted anything new. I don't use it longer that 5 minutes at a time. As for twitter I haven't been on that for months. So boring. And I know what you're thinking. And no I'm not one of those geeks or nerds, I'm far from it. I'm also not one of those popular fools, who everybody hates either. I'm just an average guy. So please don't categorise teenagers as something they're not. And trust me, 5 year olds don't have phones. If they do it's not called anti-social it's called bad parenting. And this generation is becoming depressed, getting anxiety and all that. We're the ones getting pushed around, so give us a break. We're not the ones making wars in different countries or slaughtering animals. A lot of us hate the world which is why we're always moody. Nobody seems to understand. So again, please don't stereotype.

Profanity is real mature of you to say. ;)

Now, I never brought that up. Actually, that isn't even related to the original topic, even if I agree with you on that point. Again, what I said was that it's perfectly fine for kids to want entertainment - not their fault they want to have fun, deal with it. Yes, it's unfortunate that electronic devices have taken over from the good old outdoors, but this is modern life. Advertisements are everywhere, electronics are everywhere.

Back to the point I first brought up, which you've ever so conveniently ignored and will undoubtedly continue to ignore. The definition of immaturity, search it up in any sort of dictionary if you want, is to act in such a way that does not align with your age. If you are a child, it should be expected of you to want fun, fun, fun. No problem - be a kid. Of course, as you get older, you take on more responsibilities, which is where the immaturity lies. If you ignore those responsibilities in favour of gaming, then you are immature. This was actually stated multiple times on the first page of this very thread. Thing is, this is an extreme side effect of gaming and is not representative of all gamers. You're stereotyping.

Now, for your first argument made on this thread, apart from that "losers XD" post you made. I get the feeling that you mean to say video games are useless. That is absolutely correct, bravo for spotting that. How could you have possibly known that something made purely to entertain would not have any positive long-lasting effects? You should become a detective.

Sarcasm aside, of course video games are useless in the long run. But as is any other form of entertainment, including pillow fights, casual outdoor play, TVs, fictional books, etc. It is designed to entertain. And as I stressed earlier, of course it becomes a hindrance when you play obsessively, but so too does anything else when you let it take over your life.

This seems to be your final arguing point (from the time I'm making this post, anyway) until you started deviating into the usual mindless ranting. First off, it is indeed unfortunate to find extremely gullible young kids to be playing games like GTA, CoD, BF1, and so on and so forth. I agree with you on that point. However, the debate for video game violence = real world violence is not over, and for every psychologist with a strong "pro" argument, there's a psychologist with an equally strong "anti" argument. Influential organizations like Harvard and the APA agree on this matter - that there is no agreement. While I personally do not believe in this so-called "link", I have no proof (proof that will completely change the tide of the battle, I mean to say), and neither do you.

There is, however, one thing I completely agree with you on, and that is nearsightedness. I used to have perfect 20/20 vision until I started obsessively, and keep in mind the word I'm using, using and playing on computers. I was prescribed glasses around 2010 and still need them now if I want to see anything in clear detail for more than a couple metres. However, once I learned of the cause, I started slowing down on electronic use. Sure enough, the rate of deterioration for my eyes has slowed down dramatically, and even stopped/reversed for some periods of time.
